In WoW, currently, you either have Torghast, covenant dailies, Raids, or Mythic to have to deal with in order to have any sort of sense of progression. Going back to old content is pointless because you’re way over-leveled for much of it and they’re not at all balanced to be played at level 60. Most of them can be run through by just one person.
Meanwhile in FFXIV I have; the MSQ whenever a new major patch releases, leveling all classes to 80 on a single character, Southern Bojzha Front to farm my Relic Weapons for every class, Beast Tribe dailies for mostly-cosmetic rewards, Glamour collecting, Gold Saucer, Ishgard Restoration (which is mostly complete, now, given it’s the end of the expansion), my daily content Roulettes, the Alliance Raids (the story-focused content that are 24-players)–in which I can either go through the Crystal Tower, the FF: Tactics setting, or the NieR setting; and if I want a bit more of a challenge and Savage just isn’t cutting it for me, there’s the Extreme difficulty 8-man content for the best rewards. EDIT: And to top it all off, I get scaled down to the appropriate level so that running through said content, while quicker, is still somewhat of a challenge, which opens the door for even more content that remains somewhat relevant even long after it should be obsolete.
And at the very least, while the developers do want people playing their game they understand that the content can be consumed quicker than a person has time for a month, and so respects that time by encouraging people to take breaks once they’ve exhausted everything they want to do.
That, to me, is the biggest difference. WoW is built with system upon system designed to hold your subscription longer. FFXIV respects your time and even encourages you to take a break until the next content patch comes out.
I think the context of how you went about it matters.
Which is more likely? That you what you say is true, and you got banned for something I regularly do when helping sprouts? Or that you lost your temper wiping and acted in such a way that netted you that suspension?
Somehow, the latter seems way more plausible to me.
THIS is why retail WoW feels so bad! I hadn’t been able to put my finger on it.
I’m also much more comfortable in pugs in FFXIV. People play like we did back in OG TBC. They laugh off a wipe and try again. WoW would be vastly improved with FFXIV’s level of chat moderation.
People ignore FF14’s issues because if they were to acknowledge them, they would have to also acknowledge that FF14 isn’t the WoW-killer they think it to be.
It wasnt the wow killer in the past but its been steadily improving while WOW retail devs try to find themselves and the games purpose. Clearly the wow community is tired of Ions reinvent the wheel treadmills, no matter how cleverly packaged they are. So people are now pushing a game thats doing well, that has a positive community&dev relationship and has been consistently releasing good content…which hasnt happened in wow for a while. FFXIV has plenty of flaws dont get me wrong, but its in a far better place than wow is right now. FFXIV knows exactly what it is, what its community wants, and can deliver.
I think we’re all long past looking for a “wow killer”. I think people just want an mmo that’s not bogged down by systems and pointless gating and treadmilling.
I downloaded the free trial out of curiosity and have leveled a Lancer up to 11. So only a little ways into it, but it’s fun for me. Very different than WoW, though.
I’m not unsubbing from WoW for it but I can see playing them both.
There has been very little innovation in the MMORPG space for years.
In fairness, Blizzard is trying to bring us something other than quest, level, gear up, pvp or raid. The interesting thing is that so many people went back to Classic and now TBC Classic for exactly that gameplay.
Thats awesome you never had that problem apparently! I did and the game world felt so lonely and empty. Like I said we all have different experiences. But there are some recurring themes if one does some looking.
I dont know how its possible for FFXIV to feel lonely. As a bard, I have to sometimes spend a long time to find an isolated place to practice my music so as not to disturb others.
Imagine getting the same race multiple times over and over again behind expansions and making this equitable. Gnome? WHAT ABOUT MECHAGNOMES? Lets reskin both of the elves and put them on the opposing faction. I mean. You tried. But wow isn’t any better for this. I mean when the two gendered versions come out next expac they’ll be unique. And there is no such thing as a faction lock. So anyone can pick what they want and play with their friends. So there is that too.
I don’t think they are ignored. But, this is a WoW forum. People bringing up FFXIV are doing so because of a displeasure they currently have with WoW. So, they are not going to usually grab onto the negatives. In addition, shared negatives can cancel each other out. Whatever is different is what you have left to compare. At the moment, FFXIV is ticking a lot of those boxes for a better experience. My main issue with WoW right now, and the reason I have let my sub lapse for the first time in 10 plus years, is that there is nothing in the game I care about doing right now. For me, it really is just playing because I was used to playing. I am trying different games now. FFXIV, Valheim, POE, etc. FFXIV def. does a lot of things better than WoW right now. That can always change of course.
Well of course people complaining here will seem more negative than maybe reality thats natural. Yes FFXIV has issues and isnt perfect by a long shot.
Right now id much rather be a FFXIV fan vs someone stuck here defending wow after its like 6th disappointing expansion in a row. Things are way more positive over there, developers are on the same side as the community, they are releasing extremely good content, players are getting what they want.
Id be jealous if i was a die hard wow fan defending the forums…absolutely.
