Right but we saw VEs take the Thalassian model in entirety and people complain that if only they had come from HEs they’d like void elves skin tones and all.
Then we saw non void skin tones added that allowed RP tools to do just that, losing any sense of uniqueness for Blood Elves in the process, and suddenly the last bit of visual uniqueness to complete the visuals in question was what had to happen next.
Void elves were then given an additional pass that no other race has seen, while essentially taking a theme from a Horde race that now lacks an additional theme to offset that balance, and people still describe it as nothing or want to change their name to High Elf and entropic embrace is a problem etc etc etc, while laying claim to what should be a Blood Elf exclusive Farstrider tattoos.
Any small infringement on Nightborne shouldn’t happen because it’s been shown to not end well for the Horde races visual uniqueness.
This is off topic but, to make some notes on these things:
The Nightborne we freed were primarily refugees seen as “lowborne scum” to their own oppressors. All of them? Probably not. They got a bunch of night elf assets and pretty much have the original nelf model. W/e. Life goes on. They’re also getting fixed first in their faces. Hopefully NE males do too down the road.
Do all Night elves live in trees? Probably not. There were some fancy places littered throughout Hyjal, Feralas, and other places that weren’t scrounging in the wilds. Males’ hair and posture is atrocious and they only have one face. We got night elf mages in 2010.
Does this probably count as “stolen uniqueness”? Probably. Who cares. They’re derived from the same people. Same scenario for VE/BE. Same derivative people. They split off. Similar but not the same. Should they all get different stuff? Probably.
When will blood elves be worked on? Some point in the future. Should they get more to differentiate? Sure. I’m game. Both branched off to their own color schemes. Anasterian and others had the gold/red/blue/white armor. Now BE get gold/red, while HE get white/blue. You don’t need to tell us every chance you get how much you despise what “happened to blood elves”. Quel’dorei on Alliance side are massively similar. Do they wear different things and have a different lifestyle? Probably. If they visited home, would they be seen similar? Likely. Most of them look extremely like Blood Elves, especially now that they have similar eyes and hair colors.
Please don’t take this as me interacting with you regularly. It’s not going to be a continuing trend, but I will be civil. What happened between BE/HE and NE/NB is basically the same thing. “Visual uniqueness” is still intact. Some skin colors and hair colors don’t tread on everything else blood elves are. Don’t worry, we can’t even send our void elves/high elves home.
Any High Elves on Alliance side are a rare sight few and far between, as backed by the devs, a portal keeper here or there isn’t enough to qualify the loss of visual uniqueness on the playable High Elf race which Blood Elves are, and with the implications High Elves that didn’t take the name are returning home at that.
We probably won’t agree there and will continue to not agree, but I don’t take it personally anymore than you should which I feel for some reason you do, if I reply to you it’s not me trying to cause an issue for you but you’ve said something I felt pertinent to reply to because I find it important to share feedback with Blizzard as much as you do.
So on that note I have no issue here which I would think is the most important thing anyways I would imagine despite disagreeing here we have other areas or topics we agree on
Well like this I have no issue on either and definitely think that should be worked on for NEs especially the guys faces I always thought they should have more youthful faces normally races that embody immortality or longevity look better
Amazing post!! Those are really awesome!! I would love to see more Highborne style customization on the Night Elves. Would also love to see more Night elf architecture in the style seen in Vault of the Wardens too. /support
I think the problem with Blood elf fans is that they wouldn’t be satisfied with just 1 more theme. I want there to be balance in customization between the two factions. Blood elves already have a lot of customization. Blizzard needs to tread carefully in this regard. Orcs can now look like divas, same with trolls. If Blizzard goes ahead and gives Blood elves everything their fans ask for, there will be no balance at all in customization between them and Void elves. Alliance is already the inferior faction in terms of player numbers, let us not make it inferior in terms of customization as well.
That doesn’t mean I am against Dark ranger looks, in fact I support such for Blood elves to have another theme. But there needs to be some balance.
