it isn’t striving that brings criticism, some people are just genuinely toxic or elitist.
The two aren’t mutually exclusive you know. There can be both toxic people and people who are insulted based on “you seem to fit into the same general category” based on one line… if that, of a post.
I don’t believe in toxic people. I do think that people can have destructive behaviors as a result of suffering.
so troll posts stay up now?
Citations, please.
I would posit that these “victims” are the ones who demand LFR and LFG be removed, complain about “welfare epics”, etc.
I didn’t know they were looked down upon. I thought those were the ones continually looking down on others because others don’t choose to play that way.
GD= God’s damned forums.
This place is full of cynicism. It takes a little bit to get used to it, but once you’ve crossed that threshold, the forums aren’t that bad imo.
I don’t see antagonism toward achievers on GD… what I do see, though, is frustration stemming from accomplished players using said accomplishments as validation for their opinions and invalidation of those of others. It’s like the nerdy version of “do you even lift” and it understandably rubs people the wrong way.
Having climbed the ladder, the person at the top knows more about it than the person at the bottom.
So when an actual raider says that LFR is a bad idea, or when someone who does high level Mythic+ say that Raider IO is actually a good thing, or when someone with high arena rating says that, no, you’re class/spec isn’t broken, and that it sounds like you just need to practice… they might just know what they’re talking about.
It’s not an “appeal to authority”, it’s an “appeal to experience”.
Nerds gonna hate other nerds. Its trickle-down to the bottom of the barrel and someone has to rule ,even at the bottom. Thus, “I am very good at WoW” becomes some sort of king of the dweebs declaration. While the other dorks try to knock that geek off of the one thing he has to stand above them.
I agree with most of your post except…
Because it completely ignores why LFR was created to begin with and unless something has changed within the game/community itself… that reason still exists.
I feel like we’re not being given the details of a story here. Did you tell some guy to “get good scrub?” Because I find that not everyone is motivated properly by negative reinforcement.
Not really. It all comes down to the reasons the Raider gives as to why LFR is bad.
People are just jealous of over people’s achievements and lash out with resentment. Don’t let it bother you, they’re just miserable people themselves. You’ll encounter this in almost every aspect of life.
That’s fair. I guess I will just say I have never seen a reason given that also included some solution to fix the problem that existed to begin with.
“I’m choosing the lower difficulty and complaining that it’s not difficult enough!” is all I get from “raiders” complaining about LFR. Why are you even in LFR?
If that’s all you’re getting, then you’re not paying attention. You are coming in with a preconceived notion of others, and only engaging with those who meet those expectations.
This is more common than you might think, so don’t feel too bad about it.
If you are striving for personal excellence, that’s awesome and a laudable goal. If you’re using it as an excuse to be a jerk and put down other players, that’s not.
Not everyone gets the same enjoyment or playstyle as everyone else.
I’m sorry I haven’t replied to all 58 other posts in this thread, but I was drawn to the irrationality in your post in particular and felt compelled to respond.
