-It’s fairly boring compared to the other roles.
-It’s a thankless job.
-People will mock you for not doing routes that other tanks do.
-Folks play this game for fun, and tanks just aren’t very much so, for many.
-They are kinda useless in PvP except in niche situations.
Gee I wonder.
Could it be the DPS that run off and pull for the tank at every opportunity?
Or the DPS that are too impatient for tanks to learn the dungeon and find their way through?
Or could it be the requirement for tanks to know routes by heart and deviation by even one pull will result in a ragequitting DPS?
I wonder why no one wants to tank.
it’s almost like it’s a self inflicted problem caused by community toxicity . . .
My main is a healer but sometimes tanks, my only other 80 is a tank. But what do you want me to do? I am but one person in a sea of DPS, when I choose to not heal I always always have people saying things like ‘you all don’t understand healer struggle’ ‘why does no one play healer’ etc etc, so I just go back to healing 95% of the time.
Ill tank when the pace is normalized. If M+ was Jailers Gauntlet, id tank tomorrow.
plenty of people play tanks, people don’t play tanks in pugs.
That should tell you there’s something wrong with pugs, not tanks/tanking.
They don’t feel cut out for the job, or are too nervous to try because of toxicity.
Yeah, exactly. Even the tank mains can answer the question. I’m a healer and I can list dozens of reasons people wouldn’t want to heal.
I don’t mind tanking at all, it’s just some people need to learn how to shut up.
Nothing fundamentally wrong with Tanking, more like something fundamentally wrong with some players.
Tanking itself isn’t really that hard, just the one role that requires a little more knowledge of the game and the mechanics / route of whatever content you’re doing.
It’s the players that will ruin tanking for people, ESPECIALLY in a PUG environment. Luckily I haven’t ran into anything so far on my tank which I’m doing only PUGs on, but it’s only a matter of time really.
I’ve definitely been a bit clueless this season
Yessir. If I had one tank for every post I’ve seen asking for tanks…well…I’d have a lot of tanks.
Thinking a bit more I think the patch cycles and extra events like the MoP remix thing made it so that I don’t get my normal down time. I’m consistently forced to be against a clock to collect limited time items anytime it would normally be my time to relax and run people through low keys and have fun.
Oh and two vaults in a row in the first two weeks without an upgrade has gotten me a bit down as well. Particularly seeing everyone else getting these massive upgrades that are pushing their ilvl to heights I can’t obtain. M+ now requires mythic raiding where in SL I could get by without it… I don’t want to mythic raid I hate it.
I know. I remember the City of Threads.
Good example though, to anyone reading. Vhx here had absolutely no clue how to kite the first boss of that dungeon and ultimately ruined the key. That boss is just not killable with bad pathing and a tank who doesn’t know what to do.
A learning experience you’ll surely improve on! At least the group was nice about it.
the same reason you don’t want to
Oh got yeah. Last time I did one was TWing. Blood DK comes in and proceeds to keep pulling everything in front of me then screaming at me when he dies. Other DPS and heals blamed me as well. I don’t tank pugs anymore.
Hey now! I’m pretty sure I ruined the key on the Twin Fangs
But yea, I definitely didn’t do Orator well.
Most people, myself included, have expressed that tanking for others in Mythic+ is a nightmare. Many players treat you as if you’re their personal tool, expecting you to go where they want and do what they say. Mistakes are not forgiven at all, especially in groups made up of guild members. It’s a very strict, stressful role, with immense pressure, yet the rewards are the same as everyone else’s, despite the significantly greater responsibility and the constant aggression from others.
This is especially true with DPS players, who often feel entitled to pull everything without considering your cooldowns, and they are the first to blame you when things go wrong.
In summary, this is why we are running out of tanks. We are treated with such disrespect that it makes the role undesirable. This issue is brought up every week: tanks expressing their frustration and DPS players with the mentality that they are in charge.
ngl, like 99% of the time i tank, everyones pretty forgiving and willing to go along with my pace. the one time i saw people pulling ahead of me was me doing the weekly bc timewalking with a friend back in shadowlands? for whatever reason everyone wanted to pull like 5 extra packs. Other than that, more often than not people say nothing even if i overpull and wipe us due to hubris. I’ll apologize for being stupidly overconfident and they’ll say its no big deal.
After doing more Follower dungeons than I want to count (best place to farm cloth by tailors) just let up to Heroics take a AI tank. Its the only one that actually does a really good job.
So Follower, Normal, heroic, and Timewalking can take AI tanks. That would solve a lot of problems and you cant scare it away from tanking by being toxic.
AI vote kicked me for pulling the entire first room in the distillery, true story.
There isn’t really anything fundamentally wrong with the role, its just the fact that not many tank players don’t like pugging and would rather run with a guild that is much more forgiving and provide constructive criticism to at least help their issues as opposed to being berated when a mistake is made and not providing anything of substance to help the tank.
