Why classic shouldn't get new content

I'm just going to get straight to the point with this.

If Blizzard started adding new content to classic, It could easily get to the point that people would start asking for Classic again.

And I don't think anyone wants to deal with that situation again.
I'm thinking they could release "season" servers that reset content and wipe characters every couple years or something

like diablo, you have a seasonal character and you get as far as you can in that season and get the best loot. Once the season ends your character is moved to the non seasonal characters (core game server that does not reset) and the new season with new characters begins.

Would you actually want to play on those servers, or is this a solution to a problem you perceive some other people as having?

Cause I'll tell you up front: I want an eternal 1.12 server. Not a "season" server where all my characters will be deleted in a couple years. And I see a lot of people propose the "regular wipe and reset" idea in the abstract, but I haven't seen a single person say "I want to play on a regular wipe and reset server, personally."
The old argument, horizontal progression versus vertical progression.

I will admit there is some appeal to a horizontal progression idea. This would be like releasing Burning Crusade, LK, etc. within the restrictions of the original game.

However, would this be any different than just adding content to Classic, which could include things like new raids?

In the long run, I feel you would be absolutely correct. If Blizzard followed this path, eventually people would ask for the Classic rerelease all over again. This leads into other ideas in this forum, which include seasonal restarts. All these ideas deviate from what made WoW extremely attractive between the original and LK.

Either way you have my vote, let Classic be.

Did a quick edit but your character would not be deleted it would simply be moved to a non-season server similar to diablo. This would be kinda cool because you would have races to AQ content then your character could be moved to the non seasonal server and you could show off your cool new AQ swag

EDIT: one more thing
I know opening of AQ is sacred for new servers so to not dilute the reward you could simply tag items of a character with what season they were acquired from
as a business, that strategy makes the most sense. this time they'll save a copy of the classic code, so in 5-10 years when everybody wants classic classic it's ready to go and they can just turn on some fresh classic servers and rake in the profits all over again
Classic extends through the Ulduar patch for moi.

I hope they let the vanillaites have there way and open up a path to experience wow when it was at it's zenith of FUN&GLORY....

Which was the Sunwell to Ulduar imo.

I get the seasonal idea, but why would they ever wipe characters? At least dump them into a post-season server. They never delete characters in Diablo. Why would they do that in WoW where waaaaay more time is invested?

Edit: Derp, didn't read the whole post.
I'm one of the apparent few who think Classic should eventually get all the zones filled out and back filled with level 60 version raids and dungeons.

Having said that, I don't trust blizzard could ever do it properly. There would be power creep and !@#$ty mechanics everywhere. No thanks.

It would have to be alternative horizontal content and rewards for specs/builds that dont have proper gearing. I just don't ever see blizzard doing that correctly where it would be a net benefit to the game as a whole.
It doesn't need new content because we should go to TBC =)
The only new content I would like to see is to have like challenge modes for dungeons and raids, to see how much people can push their characters. And if these would drop new gear, they would only be usable inside these special instances.

That's exactly what I said. Dump them into a server that is not seasonal
You can't trust new Blizzard-activision to make new content for Classic. They will ruin it, remember they are far from being the same company that made the greatest game in history.

Oh. Well I suppose I should read the whole post then, eh?
Let's just let it release and have a couple of years on the market. We can revisit when the dust settles.

There is one problem with this; server economy.

To which server would these characters be dumped on? Logically, they'd get a choice as to not break up communities, but with these characters copied over comes all the items in their bags, banks, and of course, their gold. Someone, or a group of people, on a seasonal server could spend a lot of time doing nothing but farming up valuable mats, or the gold itself, and then using it to their economic advantage on another server, disrupting its economy.

Say you're on an RP server, where even mediocre greens sell very well for the sake of RP sets, and someone on a seasonal server spends a heap of time buying cheap greens in the knowledge that they will transfer to this RP server to sell them for heaps. Give this a few seasonal cycles, and you've got quite a bit of inflation on your hands as more and more catch on.

I could see such a D3-type seasonal idea working, but only if both gold and BoE/tradeable items(such as mats) are wiped as well. All the characters would be able to take over are BoP's in their bags, and the gear they're wearing.
hmm. I still want to see what they could add to vanilla. The unfinished zones would be cool. A couple insights into TBC which could extend Vanilla lifespan.

Then do the same with TBC (adding a few things they wanted to add). etc

Frozen Shadoweave, here I come!!
For Classic to stay Classic, I think they should not pass the point of when Cross Realms/Sharding, and/or LFR. were introduced. That is what changed everything.
There is no serious conversation going on at Blizzard about having expansions to
Classic. The whole idea is absurd.

They're making a museum piece and a place for fans of Vanilla WoW, not a new playground or game.

If they added content to Classic then it would no longer be Classic. That seems self-evident...
