I mean I’m sure you do haha that’s sort of the direction it will take people anyway, so if you didn’t want to do arena at all then I would like this change too.
Yes, it does. In the old tbc arena system when you leave a team you lose your personal rating. Back then if you were on a 2200 rating team and your personal rating was 2200 within the team, if you left and joined a new team, your rating was now 1500. Your MMR is still high, but your personal rating is 1500 now. Christ even if you left your team and joined the exact same time seconds after, you personal rating still reset.
I know you didn’t play tbc so you might be confusing the new personal rating system without teams, but this is why it’s best for people like you to stay out of conversations you know nothing about
If I had to guess, you are probably going to get something like 50-100ish points per win at the very start.
1500 has always been the base MMR for everyone. So even tho you have 0 rating, your MMR is 1500, so the closer you get to 1500 (if your mmr stays the exact same) the smaller amount of points you get. So if I climbed to let’s say 1300 and my mmr is still 1500, and let’s say at 0 rating I was getting 90ish points per win… well now I’ll get like maybe 40ish points per win.
If my mmr goes up while I’m climbing, I’ll still be making a ton more points at 1300 because my rating is trying to catch up to my mmr.
If I lose a ton of games while climbing and let’s say my mmr drops to 1300 then my rating per win will slow down way sooner because I’m approaching my MMR.
Before, bad players could stay within the 1500ish range even if they lost a lot which still gave them decent points for off pieces. Now if they are truly a 1300 rated player, they will never hit 1500 and the points they will get will basically be meaningless.
Unless they really change up how this system works with how many points you earn depending on your rating then idk why it would even be an option for bad players to q arena at all. Before they could still get SOME pieces, and they could still get pieces from earlier seasons if they kept playing (like getting season one gear in season two). But with the rating starting at 0 then idk what the pint for them is, if their goal is to grab a couple pieces.
But like I said maybe they will change something else too, Christ they might as well not even use any of the tbc systems at all at this point tbh.
Most of us are wanting to TBC arena because of the old system. Retail pvp is a joke and many stopped them because of the ratings needed and quit the game.
So what does Blizz do… the same concept for TBC , its like do they want this game to die off? i don’t get it.
I’ll get my full set for every season no problem, don’t worry about me. My issue isn’t that “I can’t get mah free epix”, all of old wow is free epics lol. The issue is that if you don’t allow bad players to get ANY piece of relevant pvp gear (this isn’t just tied to season one) then they will just not play it.
Idc if you think this is good or not, but when your casuals leave the bracket, your bracket dies. There’s no ands ifs or buts about it.
Lol, bud. Challenge is one thing. Brutally unforgiving MMR mechanics with a continually shrinking arena ladder, on the other hand, are absolute insanity. I don’t think you have any conception of the current state of SL (retail) arena.
You understand that in order to IMPROVE that means you are beating someone else in order to get your rating right? This isn’t pve where everyone can just IMPROVE and everyone ends up with their gear at the end of the day. No, in order to IMPROVE you will push someone down, that’s how pvp works. And the people who are getting pushed down now have no incentive to play because they literally get NOTHING. I’m not asking to give them a full set or crazy pvp gear, I’m asking to give them incentive for SOMETHING, so they still play and keep the bracket alive
Lol? If I lose I have no incentive to play? Do you ever wonder why Starcraft and LOL were so much more popular than WOW? It’s because people dont mind losing if they are learning and objectively getting better… they still play.
LoL and Starcraft aren’t comparable. In those games you start at nothing, you literally only bring your skill. If you are wanting to compare these then you are actively asking for everyone in pvp to have access to all the same gear lol.
The problem is that only competitive players like those games. A lot of little fairies play wow and simply have no interest in the pvp aspect therefore shrinking the bracket by a lot.
While I am sure someone will try to relate boosting to this via the slippery slope argument, I am really baffled by these changes cause…I don’t recall anyone in the community having an issue with how arenas worked? At this rate I’ll play arena, get whatever rating I get and us BG gear to fill the gaps if the systems too jank.
I support almost all changes made, until now. I am unsure what the point of this was other than blizzard just wanting to make arena gear harder to get?
IMO pvp rewards shouldn’t be available till after the season ends and shouldn’t be gear anyway. But the gear isn’t gonna let a bad player beat a good one… it’s no excuse for losing.
