Why the lack of Customization?

I’m curious, what do you interpret from “so no, worgen do not have tails”?

Just to be clear here - I’m not against or in favor of Worgen tails. I’m all for diversity and if Worgen players want a tail and that makes them happy, by all means give them tails. But I think we should bear in mind existing lore, and it’s been confirmed they aren’t supposed to have tails.

Maybe we can think of a scenario where Worgen having tails makes sense. Perhaps that would make devs’ job easier.

There really is no other way to interpret it.
I don’t have the energy right now to argue against Worgen tails in general, but in the case of this particular tweet there is no argument to be had.

She is quite literally saying that the Worgen race does not have tails.
She isn’t at all specifying that it’s only Genn that doesn’t have a tail.

Indeed. In fact, she’s saying that she had to remove the tail from Genn because she was corrected by another dev and was told that “worgen [in plural] do not have tails”.

There’s really no other way of interepting it imo.

Again, I’m not against Worgen tails. But I’m also not going to ignore current lore.

But they would look better with tails, no?

Would High Elves be available to the void elves if devs were always right?

Cause they flip flop all the darn time.

My skin tone doesn’t need an explanation. Neither does this.

Like if something about Worgen would fundamentally change about them with tails than without you’d have an argument.

But nothing about Worgen changes if some of them have tails except that some of them have tails.

What about worgen changes with tails?

Can anyone explain why that is something worth arguing against?

Why deny worgen players who generally support this?

I believe so, yes, because they never explicitly said Void Elves would never be able to have access to natural skin/hair colors.

Indeed they do. And I feel that they love to retcon. Likely because they can’t keep track of all the lore, and it’s normal, it’s been what, +15 years already. But I still remember when Suramar was supposed to be destroyed and under water. :unamused:

While I understand your point, I don’t agree with it - I really need an explanation if not for all, at least for most of the customizations. And I do hope Blizzard shows us in game where these customizations are coming from. I don’t need cinematics or quests or whatever. A simple short NPC dialogue or a scene where we see Void Elves channeling Void into High/Blood Elves is enough for me (or your wonderful Void storm idea, but I guess that would require more work form them xD).

Indeed, and like I said, I don’t think it’s an issue that Worgen players have access to a tail. I’m indifferent, and I’m always in favor of diversity and more options. But I do like to respect a certain level of consistency when it comes to lore. Many people appreciate lore (I mean lower case lore, but we also love upper case Lore <3), and I feel that retconning “worgen do not have tails” would feel bad for those people. It would imply a loss of trust - this new content that is being released, should I get emotionally involved or attached to it, considering that it might be retconned in a few years? That’s my point, there - regardless of whether Worgen players ever have access to tails or not.

Oh no, I won’t ever deny players something they want, you know this very well. I would suggest them though to offer a lore-compliant explanation to why certain Worgen would suddenly have tails. To help them with their cause, mainly.

I can think of a second generation of Worgen, with a different type of curse, where they develop a tail, for instance. That would also be cool because Worgen would have to deal with two types of curses now, and imagine the new lore potential of it. :wolf:

I mean, Ion pretty much just told everybody who wanted High Elves to go play Horde, and now here we are with everything that’s going on and Alliance now have blonde haired, fair skinned elves to as a subrace after having it shoved in their face, and the mere idea of wanting those playable being a crapshoot, for over a decade.

I’ll die on my hill of if there is any plausibility for it, it’s better to allow everybody to have access to as many aesthetics and looks that make sense as possible for that race, and it’s potential subraces, that don’t break immersion with their current classes, then it’s best to work towards having it, ontop of trying to cover as many popular niches as possible - spread out as much as possible - for population balance. (…especially if we get cross faction so the racial choices are legit, not, I was forced to play x.)

Worgen got pretty screwed through the years, and there’s no way to deny it.
Hell, they don’t have paladins as a class simply because apparently one writer threw a hissy-fit about it while others were apparently wanting it. Like, threatened to quit if it happened. (I’ll try to look it up again in the morning. Somebody DM’d me something about it forever ago somewhere.)

There comes a point where we have to sit down and think why something never came to pass, and when it comes to the entire history of what’s happened to particular races, sometimes it is better to move forwards and do new things for them.

Worgen can’t have tails because it seems that, at the start, somebody on the staff hated furries (lol female worgen model got sabotaged). But, we can stretch the lore and change and do retcons to make stuff like Nightborne exist, and we have subraces for both Sand and Dark Trolls.
I don’t think it’s too farfetched to do that for a minor cosmetic feature that keeps “accidentally” happening for a faction that’s struggling, and especially for a race that still has not gotten it’s full customization range back in general. (Hair Colours / Actual Hair Styles.)

This is one of those things I don’t think is 100% a lore thing despite it being stated (because again, how many times have they gone back ,or even lied?) , and even if it were somehow - after everything that’s happened to that race - and even if it were, a minor adjustment for the sake of fixing an aesthetic issue with the race is fine. Afterall, stretches and retcons for me, but not for thee, seems to be a thing going on lately.
Alliance - especially Worgen - can have a little love in this regard.

Especially when it came to flying.

