Not really, its more of a cutscene based game where you follow a very linear story. The first 60hr or so are no longer voiced over and its rough, id 100% advise skipping to heavensward or later as the story drastically improves. It has flashier and more fun focused endgame instances, still sweaty but you usually wont be standing there clueless what to do without a degree.
Its a more modern, very final fantasy type game. It has its flaws. Developers seem excited to do things the community wants in game so the atmosphere between the community and company is far better than here.
Like i dont believe their devs loathe and hate classic wow or traditonal mmorpgs like i feel the current game leadership might.
I haven’t met anywhere near as many toxic people as I hear about here and on reddit so I can’t speak from experience there. I can openly say I’ve met 4 and they all just got ignored and I went on with my life.
I don’t care about putting it in a negative light. If you want to discuss actual negatives of the game and things they could improve? I’m more than willing.
But don’t blame the game because you’re salty you got suspended for being a jerk lol.
For those with loremaster, this may be true - on that character - but there are still thousands of quests spread across many zones that can be completed at max level if for no other reason than achievement hunting, seeing the story, immersing one’s self in the world etc.
If the contention is that there are no meaningful quests after max level, because they reward a paltry amount of coin, I see that, but you can still quest if there isn’t any immediate reward.
And I suppose if the main goal for doing activities is for the reward, that may be a good reason not to quest after max level, too.
Not that bizarre when you think about it. We (unfortunately I’m a part of it) are the trophy generation. People haven’t been taught how to deal with disappointment and failure for so long, they seem to radiate the idea that their opinions are needed. Add into that the fearlessness of the internet shield, and you get bad behavior from people that know better (or should), with nothing better to do. The worst part is, the normal people (probably not part of that group) are all silent, doing what they enjoy, instead of crapping on what they don’t.
I’ve yet to be in a pug that didn’t start and end with those things. It’s pretty common. Then again I’ve never experienced this rampant toxic community in WOW that some have talked about. I’ve had to deal with the occasional a-hole from time to time, but that’s in every game. Not even close to the norm.
It’s my experience that if someone is seeing toxic behavior everywhere they go then it’s usually a personal problem rather than a community one.
I feel bad for them honestly, it mustn’t be a very nice way to live your life.
I can’t imagine getting as worked up as some of the posters on this forum get.
I enjoy the parts of the game I like, and I don’t play the parts I don’t like. If that means missing out on player power (in my case sockets, i cbf with venari) then so be it
Some people I think are just passionate about the game, that’s great. Some people are just angry people which isn’t a good way to go about your life. This is gaming, if gaming isn’t fun, why bother?
Locking it behind an expansion and just being late on developing it are two different things. Male Viera and female Hrothgar would be accessible without the expansion once they were done.
The expectation, of course, is that you have the expansion already by the time they’re released.
Why do people ignore WoW’s issues? More and more systems, systems that invalidate previous systems just one patch later, and borrowed power are not a lasting recipe for success.
Nor is spiteful tedious design meant to punish paying customers for playing their game, like some kind of weird dominatrix in corporate form.
Their main issue is you only get 5 bosses a raid tier if you include the EX fight. Your average group, will beat savage in maybe 5 weeks or so. FF takes maybe 8 weeks of farming the raid to get BiS then you are done with the game for quite awhile. You have to keep yourself entertained with the non raid content, housing, crafting, mini games, exploration events, relic weapons.
It is also a lot easier to beat savage in FFXIV than it is to beat Mythic in WoW. Probably cause its only 8 people and in WoW its 20 so its a lot harder to get 20 people vs 8.
Look it’s beyond obsession each player bases are trolling both websites and u even have weebs trolling asmongold as to when he will be playing FF14. I mean it’s pot calling kettle black.
Because we held blizzard to a higher standard once.
I like ff14, ive been playing it a lot the past week completely solo, grinding for my relic gunblade, which, if you don’t know, is a weapon for the gunbreaker job. All classes have a relic weapon that you can power up through a set of grinding quests. The point im at requires spamming 36, 24mans, and runs the gambit of being mind-numbingly easy, to a total chore depending if your group knows the boss fights or not. Believe me. I see the flaws, I see the short comings, with the game. it’s just very much catered to a very different sort of crowd than wow is.
But you know… for the shortcomings the game has, its still pretty enjoyable. I like the story, most of the trials(single boss fight dungeons, think onyxia) are a lot of fun, and dont feel like im on an endless treadmill. Theres clearly defined stopping points and I don’t feel like I ever fall behind ever because of the lack of unnecessary gating. If I want to grind all 36 raids in 1 day for my relic, im empowered to do so.
The tldr of it all is pretty simple. They’re two completely different games run by different teams.
And more importantly - those tiers of difficulty are merely one activity you can participate in. The entire game isn’t designed to funnel you into that specific content. There are different activities that are ends unto themselves, which is a difficult concept to grasp if modern WoW is your only point of reference.
