I unironically know of more people that have been banned for AFK’ing BGS than for buying gold, and I know A LOT more people that buy gold than afk BGS lol.

The only response is to nuke the entire bnet account from orbit with no second chances the instant you see it going down.

That will never happen of course and Id argue whats the point anyway - the players need to evolve, not the game or its enforcement practices.

When the chance at getting banned is less than 1% even the idiots aren’t getting banned. If blizzard was actually policing this it wouldn’t be hard to look at trade logs and see X player buys 2000g and then trades it straight to player Y. It’s not really rocket science.

I agree with you but I don’t have confidence it will happen.

blizzard is the one selling gold on 3rd party sites

based

and tru

It is bannable for the account that buys the gold or sells the gold. Once they drop it into a guild bank they can withdraw it anywhere, so because wow classic only requires a sub and not a game purchase they just pay an extra $15 for a gold buying account.

Speak for yourself. Not everyone is a lazy sh!t who buys gold FYI

Why would a company, whos interest in making money and the bottom line, not want players to play the game more. Players play the game more when they are having fun and if they have more gold they will play more, since they have more invested. IMO

It’s not a sanctioned practice, and people DO get in trouble. But only if they are caught. If you have some suggestions for how they can better detect gold in-game gold transfers that are real money purchased, I’m sure blizzard would love to hear your ideas.

yes, unfortunately all the business incentives are on the side of blizzard looking the other way when it comes to gold buying. it IS against the rules, and if you do it without being careful you WILL be suspended for X number of days, but curiously, blizzard never actually removes the gold from your account. hmmmm :expressionless:

“Everything is worth what its purchaser will pay for it.”

It is bannable but I imagine Blizzard arrived at the conclusion that the cure is more painful than the affliction years ago.

Because Blizz doesn’t want to send a message that buying gold is bad when it’s literally part of their business model in retail.

And I assume they’re going to throw the wow token into classic at some point .

Let’s be real here, if blizzard banned everyone who purchased gold they’d loose half their player base… It’s not profitable for blizzard to ban gold buyers.

It is bannable, I came back to the game after a long haitus and my guild had died and so i wanted to switch to Horde and leave alliance. However I had no funds on horde. I regrettably bought 100 gold just so i could get some bags/weapon training/ and have some cushion for the leveling process. Unlucky for me the game was pretty dead so i was an easy target. I got slapped with 20 day ban for buying 100 gold lol. It was my first offense so im not sure why it was so harsh when i hear of people getting 3 days on their first ban. Ive also never been banned before for anything so i was a bit shocked. Only thing i can think of is that my sub had 20 days left so they just banned me for the remainder of my sub. When i got logged back in they had taken all of the gold, they also took all the gold from my alliance toon and my flying mount (which was earned legit) It was a pretty harsh punishment over 100 gold, but they definitely do punish. Lesson learned.

Somewhere within the halls of Blizzard is a senior product manager that has been there too long and wields too much undeserved influence. This person (who should be fired) is able to manipulate bad decisions, such as not allowing higher levels to run lower level dungeons. Decisions like these prevent normal honest players from making gold (not to mention having fun) and serves only to promote gold farming. Adding insult to injury, while taking away the potential for honest revenue, Blizzard charges an insane $5k per toon for artisan flying. And let’s not even talk about the expense of crafting professions. Blizzard has setup an environment that requires much much gold but prevents any means of players achieving that without endless hours (weeks / months) of mindless grinding. This is why gold selling is popular. I sometimes wonder if there is some kickback this person gets in real life. I stopped playing for a long time and only came back for Classic. It is now no longer remotely like the original and thanks to this out of control power wielding incompetent PM, has also been ruined. At least I hope it is one PM and not indicative of an entire failed team. Hope springs eternal.

You will get banned for sure. Usually comes in waves. Doesn’t mean they catch every fish in the net every time. Some might slip though many many times. But it eventually happens. I wouldn’t doubt if they have metrics of how much how often before it happens.

that’s a pathetic thing to say, I hope your life improves lol
