Why do people act like the game is a race?

In my experience, it’s just degen behavior. It’s like a glutton trying to steam roll through a 5 course meal like a mukbang or something, they have no reason for it, they’re just doing it out of a hunger.

Some of it is competition too. They wanna be the most geared person in the guild first for whatever reason, usually to feel good on the meter. Also people who aren’t very good will use gear dominance to compete with their friends, it’s lame but I have some guildies who are like that.

You also have people linking random crap they crafted even though it’s going to be replaced instantly lol. There’s a bragging element to it also.

Basically everything wrong with humans, gluttony, unwarranted competition (you have no idea they are secretly competing against you), stuff like that.

Or I just want to have an easier time progressing in the content I actually enjoy when it eventually comes out.

Aka rush into everything. The content isn’t going anywhere.

Well, if it’s anything like Dragonflight, we have to consume it fast because Blizz drops in whole new swathes of content very often. I play every day and there’s stuff in Dragonflight I didn’t even touch. It feels so weird to complain that a game has too much content or too much content is added too often, but… yeah.

Idk the opportunity to progress mythic kinda is.

Unless you know of a guild that prides itself on starting the tier a month after it opens.

Well if it takes you til the 17th to get ready, then that’s a skill issue.

It doesn’t, but it did take me about 5 hours. After I’d done sojourner to see the storylines.

Not really sure I could drag 5 hours out over a week if I tried.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to have time to do other things. I just feel it’s odd to call it rushing when it didn’t take very long in the first place…

People have been conditioned to be hyper competitive even when they have no prospect of competing in a meaningful way. The sadder part is, they do it at their own expense, complaining how unfun it is to play the game in an unfun way. When all they gotta do is adjust and play the game in a way they enjoy in the longterm.

Thats why you have elitist casuals infesting every aspect of this game, people who couldnt do heroic raids without weak auras playing the game for them but then insta kicking and being toxic towards anyone wanting to learn the game organically or take .5 more seconds to orient themselves through end game content.

And its nothing new. It just changes form over the years. But once the novelty of playing online and with other people socially wore off early 2010s, and esports became all the thrill, it’s taken over every outward facing facet of the game. And most online games for that matter. And you can even see it in single player games these days.

Cause if you don’t exploit now, you can’t exploit later.

I love M+. It’s my primary endgame.

However, I’m glad they gave us this time cause I feel like there’s so much for us to do and I have all the time to stay a while and listen, read quests, etc.

I’m quite a fan of how much time we have until release.

That said, buff valor stones.

And this is the root cause of so many problems in modern gaming.

The good news is that if you can self reflect and find what really brings you enjoyment in gaming, you can go for that and theres an abundance of good times to be had.

Gaming has never been better (in some ways). But gamers have never been worse than now and there are more pitfalls than ever.

Gaming has never been better if you never cared about gaming in the first place. It REALLY irritates me when people say this.

If you actually care about the games as more than just a way to waste time, then gaming is awful for the last 10-15ish years. Any semblance of passion in the industry died, replaced by greed and massive egos. Studios are traded around, devs are fired or limited in what they can do, giant companies like Tencent swoop in and get their fingers in everything, and gaming is just a husk of what it used to be. It’s not the same gaming I grew up in, when it was BY nerds and FOR nerds, now it’s just another main stream money maker.

Plus, devs don’t push boundaries anymore, they just do what’s safe, or they recreate games from their childhood but “better,” or they just release easy money makers.

Sure, good games exist, but they come once a year if even that often. And games I used to love, like WoW, are just a laughable imitation at best. GC literally quit his job because of what Activision was telling him to do, where Ion is more than happy to do whatever he’s told, even if it’s detrimental to the game – and so is everyone still working at Blizzard.

So no, gaming is not better than ever, it’s on its last legs.

Why do people act like the game is a race?

Because some people like to be racist.

Haha!
Get it?

I’ll see myself out.

Oh it was still a major pain even before Activision took over but you’re right that it got x10 worse afterwards. Although now that Microsoft took over Activision and nothing changed you could argue that maybe they weren’t the reason after all and it was the devs’ idea all along.

Because traditional players were called too “casual” and their wants for game/ life balance ignored to cater to attention deficit tablet babies who need RUSH RUSH RUSH content and systems demanding 20-30 hr playweeks

While said tablet babies are also saying things used to be “better” in classic modes, more hardcore…

Why is it there’s a scarcity of classic players/ content creators over 40 and they’re all looking like they’d have been in diapers 20 years ago? Doesn’t make sense.

I don’t want classic and i don’t want to pve in mythic. And PvP is only tolerable now there’s no 20hr weekly pve grind anymore for borrowed power .

Blizz has catered to the lowest denominator for past 8 years constantly grinding its players

I always get a chuckle out of people that view M+ as their primary end game.

It’s because the more people you keep from running away from the pack early, the less problems you have with the economy, with PVP, with vote kicks in dungeons etc… It’s just part of smoothing the experience for as many as possible.

What else would it be? Raids are nothing more but weak aurora boss fights now.
