Why san'layn wont happen thread

Anti-HEs could have posted their rant in the HE megathread too… but mods allow anti megathreads for some reason.

Oh goodie, the Alliance gets another race that nobody asked for. Hurray.

No i dont recall all being wiped out but they seem to be promptly defeated and their potential horde membership prevented by the alliance.
For me their situation is similar to high elves, they wont happen coz theyve been handled even tho there are existing members of their race. I wuldnt mind seeing either or both of those races happen. One small hope is that their models support gear in the game and another hope is that blizz can always come up with lore (i.e. void elves)

There are at least 2 San’layn princes alive. Whereabouts are unknown there is good info on tgem on the megathread for San’layn

don’t get deflated by the haters in this thread.

There is nothing wrong with going against the grain of collective thought. The current group think would have you believe that all opinions are created equal, when they may not even be realistic.

Don’t let these people shame you into affirming their common belief. Your stance is reasonable in wanting something, but acknowledging its likelihood.

And for the most part you may be right, WoW is a bit elf saturated right now. But, none of us could have foreseen void elves or lfd, or even the concept of allied races for that matter.

As the Zandalari and Vulpera show the Alliance method of “They’re interacting with the Horde, murder them!” tends to have opposite effect of what they want.

Yeah that didnt work. Similarly Sylvanas’s plan to kill hope and break the alliances will…

looks around at everyone’s general mood for this expansion

Eh…

In the world of Ionhazagibbercraft, San’layn won’t ever happen for the same reasons Manari Eredar, Valkyr or High Elves won’t ever happen.

Im having fun in the expansion. Dont get me wrong. Im also not saying its the best ever. But the story has its funny parts :+1:

Yeah it has its moments.

But then it has its moments… it has a lot of those.

Blizz said that they are now working on community requested allied races. They alao said “don’t give up hope”. San’layn was a popular thread when that was said.

The alliance campaign has you kill Dreven and some neophytes on a boat. Do you think they are extinct after killing a boatload of them? Probably not. The Sanlayn were also very present in the frost dk artifact quests. You see Sanlayn fire mages and different classes in the Icc raid before and after wotlk. Drevens forces also joined the horde in BFA. They didnt mention other forces joining the horde. Similar to how our mag’har are from alternate draenor when we also have had some from the main universe.

Anyway there are a bunch of ideas in the thread of how they could weave the lore. I suggest anyone interested check the thread out and be part of the discussion respectfully. Part of the discussion is listening and bouncing back ideas. It’s up to blizzard to make them happen. It is one of my top desired tropes to play since I started the game. I modeled my hunter after Slyvanas. Our ghost hunter necromancer. The Sanlayn and darkfallen(basically playable banshees) could be a unique addition to the horde. Its playing what our warchief is.

I do quite believe blizz is listening. San’layn are featured and have playable models on the store disguise toy; which I take as a sign of them listening.

My problem is after Sylvanas what leader among the Horde is going to actively recruit and accept them. Most the other Horde leadership dont seem like they would be too fond of them becoming a prominent member of the Horde. Honestly time will tell with blizz

Slyvanas gave them a chance and her story isnt done.

The first San’layn are blood elves that went with Illidan to attack Arthas in the frozen throne. They were allies to the Illadari. They died and got reborn.

That saying they could open up to being allies to the blood elves.

They are also shown raising new San’layn. Neophytes (neo means new in latin) so they are basically fresh San’layn being made.

In ICC you see them using the Darkfallen Orb to be resseructed. These magics appear similar to the blood moon themes of WoD. Note that Nerzhul may have possesed similar knowledge linking San’Layn with Orc magics.

they should not happen because

1 - They are straight up evil

there is no middle ground, they are unstable, evil and cruel, they are different from the forsaken, they don’t work in society, neither with the living. The “beloved” Draven( or the hell was his name) appear eating his own soldiers, this would be common thing for then.

2 - They are not even a thing in the horde in the first place.

Rly, they were just a minor thing for the alliance storyline, nothing more, pointless, and after that, thank god they were never mentioned again.

