This would all be solved (from a player standpoint) if they just gave us the option to roll max level (or previous expansion max level) characters from the onset and forego prior expansion leveling altogether. I have a handful of lower level characters i play for funsies once in a while but not very long and I dgaf if they ever get to max level because I am just slowly going through the different zones.
This of course will never happen because then blizzsoft will lose a few dollars and their green line wont go up enough. I really wish yall would consider the shareholders just this once.
… hmm, that could very well be the answer. And a lot of the responses are definitely reinforcing that general attitude towards.
I guess it’s the net result of 20 years designing the game that way and most of the remaining players being those who prefer it that way.
I never used any, as they just exaggerated the problem… but yeah, I tried several different solutions and none really solved the issue for just how the content feels.
Best results were level-locking at 69.
No, it’s generally praised and said to be an essential part of the whole experience. Even if there are the slower parts that are a struggle, it’s needed for the payoff of the story at the end.
But I suppose there is a point about not having to repeat the MSQ just to play another class/job… but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t appreciated the first time, and players can choose to repeat it at their leisure.
I suspect that’s more your circle of contacts, but it’s not necessarily for everyone. Because if you can’t make it through ARR, the game doesn’t magically change into something else; it just gets better at what it was already doing.
Seems to be true, Blizz isn’t really bothering with that audience beyond assuming Classic is the solution.
When the destination (endgame in this case) is somewhere you don’t want to be, you want the scenic route to last as long as you enjoy it.
Take off your gear if you think it’s too fast. I’ve leveled characters naked before, have you?
Scaling should be removed. It was only added “because guild wars 2 has it”. (No, seriously, that was the ONLY reason ever given by the people who demanded it, back in Mists.)
I agree on this one. They need to take the highlights from each expansion and eliminate the rest - FOR NEW PLAYERS. (Of which you are not one, OP.)
I can safely say no, I haven’t gone that far… but I do see it being a fairly substantial problem with the way the scaling system works. The difficulty in WoW can quickly go from “feeling impossible” to “so easy I can do it in my sleep” in just a few item levels of difference. Intentionally putting yourself at the bottom end of that spectrum seems like a bit much.
Maybe more feasible for ranged classes with kiting (kind of creating a “no-hit run” sort of situation), but I see it falling apart for anything melee-related… and I tend to prefer melee in general.
Eh… yes and no.
The concept has some benefits… but the way Blizz has implemented it in WoW makes me yearn for the days it didn’t exist.
But what if I want to re-experience that? I see no harm in leaving the option open for veteran players.
And to address the points being raised by others concerning them preferring faster levelling – it’s possible to have this is an option. Heck, maybe make “accelerated leveling” an unlockable optional feature (perhaps after getting to level XX for the first time) rather than the default experience.
They don’t care about it because the large majority of WoW players that have been subbed for years and years have repeatedly showed them that they don’t care about the questing content and will skip all dialogue zip from a to b so they can hit max level ASAP and then AFK in SW or Org and then complain they have nothing to do and have no idea what is going on in the story.
its a 20 year old game that doesnt really get enough new people to justify any resources to be put into leveling. pretty much everyone is on their umpteenth alt. hell as far as leveling goes i am wowhead. i have all that info since ive done it so many times. the paid boost makes it impossible but ide rather just start a new alt and be at max level. your gonna get more playtime out of me if i can just gear up my 30th druid rather than have to level it up and then start the endgame which is the real game. ive probably deleted more alts than most people have ever made because ive hit cap so many times. im working on my evoker from remix atm which is my 3rd evoker. figured ill just have 1 for each spec. if i had to level him from scratch i would only have the 1
Kid, I’m 45 years old, but reading a novel on a game forum is not on my list. It’s easy enough to make your ideas clear without creating a wall of text.
Seeing other MMO’s like ESO and GW2 keeping their old content relevant throughout your time playing the game makes it look even worse. I’ve thought the same thing about letting 20 years worth of content collect dust, rather than spending the time and money to figure out scaling and letting you enjoy the content you want to enjoy.
But they’ve never been big on that, barring Cataclysm. But to this day I can’t help but think that Cata must have gone worse than anticipated, because they’ve largely left old zones untouched since.
all these bandaid fixes you mention is because the PLAYERS complained that leveling took too long so blizzard made it fast with no care for how it impacted the people who like to level.
There needs to be a brand new, new player experience from levels 1 - 20. Something that gently introduces all aspects of the game from basic fundamentals like quests, skills, talents and action bars. An introduction to professions and a beginner dungeon for everyone.
Someone once mentioned using class halls as a new player feature and that would be ok.
Then there needs to be an option to slow down the leveling process for players that want to take their time. Reduced xp and more difficult enemies.
These would be an option outside of the current leveling process so players can still go fast if they want to.
That would be a huge improvement on the 1-70 game.
I was leveling characters naked back before scaling was even in the game. WoW leveling has always been faceroll easy, that was part of its charm that attracted people from the beginning.
That was exactly what Blizzard thinks they did, with the new starter island. That’s a done deal in their books, they aren’t going to look at it again for another 15 years.
The problem, of course, is that the current dev team is terrible. Garbage in, garbage out.
