Don’t confuse them with facts and reason!
It’s even worse if you get through A Realm Reborn content because you have to then do the patch content.
During which you get next to zero XP and don’t level.
That killed what interest I had in the story, because I just wanted to get back to character progression.
There’s a difference between “all new players are blind and will never find out” and “this isn’t an issue for new players because they’re currently unaware of it”.
Most people aren’t gonna quit a game they’re 50+ hours into just because some items are unobtainable, assuming they were actually otherwise enjoying the game.
That response is utterly incoherent.
Yup which is outrageous and stupid gatekeeping that I resent.
Meanwhile people call me a troll. No how about everyone gets off their elitist high horse and lets new blood get something. This gatekeeping is absurd and does nothing positive for the game as a whole.
If it’s just “pixels” to people, then why are they feeling so STRONGLY the need to gatekeep? It’s DISGUSTING how absolutely contorted and warped their views are.
Some limited time is fine actually but Blizzards idea of player retention is to shove it down current players throat instead of making good content to keep people playing the game.
It’s really fine. I just hope that they create similarly cool rewards in the future.
Hell, I got a crafting title this year that is now unavailable from a ranked crafting season of all things. No way to get it, now.
Yeah, me, Kennie, Brewa, Tovi, we’re the real “Community Council” and we constantly tell Ion he’s not bringing back those items just to spite you.
You just bought yourself another 3 months of exclusivity with this thread, I’m hitting Send right now on my SMS to Mike.
EDIT : crap, Kennie beat me to the group chat with Bobby Kottick, and he called for an extra year ban on bringing the stuff back. Oh well.
How?
Someone new starts the game and sees a bunch of stuff they can not obtain and peaces out. How you equate someone just not interested to mental illness is beyond me.
You must be confusing this with people who are spamming the forums over the mage tower. This is not what this thread is about.
That sounds god awful lol. I really did want to enjoy FF because I’d heard nothing but wonderful things about it for so long. But it just wasn’t for me
The only acceptable response in a thread like this is, to quote Maury,
“Rage, rage, fing rage!”
No, the mentality and spreading of such gatekeeping ideology is what lets the developers know they need to continue this.
IF they find out, hey people are fine letting others also get the chance to earn they are more likely to do it.
Also I genuinely doubt they listen to whatever that council is. But that’s an aside. Not buying that.
People aren’t staying in WoW these days because gnomes can’t be druids.
C’mon, it’s so obvious guys. THIS is why. Gnome druids. Make it happen.
Kitten form. Bear cub form. Shrubbery form. Literally chicken form.
It really is. I haven’t PvPed for years. It would be a sham for me to have any of the seasonal PvP reward mounts and transmogs from past years. Maybe I’ll get back into it and earn them some season. Until then, good on people who put forth the effort. Their having something I don’t doesn’t detract from my enjoyment.
I must say. Out of all the buzzwords that have outlasted their stay, this is my least favorite. I wonder how my Jewish ancestors would feel about people using words, such as gatekeeping, to detail FOMO in a virtual environment.
EDIT: It’s melodramatic at best
Yeah, it’s never too late to hop back into things, especially with how much more accessible they’re making in DF between gearing and solo shuffle.
It’s not a buzzword. I’m using it in it’s definition form.
I’m not about to type out “people who are trying to bar others from getting similar things to them because of some arbitrary nonsensical notion that they deserve it more than other people” or whatever.
Right, but you’re talking about a video game. How pathetic is that? You want to ostracize the other side for being “cruel”, but you’re over here acting like this is life and death. It’s a video game.
Slow down a bit, take a deep breath.
WoW can not keep players because they are still hanging onto to many of their old ways of doing things. However it seems they are taking step to correct many issues with Dragonflight.
That said… WoW has some issues that make it hard for new players and one of those is mainly the combat system. While its no big deal for veteran players and a few skillful players here and there. It is just to complicated for many NEW players to understand and to correctly master. So those who do try to stick around often leave over time due to players being so toxic towards them for not mastering their characters to a reasonable degree.
Now, if Blizz removed half the spells a player has to cast (and they did do this at one point, but in a bad way which backfired), then you have seasoned players in an uproar over pruning. Then some of those players leave.
The ONLY way Blizz will ever come close to making new players and old happy, is to let WoW die and replace it with WoW2 and in doing so make foundational game design decisions to the combat system that will NEVER change. For example I would make it to where there is NEVER a reason for ANY class to have more then 5 spells used in a single target rotation and never more then 2 additional abilites for AoE. Then each class gets one 2 or 3 min spec buff, a minor is healing spell that varies in style of healing from each class and one spell that can be for run speed or dmg mitigation. THEN most importantly, the talent trees never give nor take away any spells, only changing how they interact with the player or the environment. And they must be all passive.
IMHO…
Not sure if intentional? But yeah IT IS A GAME! That’s a great point I agree with 100% you’ve fueled my arguments that people continuing to insist new players shouldn’t be given an opportunity is absurd!
It’s no more pathetic than people having a mental breakdown over a 10 year old item coming back to the game.
I get it it’s human nature for people to feel like they are better than others in some way. In this case its over pixels in an 18 year old game.
