Archeology was a ‘dead man walking’ for a while. One of the devs had said it was a feature that was really only intended for a single expansion and was only kept alive out of habit. Largely a slog in older content, it got a little better in Legion thanks to the quests and that the dig sites seemed to be quicker to complete. I remember how much of a pain it was to get the Sandstone drake so when I decided to go for the Aquamarine bug I took the easy route and ‘bought’ it in Dalaran.
Ion did say during his interview with (I think) Taliesin, is that Archaeology won’t be in DF at launch, and that they plan on putting a reworked version in during DF’s time.
Well yes but it’s not because they are lazy. It’s because there are only so many developer hours per release. So if archeology gets done, something else does not get done.
It’s like player housing. The question developers will ask is: “What do you want us to NOT do so we can do archeology instead?”
Honestly I really liked Archaeology from MoP onwards. I kept up to date with it every expansion until Shadowlands killed it. Cataclysm has some soul crushing RNG that they need to get rid of but ultimately I think the profession is fine. Just needs some bad luck protection and more stuff to dig up.
It’d be nice to target a specific branch too. I just want my troll sword damn it, stop giving me fossils!
That’s what the crates are for
I’m currently finishing up the pristine stuff in BFA and am using the loads of crates to do fossils in the process.
Not exactly.
Highly doubt we’ll see it in DF. They couldn’t even add back in the Warlords armor they specifically said would be in a future patch of SL, let alone entirely rework Archeology for a vauge chance.
Wow. This is a reasonable request. A tad insulting, but reasonable. A thing to remember is that a lot of these achievements actually require focusing on a single character to complete them. I do Archaeology because I enjoy it, which means it is spread over my dozens of characters. ( I do a lot of RPing so most characters have a specific purpose.) TBC, Wrath, and Mists are all locked behind Arch levels so I can’t just go there and start working on those achievements. And a lot of achievements are completing artifacts in, say, Panda land.
My point is, Arch achievements can show how much a person enjoys Archaeology, but if they use multiple characters, that way of measuring gets screwed up. I do appreciate that you are actually looking for information instead of simply being a jerk. Thank you.
Except, Korthia was all about archeology.
Remember there are ZERO Spirit Beasts to be found in the realm of Spirits… (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
And people are shocked Archeology wasn’t included. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Crates feel so slow though. 9 fragments for one artifact? Lemme do a full digsite! Or at least lower the more RNG heavy artifacts.
Used to love doing that for the cool stuffs. Musta been in the minority, if they decided to remove it.
Crates don’t feel bad/slow if you’re working on other objectives too.
Today I finished off the BFA pristine artifacts and racked up about 110 crates in the process, which I used on fossils and got a Pterrodax Hatchling out of it.
I’m going to work on the Legion stuff next. Crates are a benefit, not the objective, if that makes sense.
I mean that’s nice until I run out of other artifacts to grind. Literally all they can give me now is crates. I have all the Legion/BfA/Draenor/MoP artifacts. I’m just missing the Cata stuff for a few factions.
This sounds cool actually
Ehh I don’t know about that. What’s the point of me doing it if I can buy it off the AH?
You have a sauce for that? Only feedback I’m aware of is
“Future patch” isn’t “Future patch of shadowlands” Could be 17.3
Yeah no. When they say temporarily and future patch, while referencing Shadowlands, that doesn’t mean five years from now.
Very nice, I still have plenty to go. I got the Minimal Archaeology addon which really helps organize things and just makes the experience really good. I’m also working on the achievements.
On a side note, I see Blizzard screwed up scaling in Legion outdoor zones too. The ghosts that randomly spawn when you dig them up scale up to level 60 and have more health/take longer to kill than SL mobs
Yup, they lawyer-spoke that for a reason.
Sure, that’s what we would want but in my book they are in the clear as far as “lying” would go.
they probably have numbers on archeology participation from xpack to xpack and decided it wasnt a priority?
it’ll need big changes probably.
