The horns and scales (not to mention the several bright non-human/blood elf hair colors) of the visage form signal it is not actually a human or blood elf so the idea of protection thru camouflage or imitation is out.
The soft human/blood elf skin makes it squishier than the scaly dracthyr skin.
The dracthyr version is certainly scarier and more threatening than the visage form in order to scare off a potential adversary from attacking.
The dracthyr version is also more dangerous as it can, at the least, fly and breath fire in case of attack.
To protect them from not being able to fit in with the rest of azeroths inhabitants and not draw uneccessary attention from the local population and avoid being preyed upon to extinction for what they truly are. Their visage form is more like an arcane augmented disguise and not an exact physical transfiguration of their musculoskeletal structure.
Seems like everyone here clearly doesnt understand what its like to be a newly created race of sentient experimental dragon aspect offspring who probably want to be as incognito as possible with everyone else on azoroth.
Yeah they have horns which might give them away but other races might just think “Oh thats just a blood elf who probably has a birth defect. Ill be kind enough to see past their physical defpormities and treat them like a regular elf.”
I think the dragon form is more like a Druid shape: armor dsoesn’t show on it. So the visage form is there so you can get to see your gear.
IMO I think it’s a symptom of this race feeling badly thought out in general.
Blizzard could also have put in the man-hours to make a new rig that gear fits on like any of the “OG” races, but apparently they chose not to. Seems like they’re trying to avoid it going forward, since most allied races also used existing frames. Probably want to avoid exponentially needing additional fits for differently shaped races every time they make gear (plus going back and fitting all the already existing gear).
Since no one caught an actual reason in any of the interviews nor can anyone think of a compelling in-game reason, I am beginning to think this as well.
I am just hoping Blizzard does have a great reason that fits with all the existing facts (like High Elves/Blood Elves not existing back then) and it is revealed when the Drakthyr get their visage form.
It’s bad enough Neltharion’s idea of the ‘perfect soldier’ did not include a physical combat spec without adding this illogical wrinkle as well.
Heck, given the wonderful job they did with the vulpera using the goblin rig, they could have used an existing rig and avoiding so many problems.
I too enjoy coveniently ignoring other peoples feedback in regards to a company’s reasoning towards the creative direction behind the unveiling of an entirely new race’s basis for having an in combat Drakthyr form and an out of combat visage form.
It makes me look really smart and high IQ.
That is not the right assumption,
The Dracthyr form is the true form if the race.
As they were created a dragon and not a mortal race. (just with the essence of mortal races)
Just put in the effort to make armor work in dragon form. I don’t know why this time it’s suddenly so hard. Wasn’t this on par with creating worgen? So they could make armor work for the new models back then but not now?
Why is that, exactly? Shrinkflation of our game design?
Why would a dragon join the horde or alliance especially the horde? Those ones have been asleep through everything sure but if I woke up to find out dad is dead and my aunt Alex was made a sex slave uncle Mal butchered by mortals, our dearest ysera murdered, I wouldn’t think “hey let’s go sign up with them!”
“Let’s go sign up with them AND kill each other brothers and sisters! For the funs also Azeroth blah blah”
Just a way to give Horde players that excitement Alliance players have with their Worgen toons. Guess what? Worgens are always in werewolf form. They do anything like poop and they turn into their Worgen form. You never ever never see a Worgen in their human form for very long.
