Why is the dungeon community just so hostile?

I usually do the following if I’m helping friends level.

  • I ask people to ping me if I need to stop, cause I know I can be oblivious at times. – I do this so they know I’m not gonna take it as some passive aggressive complaint. I got no problems with going slow / waiting for mana if someone is having a bad time going fast.
  • Once I stop, I stop till the whole pack is dead. I don’t like chaining groups together for non-stop combat. (I feel you Assassination Rogues – I try to let you guys get a good opener) I also respect wanting a clean pull for details on those big AOE pulls, as well as wanting a clean Details log for bosses. Just cause it’s a normal doesn’t mean you aren’t gonna wanna look at details later so I try not to butcher details data.)
  • If someone dies, I apologize and try to make a mental note of anything I could have done better to prevent that from happening again.
  • I go out of my way to make sure I’m still killing prio targets/interrupting important spells/stun enemies as often as I can to reduce the load on healers.
  • I try to give any plate gear I get to anyone who could use it one they hit level cap.

I feel like you can go fast if you do it in a controlled way. There is a big difference between making a couple measured big pulls vs having a never ending trail of mobs scattered everywhere just killing everyone from the beginning all the way to the end of the dungeon.

I don’t always succeed at making clean pulls – but that’s how I try to do it anyways.

Seems to me like a little communication to let the group know I’m more like the adult on a field trip, here to get the dungeon done fast but also you’re all under my care and I’m not gonna get you all murdered like some kind of psychopath trying to limit test my character to the sounds of all your muffled screams in the background lol.

I’m not a good tank, but I do try not to make everyone miserable.

Granted, I ain’t even remotely interested in tanking M+ anymore. This is just in LFD when I’m helping friends zerg to 80.

It can never come back. That era of gaming is over.

Best to try to keep up with the group and without saying a word. That’s my motto and haven’t been kicked since it was implemented. It is what it is.

edit- saying hi or responding is generally ok. And according to the forums kicks happen all the time. My groups have been generally friendly.

I leveled as a tank, got kicked for NOT mass pulling so like… my options are limited here. I hate mass pulling

You said it yourself. it’s a leveling dungeon. Not a take it slow and relax dungeon. Not a make new friends dungeon. Not a learn how to do it dungeon. It’s a leveling dungeon. I didn’t call it that, you did.

A lot of players feel like leveling is a chore so they rush/optimize doing it. When someone gives you more chores you don’t like it. Leveling this late expect people to be blasting through alts. If you want chill, run follower dungeons or create a party.

I disagree.

The friendly, let’s learn and play and enjoy together WoW can very much return in a corner or section of players if we keep expressing ourselves and encouraging Blizzard to support it. Then the gogogo people can play the game with each other, and we can do so as well. I suspect that a large portion of the community will prefer the more relaxed play style.

TWW has had a LOT of vote kick complaints, more than usual.

Because of these two aspects of what you said. I care for intellectual honesty and I care about dungeons as it is my favourite form of PvE; raids are a blast for socializing but dungeons, M+ especially, is what I enjoy the most.

If someone makes a broad statement of “Why is the dungeon community just so hostile?” you have included all forms of dungeon content. Normal levelling-, endgame Normal- and Heroic, as well as M+. Which is further proven by you insinuating that a random popularity poll was “influenced” by the “mostly pro M+ players” on these forums at which point… I have to ask, exactly who is your main? Because you can’t be a regular on these forums if you think folks are “pro M+” on these forums.

When you make a broad statement that encapsulates a broader audience than what you intended, that ain’t my problem that you made such erroneous statements and claims at that point. I have backed up every claim I have made, you just disliked that you were proven wrong, and as a direct result… refuse to acknowledge any of it: people have always been speeding through dungeons as quickly as possible, because that’s what people like to do. Which is why they also do it on the classic servers as well.

Instead … you opt for this instead:

If you want to not be referred to as a troll, maybe don’t spend this much time making ad hominem attacks on someone else. Because you have certainly proven me correct regarding you as a troll.

So, you can start the mud slinging, but when I push back, it is an ad hominem attack?

I’m so tired of people like you just sitting on these forums all day every day, constantly needling people about their experiences in-game, saying they’re liars. This is gaslighting dude, total gaslighting.

Congrats for proving your bias here as well.

Players have been speedrunning since vanilla, but I agree the behavior has become more prevalent since the introduction of M+.

Literally none of that is true.

[Normal person] X [Timers] X [Anonymity] = Total F***wad

You do, mobs can still hit hard and if things don’t get smoked instantly then yeah eventually healing is needed. Either way, that doesn’t address what he is saying. He didn’t queue for Mythic plus, he queued for a leveling dungeon and he can’t run it by nornal standards because the “go go go” mentality has bled into everything

Leveling is the weakest form of the dungeon, meaning its also where you go to practice healing and tanking. Just because it isn’t called practice dungeon doesn’t make it NOT one… if you want to use your own logic here, stop using bread knives for anything other than bread. Butter knives? Man, don’t touch it with anything else or the world may implode.

This is ridiculous and if you can’t see that your statement is pure insanity incarnate then you shouldn’t be on forums at all. The weakest form of all content is inherently expected to be used for practicing a skill you have lesser knowledge in. It’s that or we can just start taking 0 rating healers into Mythic plus bevause that’s a dungeon and it requires healing so I guess he can practice it there too, right? You’re the type of person that if I see you in-game flaming, i’ll make sure you get trolled for the rest of the day and it’d be hilarious to watch. Hell i’ll pull my entire guild in on it.

Stop being a jerk on an online forum where you think you’re untouchable, trust me, there are people who can and will disintegrate your computer if you piss them off enough. I suggest keeping your ego in your pants where no one wants to see or hear you.

They literally did this for the m+ this season and people are whining incessantly about it being too difficult. Unfortunately, it seems the wow community in general just can not be pleased.

it’s the conflict between " this is a challenging dungeon, and you will do this a thousand times until you want to gouge your eyes out"

Just do follower dungeons, man. WoW has no legit moderation. People are allowed to behave however they want and the tools designed for moderation are just additional ways for people to troll you.

Avoid groups. Play with people you know and you won’t have any problems.

Not that it always happens. I’d say far more often than not I’ve played with decent people, or at least quiet people who just did their thing and left. But there’s always the risk of running into a bad experience and those people will face no consequences for their actions.

Heck, you have a much better chance at getting punished for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, even suspended for it, because a few people thought it would be funny or whatever reason drives them to behave that way.

Best to just avoid group content with strangers in this game all together. It’s not the WoW of the early 2000s.
