Why do people defend pathfinder?

As an altaholic it’s great.

Wish I could unlock Pathfinder in all pre WoD expansions so I don’t have to buy flying anymore.

Well, that was the situation in Warlords of Draenor. They removed flight. It wasn’t going to return. They only to added it back with Pathfinder after customer outcry.

Why can’t pathfinder (account wide) coexist with a gold sink, if the gold sink is per character?

Imma throw this down one more time today.

  1. No flying until max level.
  2. Questline based unlock, possibly behind 1 rep/system (covenants would be perfect for this).
  3. A few weeks after max level you can fly.

Storyline crafting can be done better than with flying, the wait and time gating isn’t absurd for no reason. Everyone wins, no one loses, all good, no bad.

I defend a lot of things in this game but the following I will not defend:

  1. Pathfinder rep grinds and delayed implementation. Ridiculous, period.
  2. Allied race rep grinds. I don’t have a beef with the exalted part, but the limited availability of rep and their time gate are what I have a problem with. What if somebody wants to play an Allied race and hasn’t played the game in a while? They have to go back to old content and grind out something that’s time gated? Trash, IMO. Should be able to be grinded for as long as somebody wants to go at it, no restrictions.

Oh so you mean that was their decision and had to reverse it within 3 weeks because if they didn’t it would tank the game therefore not making it a viable option for them at all?

There is absolutely such a thing as grinding. Grinding is killing mobs for hours on end for some purpose, be it drops, craftables, reputation, XP, gold, whatever. That has always been the definition of grinding. What you’ve described is not that.

You guys have made a habit of adopting a word with a known negative connotation and changing its definition willy-nilly in order to try and make the thing you don’t like sound as bad as possible.

I can’t just decide some day that I’m going to stop calling bagels bagels and instead call them calves’ liver because calves liver is terrible and I want everyone else to think bagels are as terrible as I do. That’s not how language works.

Well, out of the 10 ou get 8 to exalted throughout the year without even grinding.

So the proper wording would be daily time gated logging. Which (in my opinion) is much worse than grinding.

Except Wpvp is pretty much dead and it always was, they thought without flying it would revive, but without any people left you cant gank anyone. No real rewards or motivation to pvp since honor titles have been dead since 2006…
Or just ask the Classic folks why the majority of pvprs will quit their jobs coming November 12 the day phase 2 will be out along with pvp ranks. That is the only other aspect that interested a lot of pvprs: titles and fame.
Classic could have flying on Nov 12, yet nobody will be flying because everyone will be hunting each other for honor.
Current wow has nothing of that for wpvp and thus the excuse of Flying killed Wpvp is no longer valid. the proof is what totally killed wpvp is arenas and rbgs because thats where the candy is and thats where the candy was moved from Honor titles in vanilla to arenas in tbc.
Whats the point of ganking someone when there is no incentive or reward, those incentives rewards were moved to Arenas rbgs, ask yourself right now

Pretty much this. I don’t care whether flight is in the game or not. I don’t mind Pathfinder because I don’t have to go out of my way to get it, and it lets me spend my gold on other things.

this one gets it. have a juice box little elf

on topic the wait is ridiculous but it is what it is the alternative is no flying at all

How is this going to work in Shadowlands? Go back to legion and then go back to BFA to grind out what exactly?

This is the bind Blizzard put themselves in with sloppy design.

Ya’ll are wondering why people defend path finder.

I’m over here wondering why people defend flying.

I’d rather get it through playing the game normally and have it unlocked account wide than spend who knows how many hundreds of thousands of gold to buy it on all of them.

I don’t mind the wait because I don’t spend every minute of every day in WoW concerned with having the ability to fly. I just play the game and at some point, I’ll get flight. I don’t care if I don’t have it now. Because I have far bigger things to worry about than whether or not I’m in the air in a freaking video game.

No one’s attacking accountbound flight skills though. Attacking the time gating always brings out a chorus of “muh compromise”, so the OP poses a good question: what’s the motivation of THAT crowd?

No but by the time mists hit I was feeling like the open world stuff w/ daily quest hubs was feeling empty and I couldn’t articulate why I felt that way at the time.

Landing right next to the mob you need to kill then lifting off and ignoring everything in the world until you reach the next mob you need to kill will do that.

I get that being grounded is more “time consuming”, but I do not feel that empty feeling I used to have. I actually feel like I am interacting with the game world as opposed to skipping over 99% of it.

I have five accounts with more than 50 alts who are 110 or higher.

I love flying and I have plenty of gold. I like Pathfinder, because content should be experienced from the ground at least once before we can fly over it.

That it does.

Because I like Pathfinder.
