Why is reworking archeology so hard?

Wouldn’t it just make sense to make it a way to obtain old, unobtainable cosmetic appearances / mounts/ items, and in turn make those sellable? Seems like the logical use of the profession to me.

There’s so many things to do with Archeology and I’m forever angry they removed it from SL and DF content.

(Edited for clarification!)

Well, you see, it involves work

and that’s a no-go.

Sounds like opening a can of worms.

I like Archaeology.

I don’t like the soul crushing RNG of it, though.

Cuz that would take man hours and they aint paying more workers to do it.
My wife worked at a place for years that used to run with 8 or 10 workers all day.
By the time she left they had them trying to run it with TWO workers.
Blizzard seems to have read their company manual.

Blizzard isn’t known for original ideas (all they have to do is remove the part of archaeology where you’re constantly re-casting prospect instead of just making a “hot and cold” system) and will frequently misunderstand what actually makes something unpopular.

The problem with Archaeology, in this case, isn’t the profession but instead the volume of RNG it will subject people to just to get something like Zin’rohk. An epic weapon remarkable only because it was one of the first cool two-handed weapons in WoW that came out of raid instances.

Allowing people to put the ‘cosmetic’ of the rarer solves on the AH would fix the issue of RNG then no? While something being a bit rare sucks, at least there would be a means to obtaining it rather than subjecting yourself to the dice roll.

What? When did they remove it?

SL and DF don’t have archeology. Perhaps poor wording on my part. I meant it was removed for those expansions. Not overall.

I see. Yeah i think this is like WoD Demonology. Theyre not going to develop it because they want to rework it but

  1. They never say it. Blizzard might have the worst comms team ive ever seen.

  2. The dwarves still have a racial for archeology. Either change it or make the profession relevant

  3. Shadowlands not having it - fine. That makes sense. But Dragonflight? It should have been worked FOR Dragonflight.

Literally both of the end-game zones added after the initial expansion launch completely revolved around collecting and assembling ancient artifacts.

no it doesn’t. Archaelogy could have saved SL’s story telling at this point.

They could/should have added it back for Korthia and ZM but it made no sense in the original zones.

Honestly I think the only people who enjoyed Archeology exist on the forums, it is a massively disliked system and that’s the real reason it doesn’t get attention.

I had an uncle who died. He was a historian. And i remember the priest saying “there is no history in heaven” which i thought was an obnoxious thing to say at the mans funeral.

But it may be why they didnt add anything for SL. What is history in the land of eternal death?

There’s clearly been history in SL, given that the light and void invaded it tens of thousands of years prior to 35 ADPO

I mean there’s a whole questline following a Broker who’s trying to dig up old secrets in a tower in Maldraxxus.

And another one in Bastion revolving around learning the history of a void incursion.

There’s more than enough there to work with if they’d wanted to. They just didn’t, and made up a lame excuse to justify it.

Arch is a neat idea but the “hot and cold” surveying mechanic is boring and tedious.

Much like how pet battles are a neat idea, but the actual pet battles themselves are boring beyond belief, since it’s 95% watching animations and only 5% gameplay.

(Which is why most pet battlers bot it with an addon.)

Sounds like a recipe handed on a silver platter to bots, frankly.

I like Archaeology in Legion. I liked the series of quests they had every other week, would have been nice to have more of them. And, of course, I liked the mount.

That’s exactly my point though, you aren’t uncovering new information you’re playing through an event told by people who were there, and are still around.

Archeology is about unearthing relics from lost/forgotten civilizations and trying to piece together history. In the Shadowlands you could just go ask somebody.

Now, if they ever revamp Archeology into more of a Historian/Lore master thing, then yea it would make sense.

oh and also

Absolutely not.
