Why WoW Isn't Fun for Me Anymore

Well apparently not since people are engaging and replying to this one.

You spend too much time on the forums, so you keep seeing repeat threads assuming everyone else is in the same boat. For people who dont frequent the forums as often as you, this is possibly the first time they are seeing a post like this.

Spend less time on the forums, and the topics will seem more fresh.

also the search function is a trap. everytime i use it to consolidate a subject i end up necroing something months old

i embrace multiple posts of the same subject now. because i understand not wanting to use that search function.

Yeah the story sucks especially if youā€™re a Horde player but thankfully the gameplay is still fun so I just ignore the worthless story and play BGs and once ranked opens up Blitz.

Iā€™m enjoying this expansion. However, I will say that playing with orphans as my Undead Warlock was super lameā€¦it just pulls you out of the gameā€™s world. I mean why do we have different factions and races at this point?

Play another game bye

People need to buy a diary for this sort of stuff.

Its fake news? So you could pvp alliance in Shatt? Or Dalaran? Hmmmā€¦ because in vanilla you could pvp alliance everywhere.

Again, faction difference hasnt been a thing in 20 years. Get over it bud sorry for it to have taken so long for you to notice.

The horde/alliance split and multiple storylines by faction was a core part of the value proposition of WoW for ages. That they removed it and made one story is a big loss to the game and less content no matter how you feel about faction conflict or the plot.

Iā€™m not even someone who was into the whole faction identity and such, but it was nice to be able to play through two different styles of stories with different characters being developed each expansion. Itā€™s different flavors of the same game. It was like that from vanilla ā†’ BFA. Shadowlands at least still had different sub-stories for each covenant so you got a little bit of a different story depending on which you chose to follow. This was part of what made it feel like an MMO, that the faction you chose to follow gave you different stories, different perspectives, etc.

Itā€™s just lazier storytelling now and less content.

Iā€™d be curious to see how many people that really donā€™t like the faction conflict (which is demonstrably heavily alliance) REALLY donā€™t like Trump IRL.

Because in America, yā€™all really REALLY like the faction conflict. All you need to do is say one word and itā€™s Gotcha game mob pileon.

Some could argue that WoW IS the theme park.

This is the exact thing. Cultures sort themselves, in real life AND in fantasy/fiction. Thereā€™s been a bad/false line of thinking (that is fifteen years old) that you can dispense with that, but then everyone just sorts themselves into the disparate cultures.

They can get along, but thereā€™s always social groupings.

I think itā€™s funny that Azeroth needs to go to bland, homogenous towns like we do on Earth in order to be ā€œpost national.ā€

Gameplay and collection wise, I want to bring my Warband to get the stuff. IC wise, my Horde characters donā€™t care about ANY of this stuff. I canā€™t even head canon my way through it, my internal ability to RP is just caput.

I for one am glad the faction war is done.

My sophisticated blood elven mage was tired of frequenting mud and :poop: :hut: and literal cesspools. Especially after we were all going to end up banding together to stop world-ending threat #? by the end of every expansion anyways.

You know both Thrall came backā€¦ with reinforcements, right?

As a long time player and someone that played classic WoW, I find this thread very misleading. The only thing specific was some questing that you did while levelling. There were never any faction dungeons or raids, and if they were, they would make you appear as the other faction.

Hereā€™s what it actually did:

-Force people to have a character on both factions at max level to see everything
-Split the players on a server such that you could only play with one faction, leading to some servers being mostly alliance or horde, which also destroyed any sense of world PvP
-Caused one faction to have such dominate racials that it led to one side, horde, becoming so dominant that people began to re-roll to be horde because there were more players with more skill as horde.
-No faction could ever truly gain. Every alliance win was met with a horde win, and back and forth. Every time a horde leader died, someone from alliance had to die. Any time an alliance city captured, a horde one also captured. It had zero creativity.

For all these reason, it was removed, because it wasnā€™t worth the specifici levelling content that only lasted for a bith each expansion.

I believe Jaina said it best, ā€œJust walk awayā€.

You know every time i see these ā€œwhy wow isnā€™t fun anymoreā€ posts. i keep thinking itā€™s the same person just repeating the same posts on different alts expecting people to care.

Probably true since I donā€™t use any other social media platforms. I like to browse the forums before I go to bed. Oh well.

I agree with some of this to be honest.

The Horde/Alliance fighting ā€“ I am ok with them working together against a bigger villain. I came back as well and here are some of the things that I think have turned me off modern WoW (from dragon flight onwards):

  1. Spoon fed and linear quests. The system shows you exactly what to do and where to go. No more thinking about it.

  2. Clicky Clicky: It seems a large portion of the quests are just read and click things. Click the vase, read this script, click this object.

  3. So many factions, renowned, talents, currencies.

  4. Too many pruned spells that should be available and yet too many others that seem situational at best (not even sure how they managed that).

  5. Dungeons that not even dungeons. They are quick 20 mins kills that really have little design, donā€™t seem fun and just donā€™t have a ā€œdungeonā€ feel.

So far, I am in the middle of leveling 1 character, and I doubt Iā€™ll do another.

Maybe after this long Iā€™ve just become bored with the game and the direction. Iā€™ve been playing for many years but this xpac (so far) seems worse than DF.

True, it does feel super alliance heavy. Especially with a whole zone basically being an extension of a allliance-pre cursor nation.

Really?

I highly doubt what youre describing is important at all.

The main gameplay loop just feeps bad to me. Hope on a flying mount go to X coordinates, roll your face on the keyboard and repeat. Its boring.