I don’t see a problem here as well. Worgen should have had tails from the very beginning. I find it amusing that the situation mirrors the High Elf problematic the Alliance has. Either their races lack features or are simply denied. If you want to be mean spirited, then you could also bring the point that the developers gave the Alliance the Lightforged Draeneis because they don’t want to give them the Broken. Either way, the Alliance is always screwed thanks to the developers.

He isn’t the only developer who is a problem on the team. One of the senior developers, has also been noted being a toxic LGBT-figure who blocks people and as awful as the one feminist writer who hates on men on twitter. The whole team needs a systematic shakeup.

Would it be possible to make the head-piece jewelry on the nightborne available to both genders? I like the female head-piece but sometimes I feel it’s a bit chunky especially paired with certain transmogs. The male one is very simple, yet elegant and it would be awesome to be able to choose which one to use regardless of gender!
Also, more jewelry colors would be appreciated to match tmogs whenever you have the time to incorporate that

Can you explain what you’re on about here? The person is toxic because why?

Beyond that, a highly requested thing for Draenei have always been broken horns and horn jewelry. Now they made them lightforged exclusive, despite obviously this making no sense lorewise. If anything why would the FORGED ones break and the other ones not?

The WoW team swings between sexist racist -------- and hyperwoke self-righteous --------- , 0 balance there. And none of them actually care about the players, they are just self-serving.

Seems simple enough

You’re claiming someone is toxic and mentioning something about them as if trying to paint the picture of that toxicity.

I’m confused as to why who you described is toxic and why you think they would be a problem? What is the trait about them you’re describing as toxic?

Yup, they know how bad it would look if they straight up said it so they just dance around it so they can try to pretend it’s not something messed up.

They will surely swap them over to the Draenei at some point.

I agree. It seems pointless to deny tails to Worgens or even argue against it.

That’d leave LF being, again same as draenei. Which is in and of itself an issue. Is just the way they implement things is incredibly lacking in creativity for a videogame company.

Can I know?

While I think it’s likely that regular Draenei will see more horn options when Blizz is working on core races again, the LFD have been actively fighting the Legion for a long time. Maybe they just have a higher chance they’ve had broken horns?

Seriously though I do hope regular Draenei get some of those options down the line.

Also Tauren should get their tail and tail jewelery options that HMT got. (with different more appropriate to regular Tauren doodads.)

Yeah, that’s what I don’t get.

Optional tails does not really make any lore change except that some have tails. There’s no real need for an explanation. It won’t change what they are.

I mean things like battle damage can happen to anybody.

LFD still have tattoos and those metal things. What other distinguishing features would you like to see? (genuinely curious)

They dodged high elves for years on population alone. That was the devs.

How bout Eredar? The biggest retcon in all their history is the only reason Draenei work.

No notes.

I just wanted this to be shown again.

Cause it’s entirely true.

Lore explanations are grand for things that don’t have a clear source, but only if they actually matter or change something.

If they give tails to Worgen the only thing they need say is, “there were always tailed Worgen, there just weren’t any in game or stories so far.”

Cause again. Optional tails don’t change what a Worgen is, how it operates, or what any of them have done.

It does nothing to their lore.

Void elves getting an explanation for their natural tones and hair makes sense cause that change is far more important to what they are. (plus it gives us an explanation for how we make more of ourselves) But even that isn’t entirely needed. We already all assume (and if blizzard is smart they’ll make it canon eventually) how new ones are made between the Scholars and Wayfarers. Its probably right.

The reason Worgen don’t need an explanation but Void Elves could use one is because up to now we’ve only been shown Blueberry void elves, and told Alleria is unique. It changes what they are. (But again only minorly and they can still get away with never explaining it.)

Worgen though… a tail does nothing to them. They’re werewolves affected by a curse. There is no reason for them not having a tail other than an arbitrary decision by a dev at some point. And if its optional and not going to affect any lore characters? Then why’s it matter?

That was a bit rambly… TL:DR, Most customizations could probably use a lore explanation, but many of them are so minor and purely aesthetic that they really don’t.

Then you’re playing the wrong game by the wrong company my friend. Blizzard has been anything but consistent.

Remember the Shen’dralar who sucked on a demon for millenia? The Nightborne who changed because of their Nightwell, meanwhile High Elves didn’t change because of a well at all but rather just wandering away from Kalimdor.

Three of the same group of people all experiencing specific things that should change them in one way but are often contradictory or just the opposite of what should be expected.

Those people can always just not use the tails…

Thats the glory of it being optional.

If for the player they don’t want to have them they don’t need to.

You’re putting up a block to them getting what might be the most requested feature for worgen players.

Imagine if you could only get high elven options from void elves IF and only if they added my scenario for showing them making more Void Elves.

Thats an insane thing to force on someone, especially when you’re saying you yourself are indifferent.

I want an explanation for the High Elven options for Void Elves (as well as how we make more of ourselves) but my acceptance or desire for those options doesn’t require that happens. That would be immensely unfair.

I think the RP tool explanation is sufficient all things considered, its personal to you and how you see your character, it starts and ends there and players can enjoy the options from that standpoint
