Why the lack of Customization?

Hoping they answer my questions in this thread.

“Cause ya just gotta know”

So are Void Elves. It appears that AR are getting more options than their core races. I posted above showing how many more unique options some AR are getting versus their core races.

This so much please.

Also can we get hairbands like the worgen in the wispering woods card from Hearthstone?

Happy that we can finally play as High Elves that we see on the Alliance :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: once 9.1.5 releases!

Sorry to burst your bubble here, Feyrre, and I am going to be completely straight up here, but this is entirely wrong.

First of all, most of the latest options given to both Blood Elves and Void Elves is to put both playable races to there roots, and is to give everyone the chance to play as an original High Elf. Blood Elves were given Blue/Purple eyes as to Void Elves were given more blue eyes and purple eyes for the same reason.

Void Elves were granted access to skin colours and hair colours, as well as also an incoming toggle option also for the Void Tenticles.

But in the lore, the Blood Elves would actually not have blue or purple eyes. They would have Green and Gold, the green to resemble the effects of the fel from the recontruction of Silvermoon, and gold for priest and paladins in there use of the Holy magic and the holy energies within the Sunwell…

One thing Void Elves do not have, and I hope nobody ask for it, because they belong to the Blood Elves entirely, is Green Eyes and Golden Eyes. Because they are the identity of the Blood Elves.

Have you seen how facial hair is done on night elves and humans with separate mustache, beard, and sideburn options? I know draenei (non-lightforged) got options along the lines you’re describing where all facial hair options are under the same setting and your specification of facial hair options sounds like it’s more along those lines that doesn’t allow for quite as much customization.

I still want to be able to re-create the facial hair options that are currently available (my void elf uses the “full” option personally, which cannot be re-created on male night elves), but with the setup of male humans and night elves with 3 separate customizable options (mustache, sideburns, and beard).

This is incorrect, the sunwell that gives them energy is slowly purifying the blood elves. It is within reason, and according to the dev during wrath I think, that blood elves get’s the blue glow back to their eyes.

The sunwell is still a font of arcane energy, although it has light energy in it too now, and not all blood elves cares for the light, only a few does in fact.

We’ve been over this a few times.

Blue eyes will return to the blood elves over time from the Sunwell.

Only faithful blood elves (or high elves technically) will see their eyes go gold.

The rest will return to what they were before. So blue.

There are a few situations where they may see other colors.

Much of this is covered in the CDev things. 2 and 3 I think.

Gold eyes was covered separately.

Mine are 100% staying fel green on mine! They’ll nab the mana the old fashioned way. Gotta nab some crystals to take home to Northrend for my still-alive elves because I don’t like the other colors for anything besides green. Paladins and priests though have gold because yeah. Otherwise, green eyes for the win!

I do like how they’re not required to go to Silvermoon or the sunwell for their ‘magic fix’. To be honest, I wish they had a fruit tree like the nightborne to get rid of that issue. I’m not a fan of the ‘lightwell’ stuff.

You talking about this WoW death from an “Ask a Creative Dev” back in 2011?

Q: Why do blood elves still have green eyes?

A: Corruption from fel energies takes a long time to wear off. It’s why most orcs are still green even though Mannoroth is dead.

Fen said it best.

I’m not sure how you’re determining the amount of subraces a race has. I would personally refer to it as how many themes a race has. Void Elves have two themes: Void (Void Elf) and Arcane (High Elf), whereas Blood Elves have Five themes: Fel, Light, Arcane, and Blood (Blood Elf) and High Elf (Arcane again). Obviously in the case of Blood Elves though, some of their themes aren’t given the amount of representation they should within customization options.

If we were to use your “subrace” term, that would actually put both at one (Void Elves and Blood Elves both having the High Elf subrace, while they themselves are a “core race”).

Regardless, I do agree that Blood Elves should get Dark Ranger / San’layn customization to add in the Blood theme that has slowly been building up in their story. I also do think they should get some Light themed customization as well. I additionally think building upon their Fel theme would be great too. This gives them more themes specific to the Blood Elf core race that would be unique to them alone.

I agree with you, but this is ultimately an example where both sides are correct.

If we take a look at Blood Elves, even if they weren’t given Blue eyes they still have multiple other colors (various shades of Yellow and Green if we completely exclude the shades of Blue and singular Purple).

