Why is nothing that actually requires you to play your character profitable?

Get a job.

I recommend Mining.

Itā€™s kind of twofold, or two-sided:

  1. players who suck at gaming (majority, target audience( take it very personally if better/good players operate in the same sphere as them, so blizz tries to avoid rewarding good players so that bad payers feel better
  2. blizzard has some massive fragile ego and it becomes fatally wounded when they find out there are many better players out there playing their game and mastering it beyond what blizzard expected or planned on

Take up crafting? enchanting and alchemy still makes decent money. The other crafts are a hit or miss making gold now, dependent on work orders.

Iā€™ve made 1 million gold crafting so far this expansion.

I can buy a week of Groceries for 50$, and cook a single batch of Chicken Curry (As an example) for about $25 in total, including the cost of Chicken, Rice, Spices, Veggies and other items, which will give me 8-9 full meals at the average price of $3 a meal.

Meanwhile, getting a meal out at the ā€œcheapā€ places is minimum $16, for one meal. Sometimes they are big, and I can make it 2 with leftovers but not often. But even then thatā€™s $16 for 2, instead of $25 for eight. Even as a single person, it saves me a lot of money and Iā€™ve learned how to cook a lot of things that taste just as good.

Iā€™ll take $50 over about $200 for eating out, alone, for a week ^^

AH gameplay is gameplay.

This isnā€™t hard to understand. Power comes in many forms. Gold can be power too. ā€œBut max level pvp pve mythic delve ilvlā€. They play with gold. This is valid.

Calm down.

Short answer: because people play the game 14 hours a day so no instance that is ā€œrepeatableā€ is allowed to award anything.

Although if you go back to TBC, we were farming Mechanaar for badges to get raid loot. Not gold, but, it was farmable AND deterministic.

Now you canā€™t even get loot from the raid its self after you kill the boss. All my raid trinkets have come out of the vault, Spymasterā€™s on my Disc and Mandate on my Rogue.

You basically answered your own question. The mind numbing stuff that nobody wants to do is profitable because nobody wants to do it. If dungeons dropped saleable stuff as often you suggest, then:

1.) The price wouldnā€™t be that high on the AH; and
2.) people would just farm the dungeons for their own stuff instead of paying a lot of gold for yours.

Itā€™s really odd that this really just started recently. Once in a blue moon it used to happen, but now it can happen almost 40% of the time, or 0%. Just depends on the mood of the server shards, I guess?

I am making gold by doing my normal activities. Around 10k a day averaging it, although some days itā€™s 30k. I donā€™t waste my time farming, thatā€™s basically getting paid less than minimum wage to click rocks for hours.

I will not tell anyone how lol.

As a general tip though, a great way to ā€œearnā€ money is to reduce your expenses:

  • I was transmogging like 5 times a day beforeā€¦itā€™s not sustainable. Iā€™ll find a mog Iā€™m cool using for 4 days or so.

  • Stop dying and adding repair costs. If youā€™re in a raid or a delve or something and youā€™re doing to die, jump off a cliff to reduce repair costs.

  • Use cheaper consumables. The % increase in damage Iā€™m getting from higher tier consumables really wasnā€™t worth it. Iā€™m not a 1% raider, I stopped acting like it.

Boy are you missing out. This is exactly how selling boosts work. You get the gear and the rating to do the high end content, and then you sell runs! That is the best way to make gold.

So you want to be handed gold on top of the transmogs, mounts, and toys? Spoiled much? Nobody would be herbing or mining if killing rares made decent gold they would write a script and have bots follow it for days. Which would then lead to a disbalanced economy, i personally dont bot i farm gathering ive made close to 2 million gold selling herbs and ore. If i could make that rare spawn farming and getting everything else they drop id never gather again which would remove the 1000s of mats i put up in the AH weekly, making crafting mats price go up than crafting prices go up now your paying more for food, flasks, potions, enchants, craftable gear. Your method provides zero input into the economy and is all ā€œMe, Me, Meā€ so no your idea is terrible.

Actually, one thing thatā€™s pretty profitable now are the faction mats. If you farm Kej, for example, you can use it to buy cooking mats that sell for a lot of gold. Like the spider eggs that sell for 135 kej are going for 200-500g. You can easily farm a couple thousand gold running content in the spider zone for a few hours.

Iā€™m not the richest player on this game by far but I keep around 200-220k gold minimum on my main at all times and the only thing I do is mythics, raids, and the weekly quests available in dornogal. I spend probably close to 10k on repairs every week and buy flasks/food and somehow Iā€™m never negative at the end of the week. So ā€¦seems like you donā€™t have to go out of your way to at least break even. I donā€™t know why you would expect to be rich just by doing the bare minimim

What I wanna know is why does your character portrait looks like a knockoff Jafar from Aladdin.

While my fast food costs are about the same, my grocery bill is much, much higherā€¦ like 3x higher. So that will make a difference in our outcomes.

I have also found that I tend to waste more food when itā€™s cooked at home. Making a big pot of chili is great, but somehow (no matter how much I make) some of it goes to waste, which cuts into the cost effectiveness. Almost zero of my fast food goes to waste.

Also, if I go to a local chain (usually a Mexican place) and pay about $20 for a meal, I can often get 2 meals out of it.

All in all, it ends up nearly the same for me. When I cook at home itā€™s more because I want that particular dish than because I want to save money.

Cause itā€™s a Holy Paladin from Season of Discovery whose 6 piece set doesnā€™t include the helm. That and Classic characters always look goofy.

How is it 3x higher? Iā€™m curious.

Why should playing a game feel like a job? There is no reason to make anything in the game a chore.

I think I get what youā€™re saying. Are you saying you want some number of items to drop while youā€™re doing your day-to-day business and fun stuff that you can then sell on the AH?

If so, I get you. I do get some mats from doing Delves, even when I donā€™t gather myself. I only get like one or maybe two BOE drops. I got a recipe this week that sells for a good amount of loot. Iā€™ve gotten others before, but I donā€™t even check them I use them. Iā€™d say it is enough to sustain me, but not enough to go on a spending spree on the AH.

Thing is, if the supply of BOE items suddenly went up you wouldnā€™t be able to sell them for very much. If rares were not rare, same thing.

Itā€™s hard man but work on that. Portioning and meal prep. Especially if you like Mexican style dishes this is simple. Hard to get used to doing, but simple.

You can go from $10 a meal to $1. Put that money back in your pocket my man! Or cow. Man cow.

You deserve it.

EDIT: Iā€™m in that same club of figuring out how to control meals at home. So I get it.