3 - They were too few, and the alliance kill all the ones in the horde already

Thanks alliance, you did a great job cleaning the horde from this filthy. Apart from that, there is no more named, thy should not even exist in the first place after wtLK

4 - Only Sylvanas would give then a chance, because she is also crazy, no one trust then.

neither Rokhan and Talanji trust then, and only ature then because Sylvanus said so, and it show that they were right and those elves should not be trusted.

5 - They don’t fit the horde thematic, no matter how you try to distort, they don’t.

Horde is a tribal faction with moral standards, values based on shamanism and war, we already have enough exceptions to maintain a variety of people playing. Elves and the edgelords should not usurp the faction that they chose to join.

6 - The horde don’t want then, and they do not make sense to join.

Who want besides sylvanus? when she is gone no one will ever want more undead elves, especially after all she did.

They have no use for the horde, and no one would want then, they also don’t make sense joining a faction war and pleading themselves for the horde when they can do their own evil things far away.

7 - Blood elf DKs are essentially san’layn

elves sucking blood, no need for more.

8 - the game already have too many elves

nothing to add here.

9 - There is no reason to retcon tons of lore just to this happen.

And many things would be retconed, like the fact they are straight up evil.

10 - Most of the playable who want sanl’ayn as an excuse for they to come paired with high elves

And we already have too many elves.

at least let other races come first, before Demanding more elves and retcons for that to happen.

Where is stated that they are inherently so, or rather, moreso than the Forsaken or Death Knights? Or Void Elves?

The whole event was them trying to be.

points at Mg’har and Void Elves

I can definitely see Baine and Thrall and others giving them a chance.

They do. Horde is a family made up out of outcasts. Orcs had to flee internment camps, Trolls and goblins the destruction of their lands. Forsaken were cast out by their former human allies.

It’s not, and they don’t have a state sponsored religion.

The Blood Elves who thought their families lost to the Scourge?

No?

Where is this explicitly stated, Arthas isn’t the Lich King anymore? There about as evil as Forsaken and Warlock and Death Knights, which the Horde already has.

Blood Elves are already a thing. But to otherwise counter this I don’t care about High Elves, I want vampires.

True

:x: San’layn

Because they didn’t need the control of the Lich king to do their evil things, and after they “free” themselves they continue to be evil.

the blood curse make then unstable and evil, draven sucking his own soldiers is a clearly example, and they are not like DKS because DK is a class.

and the event show that they fail in every single form

nice try, but maghar are many, Blizzard said more of then come from the portal, we just didn’t saw in the scenario, void elves ae also more, capable of doing a force whiting the alliance

the sanlayn should be wiped out after nortrend war.

they would give an evil race a chance, even after what sylvanas did? they can be that stupid but is unlikely, they barely accept the forsakens who were just zombies needing help.

Vampires evil elves who suck his own soldiers DO NOT belong in this Family

would you put a murderer in your home so he can kill your brother or mother in their sleep?

the horde is nota trashcan

they do, shamanism is followed and practiced by every horde race, even goblins, beside both elves and forsaken.

like i said, its a tribal faction with moral standarts based on shamanism and war with exceptions, evil vampire elves do not fit thematically.

why they would want more dead elves to slay their own people?

i mean yes? they already retcon they existing in the first place, they would need to retcon their inherently evil nature, and retcon the horde morals to let that happen.

again, play the game, Draven sucking is own soldiers is a clearly example of how they are screwed in the head.

they aren’t, many forsaken are not evil and want to lice in peace, like the council formed in sylvanas absence.

classes are different from races, warlocks and dks to not straight up kill his soldiers to feed, they are outcast in the society and live in the shadows, the dks by example most live in exile or int he ebon blade, only being call to do a job because of how they are unstable

Races are different than class, you can’t hide a entire race like you can do with a DK who is there more for gameplay.

i didn’t say everyone did i?

San’layn won’t happen because they’re irrelevant villain NPCs who are canonically eradicated except for some lady in Dalaran’s jail.
