Why the lack of Customization?

It might be nice if they backed off a bit and leave a little room left for the void elves and maybe let the blood elves have some tiny remnant of their uniqueness that’s not stolen from them.

Is anyone actually saying that? I mean, I just think that there’s a good chance blizzard will use all the high elf junk on void elves as an excuse not to put in void options as it’s fair to say that one AR shouldn’t be too much more loved than the others. And that all of this is infringing on the uniqueness of a core race that was not designed to be neutral and kinda got a sucky set of customization earlier.

And as a reminder, that people who do that get suspended from the forums, so it’s not actually happening.

San’layn make more sense for Alliance after failing to join the horde, and the vampiric aesthetic suits the void elves far more to expand their void based kits than they’d do to expand anything for a holy/fel theme race.

Dark rangers for Horde.
San’layn for Alliance.

I mean that’s the thing, BE skin tones weren’t even a copy paste (those were the eye colors)

They simply made the VE model “load” BE skin textures.

So the question is, did they do the same for the hair colors? Maybe, all they had to do was separate the tendril into a new mesh -will they will do for the toggle- and the bangle.

We’ll know for sure when the PTR drops, but yeah, maybe it was that easy to add new colors because since they are already separating the tendrils for the toggle, they can just load BE hair color textures without even creating a new one, just like it happened with skin tones.

This implies that there’s a limited number of customizations that can be added. I don’t find that idea plausible. There is plenty of room left for Void Elves. As for Blood Elves retaining uniqueness, their customizations weren’t unique to begin with. Even as far back as Burning Crusade some of their hairstyles were the same as humans (Blood Elf females have the same hairstyle Anveena uses). To say their hair colors are unique, or their skin colors, would also be false given Humans, Dwarves, and Gnomes all existed in game before them.

I’m all for adding uniqueness to Blood Elves, on developing customizations to reflect other thematics of the race such as Dark Rangers/San’layn, Felblood Elves, or even options reflecting their new connection to the Light through the Sunwell. All of that are things you can’t see on Void/High Elves.

But you yourself said it. Blood Elves and High Elves are the same race.

I would argue it’s heavily implied by the tone of quite a few responses.

I’m not sure this will happen. For one thing, we haven’t seen this concern with parity on core races, so it shouldn’t be a concern for Allied Races.

I’ll gladly agree Blood Elves need more options, as do a lot of core races. But High Elves have existed on the Alliance, and Blizzard decided to have them use the exact same options Blood Elves had at the time, and never bothered changing them.

If anything, I’d blame Blizzard for continuing to throw High Elves at the Alliance expansion after expansion and then acting shocked players wanted to play that race.

If you are right, which is highly unlikely due to them having completely different hair textures but if you are right, you and most of the other pros have asked for copy/paste from Blood Elves so no one that side should be complaining about it because you can’t expect to get completely new things when you keep asking for things to be taken from someone else.

No, it acknowledges that fact.

As NPCs, which don’t really matter in this situation.

I do, it was a cowardly waffling on the twisting of high elves that they were going on about before adding Blood elves. They should have stuck with it and not left themselves some boring ones around for the people who couldn’t get over the high elves going horde.

Agreed, those are awesome ideas for Horde San’layn. I know some people were really interested in the vampyr Kael’thas idea. Here’s a picture as a reminder, by https://twitter.com/GaldersArt :

I’m game for Blood King Kael’thas & playable Horde San’layn.

On a very unrelated note, I really love the song “Burn” by Papa Roach. It really fits certain situations, I feel. There’s profanity, though, so sadly I can’t share it here.

The point is whether adding the “HE” options to the Void Elf model is resource intensive or not.

By all metrics, it really wasn’t. Even of they were to copy hair colors on VE textures, it wouldn’t be. You can do that in minutes.

So no one can make the argument that VE customizations have taken as much resources as any of the other AR customizations. That’s just innacurate.

I know that’s a mask, but just the shading and such makes that look kinda like it’s Kael’fish

Who cares how many resources it took other than people trying to find an excuse to keep getting more and more? It’s a great huge chunk of the Blood elf visual identity and that’s a huge give no matter how long it took them to implement

This version might look better in that case

The Blood Elves will get something in the future. It’s actually logical if you think about it, they withhold some features you haven’t access to it.

What most of you already start to forget is how long the High Elf request has been going-on. They try to fulfill this request before moving on to other races.

What gets me is that’s what they wanted and asked for so whether it took 2 minutes or 2 years it’s what they asked for so.

How many times do they have to fulfill their requests before they actually move on?

The same could be argued for Dark Rangers & Ogres for the Horde. I don’t think “They’ve been begging for so long” is a viable argument, personally.

I personally don’t care what they get myself. They have two themes now, and I simply would like to see another one on blood elves. It’s a matter of a toggle for Dark Ranger skins/red eyes, at this point.

I just want Blizzard to acknowledge that they’re going to be looking into other suggestions on here, including blood elves, who do not have a second visual theme, and where people have been wanting undead elves for a while.

They, luckily, have with one of their posts. So I’m glad they’re going to look into it eventually.

Tarrok, there’s no point arguing with you.

As long as you feel BE’s “loose” anything by VE sharing those assets, there’s no discussion to be had with you. Every argument and opinion you have is tainted by that premise that cannot be contested because that’s how you feel about it.

And if you won’t change your feelings about the issue, there’s no logical, nor rational, argument to present.

probably after they steal the aesthetic of an outdoorsy farstrider for an elf that embraces the void and has no connection to nature

I’m still 400 posts behind but you guys already got a CM-reply for it.

Can we please all agree that they should just release these golden accessories for everyone’s sake? +400 postings on likely Belf-discussion will be just absolute madness.

I do agree. In general, they should release character customization updates with every patch they release.

I’m back to reading all these postings…

This would be awesome. I just really, really hope they take requests in general seriously, now. The CM’s second response today put my mind at ease a little bit, which is good. I only mention blood elf/dark ranger/San’layn because it’s what I’m primarily interested in and play.

I hope others get what they want too. I’m one of the people who keeps saying hair style exchange would be lovely. (Granted… I don’t like hair style restrictions between ANY Race, but that’s a matter of molding or something to the model, I think.)

Because the only thalassian elf with that aesthetic represented in the game def isn’t exclusively on the Alliance or anything
