Why do tanks have such a big ego?

I think tanks have earned their right to ego since 85% of you are afraid of the responsibility and refuse to tank. It’s their dungeon you’re just along for the ride. You should be thankful you found a tank in your level bracket.

So you’re telling me that you’re on here crying about a level 30 dungeon tank? :joy:

Thought this was a post about slow tanks in general.

All I have to say is you may not need them now but you will if you want to do any relevant content.

Imagine a new tank seeing this post and deciding to DPS instead….People like you discourage people from tanking and cause tank shortages later on.

Bruh… you need some social skills and a chill pill.

Yes, at cap there are fewer tanks and more healers. At cap, I might be more willing to tolerate a tank the insisted on going slow for no reason.

The low-level dungeon is relevant to this discussion about tank egos however, because there’s no room for that when their role isn’t even needed at that level.

My social skills are fine. I’m not sucking off tanks in level 30 dungeons, though.

Yes, I am talking about the tank mentioned by the OP, because there is no reason to accommodate a control freak tank at that level. I don’t know where you got crying from.

The real question here is, was the group advertised as being an aoe xp farm group. If it was, the tank should have been on board. If not, then your expectations were unrealistic.
You’re complaining because someone isn’t playing they way you want them to.
Make your own group and let people know that you want fast aoe runs.

If it isnt needed then why even invite one in the first place?

It’s not relevant at all beyond being an example to create the discussion. No one needs a tank or a healer for the most part prior to TBC heroics, so what are you even saying?

Exactly what level is required?

Of course it’s relevant. At cap, players are more willing to tolerate tanks being ridiculous divas that need everything their way or they throw a fit. Not so in OP’s level range. Players should not take that crap.

That “you have no right to criticize a tank’s pace” is an absurd statement? That you don’t need to worship your SMGY tank to appease their little ego?

Good question. Wasn’t my group. I would certainly prefer not to have a tank than to have one that insists on going slowly in a level 30 dungeon.

At least 69 :smirk:

Is this the sacred “classic community” in action?

This is why people dont want to play a tank. They are expected to lead a group and end up bearing all the criticism. Too slow, too fast, undergeared, dont know the dungeon. If you dont like the pace bring your own tank. If the tank wants to play in a more classic way instead of a boost run style in Classic wow that seems ok to me.

Often a PUG group that wants to go faster and pull more keeps pushing until they go too far and wipe. I would be cautious also.

As someone who has tanked as pally quite a bit:

  1. Its not a 3 button spec

  2. If the majority of the group OR the healer want you to pull more at once, just try it. Worst thatbhappens is you all die and group realizes why you didnt pull more in the first place.

  3. If you are not comfortable speeding up the pace when asked to, you probably shouldnt roll a tank. Not because of some elitist notion, but because you are uncomfortable…which typicslly means you are not having fun.

LOL. You have never clearly tanked.

you know, you can reply to posts. or quote something. so that what you took time to write, actually can be read with context.

Why OP has dps brain sounds entirely like his issue. Sounds like tank was chillin playing how he wanted and it wasn’t good enough for him. If that’s the case then you tank. Not saying I tank like that I don’t. I like to speed run. However I agree with tank not OP. Some tanks suck some don’t.l get me wrong. However if he’s playing at a steady pace and not wiping you what’s the issue?

Id rather be in his group than in boosting style group pulls.
Was in sm cath runs and the tank was so geared we never stopped killing. The healer never had to drink or did so only few ticks. I had to swap between viper and hawk aspect constantly. My bear did more dps then me. I was 2nd place dps behind tank which doubled mine nearly.
Revenge is broken op.

I prefer to pull 2 packs at a time when I start out and if I see the healer or dps having trouble, I’ll slow it down.

Op, is the one with an ego, did you offer to supply mana pots and pay for repairs? Accept the fact that you alone destroyed the group because of your impatience and expecting a speed run.

I think it is important to remember that everyone has different level of skills in this game. I know people that have been playing since vanilla that aren’t what anyone would consider “good”, but they are happy. I also know people that play this game like its an Olympic competition and they need to win at all cost.

I can’t tell you where on that spectrum this tank fits, but I am willing to bet that this may be one of his(her) first attempt at tanking. Tanking may be “boring”, but it definitely takes some skill. Being able to manage the threat tables of multiple mobs can overload people at first, and they really can stress out about it. WotlK does make tanking dummy proof, but people that were learning to tank in BC may not know the new “easy mode” mechanics (even a paly that was pretty easy mode to begin with).

There may be other reasons too. When I tank I move as fast as the group allows me. I have macros and key binds for everything and can raid mark (when actually needed) the next pack while I’m actively tanking a pack. I have recently convinced my wife to start a toon and, despite not being a gamer, she is playing. We have level 32 druids at the moment and I am tanking while she heals. Getting DPS is as simple as announcing our intention to run. Because we are spending 90% of our play time in dungeons, our toons have great gear for their level. I first created a bunch of macro’s for her to heal, but she wasn’t getting it, so I got her healbot instead and that seems to be working. She still gets overloaded with things, for example, after pulling 1 pack I noticed her losing half her mana. I figured out she was constantly spamming rejuvenation (the instant cast HOT)… facepalm.

She still hasn’t figured out how to move the camera around in tight spaces and 50% of them she’ll get turned around. When we first did graveyard, after entering crypt, she got lost and couldn’t find where were I was tanking the final boss. When I was less than 50% life, and the boss was 75%, I realized why I wasn’t getting any heals and had to move the boss up a level. Im sure the casters were upset I line of sighted them, but I had to not wipe.

While I like to move fast and get my experience per hour up there, I have to take manageable chunks for her or we will wipe (and she will give up playing out of frustration). Not to mention sometimes I actually get up and go to her computer to help her in the middle of a dungeon.

I do try to explain to groups that this will occur, and I try to keep things moving, but I am sure some people would prefer to move faster.

TLDR: Everyone has varying amount of skill in this game.

P.S. She got her first HK last night =D

I had someone like you screaming at me to pull more, calling me names, pulling for me. But I noticed that if I pulled a little more than normal the healer would go completely oom so I refused to pull larger.

This shaman kept pulling for me so I pulled a massive trash pack and bubble hearthed.
