I always tank on at least 3 of the tank roles but this season just feels bad.
Ran a few keys at the start of the season and felt like I was doing 20s. Just felt tired and haven’t tanked since

It’s true. Instanced content has always been the dad (the tank) and the mom (the healer) guiding their drooling children thru Disney Land.
“don’t wander too far billy…you’ll aggro Mickey.”
“YOU’RE GOING TOO SLOW! LEMME PULL FOR YOU!” -DPS
“YOU’RE GOING TOO FAST I CAN’T KEEP UP!” -Healer
“WTF TANK WHY DIDN’T YOU KEEP THREAT ON THAT!?” - DPS after pulling extra mobs
“TANK WTF ARE YOU DOING WE DON’T NEED THAT GROUP!” -Everyone if you pull something that can be skipped by crawling along a 2 inch wide fence
“TANK THAT AIN’T THE RIGHT WAY!!” -Everyone, if you should not know the way through a dungeon.
And of course…
“WHY AREN’T THERE ANY TANKS ANYMORE!?” -Everyone, after all the above.
i wouldnt even touch M+ with a 20 foot pole.
Im not that confident in my abilities as a tank. Even in normal dungeons ill wait until i have a few friends on my side before i attempt letting randoms see my poor tanking skills.
Id rather be a passable dps than the tank everyone is now hating on because i didnʻt perform up to thier standards
I love to tank but… I don’t like random people anymore.
It’s not tanking. It’s “pug” tanking. Tanking in guilds is probably just fine like it always is.
The trick is to treat dps players like mogged npcs
“Tank, you’re going the wrong way”
“Tank, you pulled extra”
“Tank, you are supposed to pull this”
“Tank, why aren’t we doing the skip?”
“Tank, we have a rogue, why didn’t we shroud?”
“Tank, we’re way over %”
“Tank, we’re way under %”
Honorable mentions:
“This tank lmao”
“New to the game, tank?”
“Tank clearly doesn’t know what to do”
“Tank, wtf?”
“some creative variation of k!ll yourself”
I rolled a bear tank in Remix and had fun. However in normals and heroics PUGs are so toxic that I won’t tank randoms anymore. It gets even worse in Mythics and raids.
In short…people are horrible and treat tanks like trash.
Seems like there’s common ground here. Everyone has trashed tanks to the point they can’t get tanks in their groups anymore.
Because you’re all jerk faces
I’d be happy to try tanking. But for whatever reason, Blizzard refuses to let shamans be tanks.
Yeah, I’d much rather tank in XIV, which I do on semi-regular basis.
Yeah, people want you to pull wall to wall over there, but other than that, you don’t have to worry about dungeon layouts, skippable mobs, etc.
Say what you will about linear dungeons, but I prefer that to what we have over here, where you have to try and remember the most optimal route to take, what groups can be skipped, how to skip them, etc.
Especially if you’re running back to a boss after a wipe.
All you gotta do is be an Earthen NPC to be a Shaman Tank, lol.
Or maybe Thrall. I bet one day Thrall’ll be a tank in some dungeon.
My take on the issue…
Well i am more of a follower than a leader! Its a big responsibility to… as is healing. I prefer to just dps stuff and follow!
However i do play Tanks And Healers while leveling out in the solo world. I have fun doing that. With these new NPC dungeons i generally switch to dps if im playing a healer, but ill run tank mode in those!! I know they wont yell at me if i mess up and they do pretty well even though im not the greatest!
I normally love tanking and have been doing it excursively for a long time but even I’m feeling stressed out. Despite pushing harder than I ever have weeks one and two even timing a +9 I fell behind the curve and am now stuck with people who consistently fail mechanics. I’m ok with people failing something but to drop your circle on the tank on the last boss of SoB and watch them fly into the water and than still do it to the party no less than 3 more times, finally wiping us by intentionally running on top of the tank healer and dps on the last platform killing us all.
On top of that I have very little control over my own survivability, its in the hands of the healer. I’m rolling cooldowns as much as possible and when I run out I get no externals and in some cases healers will just let me sit at 60% when there is an incoming tank buster that will hit for 80% of my health and there is nothing I can do but watch myself die because someone else failed.
I would also say I’m not sure I can take the massive damage spikes I’m seeing. In a +9 while going into a pack I am getting close to getting globaled before I can cast my first spell, which sucks because it means I need to be going into each pack wasting a major defensive in order to survive and now won’t have it for tank busters.
Finally despite getting some ilvl I feel no more powerful. If anything I feel weaker because the damage intake has spiked far more than the rewards. I’m in the +8 bracket nearly maxed out on crests yet again and yet I can’t get into +9 groups for the life of me which is what I really need to be running. Heck half the time I can’t even get into +8’s. The entire reward system feels off, and thats already getting me burnt out as well.
I started leveling another hunter last night and its so nice to just follow along and hit my dps rotation. I think maybe its time to set tanking aside already for a patch.
I just want to say though that people I’ve run with have been extremely kind over all and don’t rage for the most part. I haven’t had any issues with that.
It’s not tanking that’s a problem, it’s tanking for other people who seem to have a stick up their that’s the problem.
I want to tank when I want to tank.
Just like I want to DPS or heal when I want to DPS or heal.
Why do people act like there is some hard wall that separates them or other players from filling more than one role?
When you ask “why does no one want to tank” you’ll find an answer by asking yourself “why don’t I want to tank?”
Yeah it’s not the tanking, it’s the routes/mob count.
grain of salt since i havent played the latest round of dgs but, i think its prolly cuz people dont like having responsibility.
I mean cmon this is a video game we’re talking about, people dont wanna be responsible and lead things.
