Why do people hate "reforging stats." MOP style?

People were leaving raid pugs though, hearthing out and asking for a summon back just to reforge 200 crit into 120 crit and 80 haste…

Yeah no that isn’t worth holding people up for

the only reason to use the calculator was that hit and expertise had zero value beyond the cap. that’s not the case with any secondary stats anymore, so there’s no reason to care that much

and now they’re doing the exact same thing for enchants, gems, etc.

“oh but the auction house mount!” yes, and there was a reforge mount in MoP too.

Wasn’t reforging a Cata thing

Some enchants can have a significant dps impact, how much would you gain right now if you reforged all of your eligible gear?

Go ahead, drop 40% or whatever and add 40% of whatever and tell me how much that difference makes… I’ll wait. Then tell me you think a .05% increase is worth an system being brought back.

As someone said above reforging was only useful and necessary before because people could reforge up to hit cap or drop hit once above the cap

you’re awfully sassy about small gains for somebody who spent time and gold putting an extra 130 haste on your rings

God, I wish they would bring back reforging. People can downplay it all they want - optimization matters, and reforging added a whole new angle people interested in it had take into account when doing their calculations. It was a lot of fun.

The people who hate reforging are the ones who benefit from the present system.

First, it wasn’t that much and second I put them on with a system already in the game.

Reforging doesn’t need to return for it. And if enchanting was removed tomorrow it wouldn’t bother me except it’s a profession. Same for jeweler

I’ll keep asking and it’s very telling that people ignore the question because they know it doesn’t matter.

Go run a sim, then pretend to drop 40% of your worst stat and add 40% of the best. Tell me your dps difference.

then why did you bother enchanting your rings with 130 haste? that makes no difference, you said it yourself. why waste gold?

because you know perfectly well that small incremental gains are part of what people enjoy about this game.

Because I’m OCD, and if reforge was in the game I would use it. I just don’t think we need it. As if getting gear, enchanting, gemming, upgrading it isn’t enough you want to add another step?

And for what? If hit and expertise were around I’d be all for reforging but they’re gone.

If you aren’t juggling breakpoints for things then reforging isn’t needed. If you want a cloak with haste and not verse then go farm a cloak with haste and not verse. If a cloak with the stats you want doesn’t exist, write an angry letter to your congressperson.

The only thing a Brewmaster gets out of Haste is a microscopic increase to auto-attack speed and like a hundredth of a second off the Keg Smash cooldown.

It doesn’t lower the cd of Blackout Kick, and it doesn’t even reduce our GCD like it does for everyone else.

I miss reforge so much, though you can now catalyst pieces like boots, belt etc and see if there’s a better stat available from that

You don’t have to sell it to me, I’m already in.

If the difference is so small then why do you care if others want to use it?

I can’t control what’s in the vault, but with reforging I could make those undesirable pieces passable.

Because it would require resources, take time away from other parts of the game and just create another possibility of bugs.

Would some people like it yes, but that doesn’t mean it’s worth the effort to put it back in the game.

The reason people didn’t like it is two fold.

  1. You’d get a piece of loot from whatever content you were running, but you couldn’t equip it right away (despite winning it and it being an upgrade) because you needed to go back and reforge the stats first. That never felt good.
  2. Even if you did reforge it, it would never be as good as a piece of gear that had your BiS stats on it, and you’d always have a portion of the horrible stat you were forging still on the gear as reforging was never a 1/1 change.

The first reason is why Blizzard ultimately scrapped the system, and why it is likely never making a return.

Cause everybody who did it back in the day knew it was annoying that the process of equipping an upgrade was:

  1. Get loot
  2. Hearth from the raid while the rest of the group does trash
  3. Load your character into a sim and let it calculate
  4. Unforge ALL your other gear
  5. Reforge ALL gear to get the perfect stat makeup from your sim
  6. Complain in chat that nobody has summoned them back to the raid
  7. Going AFK to eat chicken after getting summoned back (okay this one didn’t really happen, they went AFK for other reasons but still)
