I mean lets be honest here. The forums are a cesspool of toxicity, there is nothing redeeming about this forum community here. Activision Blizzard has nothing redeeming about them currently especially with all the law suits and what they been doing to their female employees. And you want to say Twitch Streamers are worse or just as bad? Asmongold has better respect towards people than Activision Blizzard or the forums, if anything it would be a huge boon if someone like him was leading.
Of course with everyone blindly hating him cause “he hurt my feelings about the /spit emote” like its any worse than sharing a womans private parts till she offed her self or the forums trying to ban and silence anyone with a differing opinion.
Whoever they are, they certainly aren’t acting as a voice of the community. There are so many productive threads in the class forums that Blizzard - of course - ignores. The council has an opportunity to write class feedback that Blizzard might actually read… but they never take that opportunity.
The guy who encouraged his followers to spit on other players? The one who has had a HUGE and very public influence for years and has not really accomplished anything with regards to changing WoW? (That I know about but to be fair I don’t care for his streaming persona so don’t usually watch him.)
He, and other big influencers, have had private means to talk to Blizz for years. They have way more power than “gold text on a forum”. They have far more impact than the whole CC together will.
And what have they done? Will Blizzard really listen to anyone long term? We shall see. They have made some concessions and changes lately for the better, but long term is a whole different thing.
If the forums picked out their own representatives, it wouldn’t be that much less echochambery. GD has its own set of overrepresented interests not to mention problems with sockpuppeting.
This is not true. Several Blizzard developers came forward to him and agreed on almost all critic points he had, similar, how developers also engaged with BellularGaming.
It’s easy to say that person is toxic or what not but in the end the whole game system - wow - isn’t well thought out. Just look how they have handled feedback in the past. They’re only changing their act because their job will be on the line with the dwindling player numbers. Blizzard invited this toxicity by themselves and did nothing to keep the game clean. Their greed for money not only make them look a cartoon villain but they haven’t done enough to update the older content.
The past few changes are welcomed but they have to keep this up for years now before I take them seriously again.
Which backs my main point, the Devs already are hearing what the big influeners have to say. They have had direct input for years. Putting them on the CC would be redundant and take a spot from a much smaller normal-ish person.
That to be honest is sometimes how the story treat our characters doing dumb decision and silly quest lines, I would not be surprise if their are angry dev passive-aggressive Easter eggs to spite players! lol
You seem to misunderstand something, the “community” of wow is not a hive mind so it will have many disparate ideas about what is or is not good for the game.
The existence of the community counsel is not going to change anything, blizzard is going to do whatever they want and when it happens to line up with things the counsel brought up/ask for they might claim it is because of them.
It sounded like a good idea, right? A representative council of players? Finally Blizzard will listen to us? But developers aren’t going to invite their very best critics to the table. And the truth is that Blizzard’s best critics are largely gone.
Blizzard waited way too long. They were getting really spot-on feedback during WoD in these forums. They got quite a lot during Legion and the first half of BfA. But the company’s obvious design problems and REALLY bad attitude issues finally discouraged the smartest folks so much that they left or went silent.
The worst thing Blizzard has done, company-wide, is to just flush away a huge amount of player goodwill and the players’ willingness to promote Blizzard games. A too-late “Community Council” isn’t going to fix that.
Blizzard did some interviews for the next expansion but the council only received some threads on the forums, I was expecting some live chats with the council members as mentioned during the Community council video, Interviews with those players instead of content creators and media.
Also, the lack of replies from Blizzard on the community council for a lot of topics besides Dragonflight…there’s a good recent topic about legacy grinds, cosmetics…etc , there’s another post about topics that are good improvements for the game and not only for the next expansion being ignored.
Blizzard doesn’t like him so they won’t listen to him. Blizzard doesn’t listen to him because he hard criticizes the game and all they do wrong. Remember when many people were deeply outraged for the whole BC bundle mount thats where the whole spit on people with that mount came into play. At one point sometime in the past 5 years i don’t remember when Blizzard even said something among the lines of that its their video game and they will design it however they please.
Seeing how they ignore mass amounts of feedback until numbers of subscibers gets pretty low they put most of what every player wants on the last major patch of the expansion. Activision only cares about how long they can keep you subscribed and appleasing the share holders. They don’t care about pleasing the forums, the forum council, twitch streamers, or the players who pay for their game.
That would be a phenomenal waste of time, though. Most of the CC members do nothing, and those that do say anything haven’t impressed. There’s been zero discussion of anything I think is important, and what ideas there are about other things have been lackluster at best.
I’m actually close friends with someone on the CC. I won’t name her because you’ll all go on the offensive but she agrees with almost everything the player base wants to see changed and does her best to make her voice heard. The CC gets as much attention as we do. None.