This does imply that once the Sunwell was purified, even though the amount of Holy energy within it wasn’t a lot (I’d wager less than 50% of the energy is Light while the majority is Arcane) it was enough to override the Fel within the Blood Elves to change some of them from having Green/Fel eyes to Yellow/Holy.

We know that just being around heavy use of fel magic turned the eyes of the blood elves green. We can also deduce that this same reaction works with other Cosmic Forces. Once they changed from being around a lot of Fel, whatever the Blood Elves started to be around instead Cosmic Force wise would override the Green eyes. Therefore, them focusing on the Arcane again would replace the Fel eyes with Arcane eyes which thus provides the Blues and Purple. Realistically, not all Blood Elves would have their eyes changed away from Fel though since some will take longer to transition off of the magic than others.

In terms of time, I would say those that aren’t any “class” would take the longest as they wouldn’t be using a Cosmic Force that could speed up the replacement process. They would also be randomly assigned either Blue, Purple or Yellow eyes. All Light worshipers would be given Yellow eyes and it would occur much quicker. All Arcane users would be given Blues or Purple eyes and likewise it would occur much quicker. Those still using Fel would maintain their Fel eyes, and those using Void would get Purple eyes.

Technically speaking, there are logical reasons for how Void Elves could get those eye colors. While they are infused with Void, which grants them the Purple eyes, the second Purple eye color and the Blue eyes (given that they’re shared with Blood Elves) imply they’re from Arcane.

Therefore, the Void that is infused within them isn’t enough to override other Cosmic Forces. We can thus deduce that a Void Elf that isn’t influenced by a Cosmic Force (those that are “classless” as well as Warriors and Hunters who could both be included) would be defaulted to Void eyes. Those that use the Void would also have Void eyes. However, other Cosmic Forces would be capable of changing their eyes too. The only eye option that 100% would never translate over would be shades of Yellow in terms of it coming from the Light since they can’t use the Light.

I’m not done though, because actually it could translate over. Even if we deny the evidence that other Cosmic Forces can override Void eyes, there are still ways to get all those colors (including yellows) onto Void Elves through the use of Void creatures. Colors like Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, White, Black, etc. all appear on Old Gods and their minions. Therefore, since they are creatures of Void, the Void could cause Void Elves to achieve those eye colors.

“Corruption from fel energies takes a long time to wear off. It’s why most orcs are still green even though Mannoroth is dead.”

I explained above why it didn’t take as long as some may have originally thought, however it would still take a long time for “classless”/“Cosmic Force-less” individuals. Given this explanation by the Devs though, this does imply that Orcs (the normal ones) will eventually get their brown skin tones back too.

I do not think dark/ranger/sanlayn is the same as blood magic customization. I think they are either best suited as an AR or a fosaken model toggle.

Yes I know san’layne drinks blood. But they do have a whole slew of original customization that warrants an AR.

Is this a theory? I feel this is a theory and not the actual deal. Blue eyes can be seen as void eyes since blue is associated with the void sometimes.

Agreed. This can be true if blizz adds them.

Yeah but we known this already. thanks though.

I have effectively no notes on this.

nods

wanders off

Edit:

wanders back

Actually I have some notes after rereading a bit closer.

Will update when I get home. Lol

EDIT2:

Blood Elves are not a different race to High Elves. This is not a subrace for Blood Elves. Its just what they are especially since their blue eyes will eventually return. There is no difference.

The Devs have said it was 50/50. I believe they use the term half though.

No notes.

Void Elves started with Blue eyes. Not purple.

Still no real clear answer as to what purple actually means.

Nothing really has been stated in the lore that would either support or negate this. It’d just be an assumption.

That said, overall I think this is likely.

Void Elves have two colors of eye right now and while we have no answer for what they specifically mean its clear that color changes are intended.

Fully agree here.

Interesting. Now I wonder if Orcs will get those brown skins in a future as customizations.

I’d kinda like that honestly.

Not sure if it’s something orc mains would want or not.

I’d think they want dragonmaw/black/ash skin colors first.

It would be a nice story conclusion for orcs, that they finally regain their original appearance and leave behind their Fel corruption.

Might be stupid for non-RPers, but I think it would open many RP possibilities, without needing to resort to Mag’har Orcs.
