Why do people ignore FF14's issues?

yeah and the ff14 forums are pretty dead

Indeed.

I like FFXIV and even I am getting a bit tired of people making threads about it at this point.

I will say this. FFXIV is not perfect. It’s flaws are many and varied.

Is FFXIV superior to WoW? No
Is Wow superior to FFXIV? No

Both games have strengths and weaknesses and flaws and I will encourage anyone who wants to try FFXIV to try it. You may not like it, and that’s okay. It’s okay to try new things and it’s okay to not like those new things.

But please for the love of god, stop bringing it here already.

yes it is. ff14 lacks races and classes so play them all on one character.

free trial on FFXIV is terrible - can’t party up with friends to test it properly.

PVP is ridiculous too.

I actually noticed this too. People don’t complain aobut FFXIV’s real money store but they do about WoW… and I think it is because FFXIV keeps their real money store OUT of the game.

There’s no in-game ads for it, no big shiny ‘store’ button you can view in game, even on the launcher itself it’s a tiny button at the top with no fan-fare. They also don’t do a lot of external advertising for the stuff they have for sale. Occasionally they’ll run a banner ad or send an e-mail when they add something new, but it’s pretty low-key.

Whereas Blizzard’s is made to be as eye-catching as possible, to direct your attention to it and make sure you never forget - regardless of where you are in game or what you’re doing - that Blizzard wants your money.

As far as the content droughts, I think part of the reason the community doesn’t really comment on it is that the company is very open about it. They have been forthright about the covid delays, apologized, and the game’s producer openly says that he encourages players who get bored to stop their subscriptions for a bit and go play something else.

It’s amazing what a little humility and good communication can do to change the response to similar stimuli, isn’t it?

Because the mere mention of Final Fantasy in the topic title will immediately have me hitting the Mute button. This is a WoW forum and I’m fairly over all this FF inundation. For gawd sake, talk about something else! Anything else! I’d almost even take another High Elf thread…at least it would have the positive of being about WoW…

Literally the only reason I’m contemplating playing TBC or not is for WotLK Destro at the very least.

Most classes end at 30? …What? Most classes don’t really ‘start’ until 60.

My gear looks amazing without buying it from the shop.

Flying is flying, it’s a convenience and one that people would fight and die for in WoW if the ten-thousand Pathfinder topics were any hint.

Crafting is a time sink to nothing? …Looking at some of by best-in-slot gear, being crafted pieces, and the profits I’ve made from crafting.

Built to be played on a controller? Yeah, using 28 buttons, if my Black Mage hotbar is anything to go by.

The game does have issues, yes, but the ones the OP brought up aren’t really game-breakers. The ACTUAL issues with FF14 are:

  • Lower levels feel really, really bad, no oGCD buttons so everything is slow and most class features don’t kick in until 60~80.
  • Forced, linear progression. MSQ is great and all, but it drags on for eternity for new players trying to rush to the end.
  • PvP is non-existent, boring mess and plays like Tol Barad where the better mob wins.
  • Rotations are fixed and set by your class, deviation vastly effects your output.

Okay I see what is happening here… you’re looking at the base class skillsets and assuming that because there are no skills above level 30 they ‘end at 30’, but the reality is that every class has an advanced class called a ‘job’ that they progress to at level 30, which contains the rest of the skills.

To take the rest of the points:
There are some interesting looks from the store, but there are far far more available in game. Most of the most popular looks come from in-game either through drops or from the gold saucer(a minigame hub).

Flying means nothing? Not sure what you mean here… flying is awesome. You get to see the world in FFXIV from above, and you unlock flying in each zone as you progress through it rather than having to wait several months to get to actually experience it.

Crafting is an entirely separate game within FFXIV - with some people considering their crafting classes their ‘mains’, with their combat class just the job they switch to when they want to experience the story. Crafting is a time sink, but it has its own entire gameplay mechanics tied to it, and it can produce some really high level equipment and unique cosmetic items for houses/etc.

You can’t buy ‘everything’. You can buy a selection of cosmetic items, an optional story skip and the ability to automatically level jobs to a certain level. There are lots of things real money can’t buy - high item level gear, a house, etc.

He’s half right. The class itself ends when it becomes the job.

No. FF14 has two leveling paths. You have to do the Main Story Quests to unlock instanced content, and also level in your Job (e.g., class). You can progress both simultaneously, but if you just boost your Job to max level, you still have to do the storyline. Whereas the story skip is like Threads of Fate, except for previous expansions instead of the current one.

I don’t ignore the cons of FFXIV. I just feel the pros outweigh them by an order of magnitude.

WoW’s pros just don’t outweigh its cons enough for me to not be critical of it (at least as far as my tastes go).

Yep, basically.

I’ll add my own advice here:
I absolutely do not encourage anyone who tries it to ‘push through hoping it gets better’. The game is the game, and while it gets more complex at later levels due to additional abilities… the fundamental experience is there by the time you hit about level 30. If you don’t see enough good to make you interested in continuing the experience for its own sake by that point, you’re PROBABLY not going to like it later on.

yeah I wish the game had more responsive pvp. WoW pvp is just more fun to play (minus the ilvl disparity)

Think, if these are the controversial pain points of FF14…by comparison it might not be so bad…

People don’t ignore f14 issues. The forums are loaded with class redesign ideas everyday. The classes are boring because there are no talents and there’s no originality. With the ever increasing popularity of the game you get the worst players which is why I quit.

  1. The story
  2. The roulette system gives players a reason to revisit old content
  3. Crossover content with other FF games is mad nostalgia (I still remember the shivers I got the first time I fought Kefka, and the song during the final fight of the Tower from the Nier crossover is one of the best pieces of music in any game ever)
  4. Classes have very broad toolkits which makes you feel truly powerful.
  5. The races in FFXIV (almost) all look visually appealing and interesting
  6. Ability to play all classes on one character.
  7. The community is really welcoming to new players and actively encourages people to learn and get better.
  8. Stronger moderation policies weed out people incapable of treating others with respect over time.
  9. The game looks absolutely spectacular. I have hundreds of screenshots of ffxiv.
  10. The core story experience guides people through all forms of content, exposing people to the idea of group content of various sizes early, leading to people who are more comfortable raiding and generally good enough at their classes to not be a liability in a group.
And a bonus 11) The soundtrack, as a whole, is amazing.

I could go on if you’d like… but I expect you’re just trolling so you’ll probably cherry pick a few of the bullet points above to call ‘not legit good’ or something.

All your points are legit but you’re not addressing homogenization of classes especially tanks and the boring end game. Dailies and extra garbage isn’t the answer either. Let’s talk about glam. Glam is a nightmare.

link your ff14 toon lets see those so call jobs you play and ill show you which didnt start at lv1 or ended at 30

Glam plates and being able to glam individual pieces is fine but

  1. Would love to be able to use plates outside of cities
  2. We need far more room to collect glam things.
