I think you mean…the players who actually made it through it and never have to do it again don’t say its irrelevant.
There are a lot of people that just give up once they realize what a drudge the MSQs are…
The clear alternative would be for them to significantly slow down leveling to make it “meaningful” as you alluded to in your OP. And that would be horrible…for most of us.
Leveling is something people generally see as a means to an end. In vanilla leveling felt more rewarding because well you only had 60 levels. But WoW is a 20 year old game. People want to hit max level to engage with the end game content like raids, etc. The thing is if you feel leveling is too fast? You can do things to negate that on your own. Turn off warmode. Don’t use any kind of XP buffs, etc.
The other factor is that there are now 10 expansions. Is it really reasonable to expect a new player to have to play through all that content? That is a pretty tall ask. People that are new and want to play with their friends probably are not going to want to play through all of that before they can join their friends in end game content.
There could perhaps be better signposting about narrative events for new players. But honestly that is also something they can get in a youtube video from Nobbel or someone that gives a rundown of all the major lore events.
I can attest to that. Realm Reborn and that bit of content between ARR and Heavensward was a bit of a slog. I still feel so far behind compared to where my friend is who is in the latest expansion and I feel like the content is so overwhelming that by the time I get through it all? My friend will have already cleared the end game content in the current expansion.
Because Blizzard has level 70 boosts on the game shop for $60. RPG is dead Blizzard doesn’t care as long as Blizzard can monetize the game and squeeze every last dollar from the players. This game isn’t about having fun anymore.
Sure thing, which is why there are purchasable skips for the MSQ up to the current expansion.
The players don’t complain cuz they can skip it, they also don’t complain because the game is not built for alts as you can do all jobs on one character.
I have no idea what the end goal is anymore. What are people playing for. Get to 80…must get to 80…now now faster faster. Enter dungeon warp factor 9.5. Engage. Was that a mob…who knows, ignore it. Boss is incoming oops level 11 gnome tripped and bumped into him. Boss dead hurry up why haven’t you requed yet. New wow leveling experience.
They even designed the new content with less main story quests so people had the option to not have to quest so much.
It’s an option that exists but is completely OPTIONAL. Lol nothing is stopping anybody from going back and reading the quests and enjoying the story.
The leveling part is expedited more for players who have max level characters so it doesn’t take so long to hop back into current stuff.
As somebody who spent most of their time leveling characters for at least 4 expansions I did like, I find their approach to leveling to be fine.
If somebody wanted to suggest a slower version be put in if you prefer that type of content at lower levels you could, but you could also freeze your exp at certain points and go through different zones.
Again that option exists. But you have to use it if you want that experience.
Run M+, Delves, Raids over and over like running on a endless treadmill. Waste 5 months on a legendary then repeat the cycle again on next expansion then repeat it again and again and again.
Get endless bad loot from Vault with all the wrong stats and now gives loot from wrong specs too. I’m getting tank gear as dps.
This game has no soul its been dead for awhile now.
They need to add a flip of the switch xp off, and on toggle while questing imo. Would be a good start. Instead of players constantly having to go back, and forth to a city hub to turn it off, and on. Give players a chance to experience the entire zone quests before out leveling it. Another revamp with new quests would also help. But don’t see that happening with all the hate they got with the revamp that came with the cataclysm.
This is part of the issue. Some reason level 11 is God mode for dungeon runs. Turn off getting experience at that point. Massive dungeon run pulls, 1 shot almost boss kills. Collect rewards. Experience is turned off for it because never leveled through dungeon. New exp farming on steroids
Leveling has always been viewed as a necessary but unwelcome chore by the majority of players. Once you’ve done it once, doing it again becomes an exercise in getting it over with as fast as possible. This has always been the case, since vanilla.
Ultimately it makes sense for them to dedicate their resources to making sure the current expansion’s leveling experience is good, not fine tuning the pre-cap leveling that most players want to get through as quickly as possible.
You want the deep, engrossing, smell all the roses leveling experience, Classic is -->.
That leveling experience is not practical for retail. The world is far to big, scaling makes a mess of leveling anyway, and nobody wants to put 200 hours into a toon just so they can now play a healer in their Heroic raid because the old one quit.
When they added level scaling into the game during Legion, it really broke things in my opinion. Chromie Time just exacerbates the brokenness. These days, I just look at leveling as a chore, then I finish any new zone quests and go back to “Collecting Mode.” Right now, I am looking at a lot of Shadowlands stuff that I didn’t get to when it was current. Haven’t decided whether to go backwards or not after that. Since it seems like I need 12 Billion anima to get everything, I might be here a while.
Worst thing they did to the game imo. Next to crz that is lol. Item level scaling was done so they could keep world quests somewhat relevant from content patch to patch. Probably why they should just revert back to having little daily hubs and just do away with the wq’s system. Of course, world content (leveling etc) has pretty much become an afterthought since Cata. For max level I wouldn’t mind them bringing back Legion type invasions, BFA faction assault type of things. Heck even DF with fryakk assault, time rifts, and surges were better than what we have currently. Maybe they will add some events like that in a future patch idk.
To be fair, if you buy the current xpack, you get a boost, new player or not. So even the new players are skipping all the old content now, at least on their 1st toon…unless they save it.
I have never understood people’s obsession with wanting slow leveling. Since the launch of TBC people have been asking for ways to bypass leveling as much as possible.
