Why are reputations not account bound?

instead of grinding the new rep on my alts im just gonna end up logging out?? and not really because i want to, i really want to play the game, i just dont want to force myself when im not having fun

if you want to make an argument for old reputations not being account bound, fine. but why are tehse new reps not? is there a good reason? it would be so insaely fun to play whatever character i wanted to and progress my entire account

We are playing an RPG……

If not accountwide, why did they do away with that thing you bought in Pandaria that speed it up for alts after you hit exalted?

That would be a happy in the middle option.

Why would your alt be exalted with a faction they have never interacted with before?

What sense would that make?

Because it would destroy the replayability of Zereth Mortis. In a couple months you’ll reach exalted and then none of your characters would have any reason to come back here. There’s now no point to doing WQs and dailies besides a little gold, cosmetics or catch up gear, on any of your characters.

There’d be a sharp drop off in world activity. One thing an MMO really has to consider is the longevity of content. Account-reps is one of those things that dramatically shortens the life of it and shoots it in the foot. Especially with us being in ZM for the next year waiting on 10.0.

What Blizz could do is just add more catch up mechanics though so for alts reputations would go considerably faster than they would on your first time. That’s a fairer compromise to ask for.

It stems back to this game having its roots in being an RPG.

And while your MAIN may have contributed this that the other to Faction A and earned their trust … your alt is entirely unknown to that Faction. They have no reason to trust you, trade with you, share their secrets with you.

We may have evolved this game past that point of RP, but you it’s wrong to just IGNORE where it came from under the guise of simply HATING EVERYTHING.

I think most things in WoW today can fall under the example of the most recent Anniversary mount:

No one likes having a 1% drop rate.
But that doesn’t mean it has to be 100% either.

When did “its an RPG” become more important than the game actually being fun to play?

Some people don’t mind grinding rep on alts. They don’t want progress on alts handed to them on a silver platter - they’d rather, you know, play the game.

You are not the fun police, telling people how to have fun. Right or wrong, that’s Blizz’s job, and if you don’t want to do it, stick with your main.

Better yet, the rep tabards from Cata that granted you rep passively

They figure more people will pump more gameplay into their alts than people like you that will drop out. Simple maths

No to account wide reps.

But they can bring back the whatever it was from MOP.
Or, just have a 10% bonus on all reps (maybe even 20%) for every character
at max with that faction.

Yes to account wide reps. There’s no benefit to making players grind an effectively required rep multiple times

Probably because the citizens of “insert town here” are not going to treat some complete stranger the same as the local hero who has been helping them for months.

Shared rep is great until your lowbie alt walks into Booty Bay and gets blended into puree by the guards because of that one alt you decided to get Blacksail Buccaneer rep with.

There are times when it makes more sense to cater to gameplay over immersion. This is one of those times.

I would disagree but that is the great thing, we don’t have to agree.

Okay, so…

This gets asked a lot.

And people give answers that are wrong.

Because nobody ever thinks this through.

So I’ll do it for everyone.

Here’s what would happen with account-wide rep. Let’s take ZM as an example.

  1. I take Brewa here to ZM and get 2100 rep from the intro questline.
  2. I get on my Druid and do the intro questline and he gets an additional 2100 rep, so both characters are now Friendly.
  3. I get on my Priest and do the intro questline and get another 2100 rep so all 3 characters are now 3300 into Friendly.
  4. I get on my Death Knight and do the intro questline and get 2100 rep and all of my guys now are 5400 friendly.
  5. I get on my Paladin and do the intro questline and get 2100 rep and all of my characters are now Honored.

Repeat with as many alts as I have.

That’s why there will never be account-wide rep.

It has something to with the whole you’re not your account, you’re a character blah blah or something like that. I didn’t catch it all, I got bored and I drifted out. I can barely keep the maintenance on one character, let alone all my characters. Naaaaaaaaaah, I’m good.

You never said why this is a problem

They could add a weekly rep cap on each rep to prevent cheesing like this
