Why you should treat women better

Can I ask some question,

First of all, off-topic example I do often ask myself am I being racist in subtle ways with dealing with a POC for example without even realizing it? I think it’s healthy to ask such questions,

Second point, so many people in this thread are in complete denial that they ever say or do anything bad/negative to someone of the opposite sex,

Imho though if you were to ask me what makes a ‘good’ person, well to me someone that is so convinced of their moral righteousness, well the problem with that is that if one person is convinced they are ‘right’ and anyone else is ‘dangerous’ or a ‘threat’, well this is how wars tend to start.

To me the measure of a good person therefore, is not someone that boasts about how well and good they treat women or whoever, a good person to me is someone with awareness that throughout their lives, they may hurt people in ways that they don’t even realize, so it’s a good thing to hear that Chris Metzen and the others high up at Blizzard have made a public apology for what has happened, and I have heard they are taking measures like ‘listening sessions’ to improve workplace culture.

To make it clear, I am not saying any individual person is responsible for any of this, but I’ll be honest and call it like it is, twenty years ago, when it came to things like gaming, it was very much seen as a ‘boys thing’ from what I remember you might see the odd nerdy chick in the corner watching and observing what was going in the D and D tabletop game or whatever but in my opinion girls were a rare sight, I think due to the popularity of wow and other mmos, girls in gaming has become more common, but while I don’t think any individual male is responsible for toxic culture/attitudes towards women, the fact of the matter is that a lot of women have been coming into what was once traditionally a very masculine environment, so what we need to do is to call that out, and make sure we do better to say to the men that think it’s okay to make sexist comments and whatnot towards women in wow that this is no longer acceptable behavior, I am not saying to go overboard with political correctness, but it’s the little things that some men in wow do like joining guild and if you pestering girls for sexual attention and whatnot, well we need to say no, that kind of behavior is no longer okay,

Does that make sense?

Actually not all gamers are against women game developers just a very small very vocal percentage of them.

In fact I believe part of the reason female protagonists in video games seem a bit “off” compared to male protagonists is the fact they were written by men.

So I would be more than happy to see more female game developers and women in gaming companies.

Does the answer to “why you should treat women better” really require multiple paragraphs? It should be self-evident, just don’t be a selfish ***hole, to anyone, ever, and the world would be a much better place. Unfortunately humans are largely incapable of not behaving in their own interest the majority of the team, and some people pathologically so.

  1. If you have to ask, the answer is resoundingly YES. Stop being a racist. There is nothing subtle about it. In addition, the term POC is, in and of itself racist to use as it steals a persons racial identity/pride in favor of a term that gasp makes it easier for white people to point out a vast swathe of people are not white.

STOP. BEING. A. RACIST. AND. JUDGING. PEOPLE. FOR. THEIR. SKIN. COLOR.

Everything else you say is ridiculously invalid because you are a racist.

Being racist though isn’t just about judging people for the color of their skin,

The problem though is if you go down the path of complete colorblindness, that sounds good in theory, but in practice that often can come with dismissal of the lived experiences of POC, and also makes you blind to the racial inequalities that POC suffer, not to mention the histories of violence and deny uncomfortable cultural differences, you know what I’m saying?

So on an individual level, yes, I try and be color blind and treat all people as just people, but if I was to look at the broader social picture, I mean let’s be honest, while I am not saying it’s impossible, it’s still much harder for a POC household to make the same amount of wealth compared to white households lets be honest.

Anyway that’s all off-topic but still important. This topic is about the mistreatment of women and how we all need to do much better then what we have been the past few years that’s all I’m saying.

Yes. Yes it is. Racism is literally about looking at someone’s skin color and immediately making a judgement about that particular individual without any thought to their character, merit, individual ability, or lived experiences.

Anything else you say is:

A) Ancillary to that
B) Invalid because you are an admitted and avowed racist.

What is the point of this thread?

I know what you’re saying but I don’t think that’s racism. I think that’s people generally not giving a damn about other people’s cultural background, personal or family history or anything else as long as they’re strangers. I don’t think it’s that people e.g. don’t care about black people and their background and history. I think it’s that people don’t care about strangers.

Now if you don’t care about somebody’s background or history because of their skin color or ethnicity, that’s different.

You can’t generalize any group. There will always be people ahead of or below the curve in how they act.

I think so as well.

This bears repeating…

Why are people in denial that there is an issue with toxic attitudes towards women in gaming culture?

Why are you displaying a toxic misandrist attitude by creating this thread?

The correct thing to do is to start having women give unwanted attention and sexual harass men so they know what it feels like to be objectified! :rage:

For crying out loud,

It wasn’t a man that got his explicit pics spread around the place and whatnot.

Ok… and? That pertains to me how? That makes me a racist because I have a dangly part between my legs how?

I don’t think anyone in this thread is understanding a word I am saying…

This isn’t about you as individual people, this is about the community collectively.

You’re not the first to say it… We understand, we’re just tired of the rhetoric in a game forum. Take this to Twitter and Reddit…

WE???

Sorry, buddy. Maybe YOU. But not ME. Not “we.”
