If the island intro is supposed to cover everything…
I’ve been playing for I don’t know how long now, and there are still things I’m learning.
I been playing off and on for the last 20 years and I learn something new every day about WoW. Prob why I still play it after 20 years and can’t quit coming back.
As tyler1 said. “I hate it, But im addicted”.
Hmm… that’s kind of a “chicken or the egg” question. Or statement, I suppose. A lot of players do rush to the level cap, and it’s been the case since Vanilla; but is it because they don’t want a strong leveling experience?
Or is it because the bias of WoW’s version of leveling being “no good” is so ingrained that they’re unwilling to take the time to find out?
That’s amusing, I’m going easy on it here.
I could easily be FAR more thorough.
I’m pretty sure that’s the point of Exile’s Reach (more like 1-15, but otherwise the same idea)… and it’s significantly worse that the majority of beginning starter zones, not to mention full of cringe-worthy writing.
It’s not a bad idea, but it’d be a band-aid solution. Getting a proper experience probably requires a more “curated” touch that may require more than just an XP multiplier. It might actually vary the rate to better line up with the story progression.
Hmm… I’m wondering if I should take what little time I have left to do a simple experiment with this, see what the results are. Got a small set of level-locked 69 alts (and other alts at various levels), just taking the gear off to see how it works out could give me an idea of how it feels.
But to follow up, let’s just get some details clear – namely, HOW naked are we talking here?
- Non-visible items like necklaces, rings and trinkets allowed?
- Weapons? None at all? Or limited quality ranges only?
- Or is it literally no equipment whatsoever?
Probably just enough time for one last experiment, so any details about how you approached it would be great.
no the island intro isn’t supposed to cover everything because it is for new players and if you throw everything at them at once they will run away suffering from overload.
WoW scratches an itch with its combat that I’ve never been able to find anywhere else. No idea what it is, but so long as they can keep the combat engaging, I’ll probably never quit.
Leveling isn’t fun its just mandatory busy work I have to do to get to the content I want the faster Blizzard makes it the better.
We literally asked for it to be fast.
I leveled like 3 jobs to 90 in Endwalker and honestly it was miserable. I hated it. I’m playing wow and not 14 right now so that should tell you something.
To the topic, I wish leveling was even faster.
They don’t want to waste a ton of resources on things that are going to be ultimately ignored.
Conversely, for the people who want it you have the “Stay a while and listen.” dialogues for extra lore bits and story beats. But if we are looking for intricate side quests that are long and arduous then we probably aren’t going to be seeing anything like that any time soon.
I would just level boost them at that point, job boosts are only 20 dollars compared to WoWs 60 dollar boost coins.
I quit XIV back at the end of Endwalker though because I just fell out of love with the community that resides in it.
I may go back but not for a while, I might wait for the next expansion.
You level so fast now it’s not worth the money.
prolly bc players dont care lol
The reason is alts, by the way. The incessant push to make alts more important and be at endgame faster and faster has led to leveling as a whole becoming completely worthless. Honestly, it really should just be deleted at this point, it serves no purpose other than to just be another chore to get through. Unless alt play is severely changed, leveling will continue to be awful.
The only reason a game like FF14 gets away with it is because the game is designed with the idea that the vast majority of players are only going to have one character, so in general you only have to do the leveling MSQ once and you’re done.
No one really cares! Its about endgame. There easy peezy
If the player is new to the game, everything is new content for them, not the current expansion only.
Wish it was faster. It’s a boring slog and I don’t feel like I’m actually playing the game until I hit max level and have my full toolkit available.
I’ve done the rigmarole enough times. It’s not fun or interesting anymore.
So, playing the same WQs/events, the same 8 dungeons and the same raid everyday is not boring for you?
At least, most of the old stuff, we played many years ago, making to revisit it enjoyable, like rewatch a classic movie of our childhood after many years. this is how i feel about it.
At max level I can reasonably apply to join any group/activity and have more options for play. I can also better run old content by myself and at a better pace for farming transmits and other drops.
At lower levels, my options for play are severely limited.
At max, I can do whatever I want with my time.
Really? I hadn’t considered that perspective so much, but I suppose it does have some value. Requiring a whole new character to play a different class, nevermind weird “early optimization strategies” (which character gets the best luck with drops, especially early on; I recall that being the case with Legion and being capped at the first four legendary drops for a short while) that can lead to people having multiple alts of the same class?
Yeah, there’s an incentive to make leveling fast… for players with that particular mindset.
For those who just want to re-experience the world, they’re kind of left in a lurch as we try to find ways to prevent what we want to experience while leveling being derailed by the rapid progression and broken scaling system.
They’ve solved one problem, but created five others in the process.
While this is true, there’s nothing from preventing a player from starting a new character and going through the story all over again.
There’s also the New Game Plus mode, but the complete removal of quest rewards means it’s not an option for leveling alt jobs. Needless to say, I think it could be tweaked a bit to make it another leveling option.
The issue is that steamrolling old content is boring.
And the collecting of transmog was done years ago… and probably not aided by the fact WoW’s options are generally lackluster compared to other games, engine limitations and all that.
There just isn’t much to get excited over collecting anymore, especially from farming old dungeons & raids.
Leveling content is far from irrelevant. Unlike WoW the FF devs can actually remember what they did an expansion ago and make previous events relevant to the ongoing story