I don’t get people saying we’re stealing from the Nightborne theme when we ask for Highborne stuff for Night Elves ?
All we’re asking for is a few fine/regal jewelry options and hairstyles. Others want certain skin tones and facial marks/tattoos, as well as male eyes to be fixed.
Blood Elves have already four flavors within the race, no matter how often people try to bend reality here. The Void Elves also start to catch up with their upcoming third playable flavor.
And they have had more customization than most of the other playable races for a very very long time. Until the recent Shadowlands customizations but this is what 14 ish years after Blood Elves came out.
People can always ask for more ofc, no harm no foul, but those who act as if they were given scraps from the get-go and then given scraps again are being ignorant to the amount of customization available to Blood Elves for so long over the much more limited customization the game had before.
To me, it’s probably why Blood Elves Shadowlands customization was considered lackluster, because they’ve had so many options available to them beforehand. If anything the fact that other races finally got more or as much in Shadowlands is a very good thing.
We already know that the most popular playable race are the Blood Elves and 99% of the time people gave the reason for ‘they look good’ as the reason they’d pick em, I’m including newer players to the game here as well.
I feel like there’s people thinking if some customization option is on one race it won’t be given to another. While that probably works for certain things like the trademark NB hand glow…
Hairstyles/Hair colors/Eye colors/Tattoos/Scars/Accessories <— these are all things that every race can have/share because it’s just like IRL everyone’s open to hair dyes/styles/eye contacts/tattoos/scars/accessories.
Nothing has been stolen at all from the Horde in general, because only Blizzard holds ownership over everything within the game. Not the players.
People complaining about things getting stolen off them need to go read the End-User Licence Agreement.
Plus, Highborne is actually apart off with the Night Elf society, considering Highborne just means an upper class Night Elf. And guess what, Night Elf have got golden eyes, and some jewellery options.
It would really be the best to make the High Elves a neutral race like the Pandaren to satisfy both sites and their demands. Blizzard tried and failed with the initial Void Elf concept. If the Void Elves don’t appear as a major race in the upcoming Turalyon storyline then they have really abandoned those characters.
As much as I would’ve liked them as their own separate playable option, just like wildhammer, it’s a lost cause at this point.
Blizzard never do something like that once they’ve made a hamfisted decision they just rectify it within its means instead of outright acknowledging they messed up and putting the effort to start from ground zero again.
I’m hoping blood elves get customization that belf fans have been requesting. One of the few things they got is gender locked, has two metal colors to pick from with one gem color.
The jewelry color doesn’t change the color of hair accessories for them either, and none if the hair accessories are optional. This contrasts greatly with draenei options, where even the old hair accessories change to match the jewelry selected.
It really makes you think maybe they should have just added hairstyles and some eye colors to void elves as opposed to the skin tones that resulted in the loss of visual uniqueness for Blood Elves.
That way HE fans wouldn’t have to do that thing where they present BEs as having some sort of huge advantage when BE fans complain about the inequity of the loss of visual uniqueness.
Oh and jewelry they could have got jewelry instead too.
Oh I am. I’m just kinda disappointed they basically gave us copypasted assets instead of new unique stuff.
HM Tauren, Nightborne and LF Draenei received new stuff. I admit these three had less customizations than Void Elves, but still… giving us some starcursed hair/eye colors, or a few more EE skins or even being able to toggle on tentacles on all of the hairstyles was something I kind of expected for this patch, not just Blood Elf hair colors.
But I’m not whining! I’m deeply grateful for these options and I’ll enjoy them on my High/Half Elves.
And I’m positive we’ll receive void customizations, just not as soon as I expected or wanted xD
No other race has had two passes the way Void Elves have benefitted in both passes costing Blood Elves all sense of uniqueness in the process.
I saw it said by posters in the patch announcements that hopefully regular patch goes back to core races and the .5 patch the other ARs as in the ones that didn’t get two passes already.
SL originally had no mention of ARs being done and core races being improved on, the core races are either lacking still, lackluster, and or saw their visual uniqueness lost like Blood Elves.
