I don’t think it’s reasonable to argue that you are supposed to be a normal adventurer. Not when you’re actively shown knowing any type of magic, including race specific ones and esoteric ones whenever it’s convenient. I’m pretty sure that every single character exists in their own story but basically we all share a world in which we adventure. Canonically we are MEGA ULTRA GIGA GODS, in the context of gathering herbs, zone quests, or PvP, you’re just a dude.
Yea the concept of undead paladin or holy death knight. I wouldn’t say I’m not a fan as I like paladins too in a way, but yes a bit of a stretch to me. Moreover, when we tried to raise Tyrion as a dk the light prevented it, so kinda feel it doesn’t work well.
This is a game with magic…
Stop trying to see it from like a scientific perspective…
You’re essentially arguing that we can’t light a camp fire underwater in a world of magic.
Like there’s always a way. We just need a line or two of lore to justify it
I’m sorry if I enjoy the story and I think the immersion is better when it makes some sense. Even magic has some explanation it doesn’t simply work out of thin air.
I think it’s fine to disagree moreover I’m not saying I’m fully agaisn’t it. Simply give me an excuse to believe in it.
Sure and I can agree with that and I want that explanation to be made.
That’s what I’m saying. We just need a line or two of text explaining it and boom.
Or maybe just show it.
Like the fact we got NPCs like zeliek and calia means that death and light can somehow coexist.
This we got dk LFD.
Look at the maiden fight in tomb of sarg. That snows fel and holy can somehow coexist. Violently. LFD locks perfected it.
The only one who still has no explanation is maghar locks
Like a big reason why I dislike lightforged dk to me is simply no explanation was given they simply added everyone without question. Maybe just explains how it happened.
Calia and zeliek are the explanations. Hell even player undead holy priests
There are examples of abnormalities, I want an explanation how easy it can be done.
Alonsus says that light magic hurts him as an undead priest and I think zeliek also suffers because of it. Should you have a negative perk for playing those? It seems a bit of a stretch unless a new tech is found to make it so light and shadow can cohabit more easily.
Calia is a light undead, it’s not really the same process as instead of dark magic it’s light magic that makes her live. Technically she should be hurt if she used dark magic if we follow the same concept.
Now I’m sure there’s a reasonable way to go over it, but someone should find it.
A small indie company.
I will agree with you to some point we are not just normal adventurers we take many insane jobs. But there’s a lot of it mostly done to get us to a certain point, our role simply switch too many times to be that much central and relevant in the story.
I don’t think being an adventurer is negative I see that more as being an open role, you get many jobs and titles because you’re not locked in. This is how they cheat a bit and can show us most of the story without being a really central part of it.
I mean this is why I think that all race/class combos should be opened up. It’s like Zeliek in Naxx. Like yeah, Undead normally can’t be Paladins. But just because it’s harder for them doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Because of the nature of PC’s, we are by default exceptions, so it’s not a huge deal if we’re not a typical member of our race.
And if they allow Draenei Warlocks (Lightforged or otherwise), then that’s probably the hardest race/class combo to justify in the lore, so after that what does it matter if we get Human Druids or Goblin Paladins.
I mean like I said up there all I want is some solid make believe, make it work and I’ll agree with it. Don’t just throw it out there and say now it’s fine. Some stuff like warlocks is a bit easier to understand. Dks lightforged? still not really over it.
Light doesn’t stop undeath and most Death Knights aren’t created by choice.
But Warlocks? Warlocks are created by choice and are entirely antithetical to a race of borderline zealots to the light who are essentially the way they are because of a schism in their race where a large chunk of their population became Warlocks and tried to kill everyone else.
If you can get past Draenei Warlocks, you can get past any race/class combo.
class restrictions are there because they are too lazy to make the animations work across all races
There’s a cost certainly to it, which also makes it so they only do a couple at times.
Lolno. That’s not it at all. In 'nilla pretty much all melee special attacks shared animations. And it was by FAR the most class restricted.
They said it themselves that druids would be the last class they’d give to everyone because they want each race to have their own forms, which would be 5-6 models (cat, bear, moonkin, travel, flight; aquatic is optional) for over 20 races, give or take a model reuse or two. Now, look at what happened in DF and TWW: they gave every race mages, warlocks, priests, and rogues, none of which require race-specific assets. After that, news on their plans to expand other classes? Radio silence.
They’ve always been lazy. They added races that are palette swaps and model hacks of pre-existing races, they gave Mag’har, nelves, belves, and velves skin tones that weren’t meant for anything other than NPCs, they gave monks to Lightforged because they use draenei animations and left dracthyr out in the cold, etc. Claiming they’re going to expand more classes and then stopping short of shaman even after DF’s story was very element-focused is in line with that lethargy.
Restrictions are an outdated idea.
I don’t remember seeing any complaints that there were none in BG3 for example.
You mean a completely different game with completely different lore solicited a different response? SHOCK!
It all comes from the same roots. Just because it’s a different branch doesn’t mean it’s not the same tree.
Lore isn’t written in stone. It can be whatever they want it to be.
