Why do people play on PVE servers?

I didnt read entire thread so pardon me if this has already been said.

I love wpvp, but I hate getting ganked/camped by someone 20 levels higher than me. If Blizz had just restricted pvp servers to flag toons to other toons who arent :skull::skull: then id strictly play pvp server and love it.

I play on PvE servers simply because I enjoy working on tedious rep grinds and I love to build up my professions. Getting ganked and watching my back constantly isn’t part of the fun for me.

I will have an alt I play on PvP servers though because I do think there is something to be enjoyed by going out in a dangerous world and having fun with PvP, but not as my main character that I will play for relaxing and enjoying the game.

Still laughing at this.

It’s funny seeing so many people that think PvP never happened on vanilla PvE servers. SS/TM still happened. Blackrock Mountain still happened. City/town raids still happened.

You know what didn’t happen? Rogues camping Redridge, STV, Stonetalon and Ashenvale. Well, maybe some people got baited into flagging, but you usually only made that mistake once.

Some people don’t have a whole lot of time to play, and PVP servers make it extremely hard to play sometime…

Want to level a bit before work? NOPE! Got bored 60s attacking your questing hub and ganking everyone in sight

Want to finish a quest before sleep? NOPE! Got someone ganking and camping your corpse and you can’t find anyone to help

World PVP is fun when you want to do it, but a lot of the time it’s broken and unfair, have fun taking 40+ Minutes completing a simple kill quest because multiple people are camping for fun.

I started on a pvp realm. The out and about running into another player and pvp sruff happens. Didnt even mind the other side teaming up to kill us. Forced us to team up to defend.

What i hated was the bored 60’s. Or the bored people in zones 20 or so levels below them. Not sure i would call those pvp since there was no chance to fight back. Was more like Pv0. Lowbies have very little to no chance vs bored max level chars.

It only got worse as the server aged. Was less WPvP and much more WPv0. Happens sometimes on PvE servers too (which i really dont get). Not sure why someone who is a PVP all-star spends so much time attacking toons half their level.

I was on Emerald Dream in TBC, almost no one raided on that server. There was I think one horde guild (who wasn’t much competition) and for a brief time two alliance guilds that we merged because neither of us could consistently fill raids.
Was on a different PvP server before and after that and tons of people would PvE and lots of PvP’ers.

12 weeks isn’t instant and if there aren’t enough people on the server and faction PvPing (probably unlikely, but still possible) you ain’t getting rank 14.

Yeah, at one point on Cenarius the Crossroads were being attacked by Alliance on such a regular basis you could almost set your watch by it. The fights weren’t as large as TM/SS, but they were big enough to make it interesting. Eventually enough Horde would turn up and drive the Alliance off and everyone would get back to the business of PvEing.

Thank you I try lol!

Because PvE is the playstyle for MMORPGs since the early days. A lot of games had PvP but few participated in it. EQ added a PvP server out of maybe 10.

WoW only had PvP servers and the ability to flag at launch despite the years of development. I mean I get it. Some people only play WoW for pet battles and PvPers are the same. You like WoW and dont want to play a game centered on the play style you like

Let me ask you. Why would you PvP in a game where PvP is a side game and not remotely close to balanced?

It’s not like you can’t PvP on a PvE server, you just do it when you feel like it. You can flag yourself whenever you want. People act like world PvP never happens on PvE servers. Dead wrong. Happens all the time.

Yea the difference is its not organic, spontaneous. Its planned. Pvers like to site ganking on pvp servers.

Ganking on pve servers is at times worse imo. Borde 60s have to go over to the other factions quest hubs and kill important npcs and stuff to bait players to get their mains. Or bother players trying to farm ore and herbs. Or when fishing.

On a pvp server this kind of thing rarely happens because you are always flagged. No need to engage in bizarre tactics, like in the above examples, to inflame the other faction.

Good on your for having such a positive outlook, but you’re still going to stopped from doing whatever until someone comes all the way from where ever they are to help you. Most raids and dungeons where level 60 players will be aren’t in low level zones. Most mats people will be farming won’t be in low level zones. I’m not going to ask people who are doing something important to stop what they are doing so I can go back to leveling.

I agree Perjery, that’s always everyone’s go to about pvp servers, just get help from your guildies. LMAO yea ok, your in Winterspring farming mats 30 min before raid and some new guy in STV needs help cause 2 bored 60’s are corpse camping him, what is he going to do? stop farming the mats he needs before raid and go help or keep farming mats and say you rolled on a pvp server bro deal with it? i’m guessing in real life option 2 is going to happen the most. So when people get tired of EXTREMELY LONG corpse runs cause there weren’t many graveyards back then, I wonder what pvp server pops will look like?

WoW wpvp 97% of the time is an uninteresting waste of time. Some higher level killing some lower level with no chance. When it is a good fight, it’s meaningless. Nobody gains anything. Nobody loses anything. The loser just returns to where he died and viola, he’s back as if nothing happened. When I want pvp, there are other games that do it much better.

Because being killed by other players sucks.

Being corpse camped by level 60s sucks.

I just want left alone.

Exactly this!

Because a lot of people still mouse click their entire rotation.

Imagine trying to have fun on a pvp server trying to click your way to the top…that’s a hard pass for them.

I don’t want to play on a pvp server because I don;t like to have it forced apon me while I have other things I want to do. If like some other games I’ve played where there was no option then fine I can live with it. But given the option to opt out and I’ll take it.
My decision has nothing to do with me as a person my strengths or weaknesses it’s simply preference.

The fun thing about PVE servers when it comes to pvp is watching a horde be at goldshire only to get hit by a guard and flagged then we get to killem.
Or, tricking someone into flagging thinking it’ll be a fair fight, only to be ambushed.
Or, to gank an unsuspecting flagged player who killed an NPC.

You see, the PVE realm brings with it pvp elements you just can’t really get from PVP realms. When pvp is not flagged it’s a sort of truce, if you will. You can befriend someone into thinking you’re cool. ONly to betray them. I can still go to the Strath Arena. i can still flag and other will when they see you and you can enjoy it at any time. I have choice, people on PVP realms do not.

The pvp on PVE realms is actually more interesting, and complex as it represents real world scenarios.
Pvp realms are just attack at any time, and that’s not very interesting to me. Getting camped when trying to pick herbs isn’t fun. Maybe for a streamer or a pvp guild.

PVE realms = game of thrones
PVP realms = left 4 dead spam. Near pointless killing.
