Why are most people going to a PvP server? ⚔

That’s how it should be. If I don’t get ganked by level 60s while I’m leveling up, then i’d consider that a problem.

Pve and normal realms had plenty of wpvp in vanilla, the big tm/xr battles existed there too. I was on a normal realm from vanilla through cata. Switched to a pvp realm in wod, did not enjoy it as much. Have played on pvp pservers and they can be lots of fun. Biggest prob is the lowbie ganking, or 1 shotted, people just have their preference really.

In truth, I don’t feel camps are all that commonplace. I think it’s an exceedingly overexaggerated problem.

That percentage of experience you have keeps going up. Eventually pvp servers will be 1000% of the experience of classic wow at the current rate of inflation

Oh please. Projecting much?

Yes, on PvE realms it’s easy to get flagged for PvP, however it barely happens. Your sense of surroundings disappears and you just focus on your quest. The thrill of seeing the other faction is met with no regard, even when they intentionally flag themselves.

The thrill of a PvP server isn’t just “ONLY REAL MEN etc” reasons. There’s many good reason on this thread. The personal reason why I will be on a PvP server again is for creating experiences just as I’ve done during Vanilla. You begin to recognize players who were honorable and who would gank you. Create rivalries and friends. It also gives me a change of pace when PvP happens randomly whether it’s in my favor or not. Questing or grinding in vanilla can be daunting if nothing else happens.

Maybe my experience from different PvP realms are different from yours, but remember that people are not being phased from other realms into yours.

I’ve been guilty of ganking people when they had no chance to survive. I never considered that “winning” but rather a way to stir up a situation. You know what happens later? While I’m questing the same darn Hunter finds me and kills me. They do have a general chat to communicate and get more people to join them. I have to pick my opponents wisely or pay the price. If you’re ganking all the time dishonorably, people will remember you—chances are in the next zone with you questing nearby.

The responses from the PvPers are exactly why you shouldn’t roll on a PvP server.

There is nothing extra from being on a PvP server except some delusional fantasy of being better than everyone else because you took longer to do everything. Grats?

Half the “PvPers” won’t even have the patience to make it to 60 let alone raid.

I appreciate that social aspect of pvp servers.

But here is the problem…if I don’t attack someone, no one will remember me as a harmless passerby. No one will tell their friends, “don’t attack this player, they’re cool.” The next person looking for a kill will just kill me again. And then another. And another.

Well we kinda sorta did that.
Ness’s camp in STV.
We fought over who “owned” it so players could run in and get/turn in quests.

In fact chat was full of “Who owns Ness’s camp” and when enough players had quests to turn in we invaded and took over ownership.

Sandbox my friend, sandbox.

I am going pve server ganking takes time away from actual play. If I wanna gank I will xfer to pvp server.

If they stick to #nochanges, then PvE->PvP xfers won’t be allowed, for precisely the reason you want to.

PvP->PvE is allowed though

I could go either way, though I want a server with a Horde-heavy population and I have a feeling those will mostly be on the PvP side of the fence.

Hopefully, the server faction pops get managed by Blizzard.

I will. If someone is cool I tell other players not to attack.

Well I appreciate you, my good friend. Most people won’t though. Which is why I must stay away from those servers.

That’s not a PVPer thing, that’s a ganker thing. Many people who enjoy PVP wouldn’t ever gank. I’m an avid PVP player and yet when I see someone in trouble or low level I’ll do what I can to help them out, no matter the faction.

However, if I see someone who is causing trouble or is a good fight I’ll jump right in and do what I can to fight them.

That’s Halaa in Nagrand. It was an experiment and it kinda worked but it needed some refinement and it should have been more involved with the rest of the zone and game.

Real answer: Because a large proportion of the core Vanilla lobby spent all their time on Private Servers, and almost all Private Servers are PVP. So a large proportion of the people who want Vanilla and eagerly ticked the Opt In Box, have only ever known PVP, and convinced themselves it was the “more hardcore” server.

Blizzard has never “managed” faction populations on servers. It’s not even possible.

It’s not the “real answer”. It’s your opinion because you have no facts to back that statement up therefore it’s not a “statement” but “opinion”.
