Why do you care if my alt is better than your main?

But its not the same thing, which can cause replies that aren’t aimed at what you are actually talking about.

I am completely fine with the timegate aspect of essences being removed, and their being BoA type currencies for reps.

But that isn’t “account wide essences”.

Yeah, that’s kinda my point. I am not asking for Essences to be account bound. I am just saying that there’s nothing enhanced by them being individually bound to your characters. It doesn’t improve gameplay.

Power in M+ or raids shouldn’t be tied to pvp, WQs or rep.

I know you’re going to say “what about the gear in the past tied to exalted rep”. That became irrelevant after the first raid of the expansion.

Personally I dislike essences. I dislike the whole chase the best, whether it be gear or essences only to have them render moot the moment the next patch or expansion opens up.

Well this will open up some interesting avenues.

Does this mean power in PVP, WQs, or Rep shouldn’t be tied to M+ or Raids?

Or are M+ and Raids the only ones excused?

I don’t think pvp power should be tied to pve activities.

I don’t mind the gear grind. I don’t like essences either, or ap grinding.

I liked the simpler times when gear was just gear. You got it, popped a gem/enchant on and were done.

I am getting old, I guess.

AP grinding isn’t really a thing anymore. The only grind is basically essences.

I consider RNG a grind in a way as well. That’s what keeps you coming back, hope for that nice piece of loot.

Not this patch. Not like it was. But it was a very big thing for quite a while. Let’s hope it stays gone.

Sure. But as far as gear, there are so many ways gear is thrown at you right now it takes little time to get an alt caught up.

It took me 6 days to get a fresh 120 still wearing legion legendaries to 451 ilvl and 75 heart, with 5-6 basic rank 1 essences.

Even on my main I haven’t targeted AP to “grind” since the opening weeks of BFA.

Exactly. I found that mechanic much more satisfying as well and much easier to plan.

Was a lot of fun to experiment w/ different combinations. I don’t know why they had to deviate so drastically from that.

I suppose it is because I too and getting old.

Nope. I’m against account wide essences because character power isn’t account power. I’m all for more catch up mechanics, but I’m against account wide character power.

Actually it won’t, essences scale with versatility. At 340 they’d barely have any and their essence damage wouldn’t do anything.

They would have to tie all these essences/corruptions/azerite trait back into class passives, trinkets, talents. But each class always change a bunch almost every expansion and Blizzard already jumped in the hole of these “rental-abilities”.

Because they got rid of talent trees and needed things to replace them. It’s been my biggest complaint for awhile now, we need to stop having “Talent tree replacement mechanisms.” Essences are equivalent in power to the old end of tree talents that did amazing things.

That’s cool. I never targeted it either. I don’t like systems like that so I don’t heavily invest time in them. The other side of the coin though is that I was always behind my guildmates who were actively farming heart levels.

Yeah, but I never really fell behind. I am 82 or something now.

I just kept on participating in other areas of WoW. Doing my emissaries, IEs when I was after world vein, m+, raiding. The AP took care of itself.

Isn’t gear older than essences?

You basically said you’re willing to wait for power creeps X, Y, and Z, but not Q.

Good to know, but can you give us a reason what makes the grind for essences different from other forms of power creep that you listed?

You’re still ahead of me, lol.
