The folks here pitching a fit about the $90 price tag could have farmed out the 1.5 mill gold needed to buy it purely with in-game currency in the amount of time they’ve spent/wasted here on the forums whining and complaining about it.
Entirely valid take. But that’s the thing. If you don’t think the mount is worth it, just don’t buy. It’s literally that simple. That’s the part the folks complaining and even whining the hardest/loudest seem to not be able to grasp.

I don’t personally care about mounts, I’m just answering the question as to why people are mad.
It’s not that they are quitting over the mount.
The mount is just a cool thing. People want cool things. You could tie a mount like this to a massive meta achievement that required people to do a bunch of in game crap to earn it. People would make this a goal and they would log in and be playing the game to earn this mount.
If someone just swipes their credit card and purchases the mount, they might quit the game a week later when they get bored. If they had instead spent those 2 weeks doing activities in game maybe they make friends along the way and start enjoying themselves and maybe even find a guild.
WoW is a community driven game. A lot of people would prefer that rewards such as a really cool unique mount be used to incentivize people logging into the game, which in turn benefits the community, rather than just swiping a credit card, which benefits blizzard at the detriment of the community.
