Why are most people going to a PvP server? ⚔

You’ll not have a rush like some good old similar level open world pvp anywhere else in the game.

On a PvP server, for contested zones, you can’t choose whether to flag yourself. Sometimes, you will be the hunter, and sometimes, you are the hunted. There are no cowards who participate in WPvP… you will be dying.

Sure, players are more apt to take advantage of a situation (attacking players engaged with a mob). But when we are sharing a realm without any sharding garbage, you can incur payback. Maybe not right away but eventually you can hunt down players that have wronged you in the past.

It’s each player’s responsibility to be aware of their surroundings. If I am questing and see a Horde nearby, do I engage the mob? Do I engage the Horde? Do I wait or relocate to a safer spot?

On a PvE server, you just engage the mob. Kinda boring when it’s such a mindless non-choice.

PvP on a PvP realm is horrible (too many gankers, griefing, etc.).
PvP on an RP-PvP realm is fantastic (all dwarf guilds battling all orc guilds, humans guarding Arathor from the Forsaken and the Horde, humans battling the Forsaken in Lordaeron, etc.).

I intentionally roll on realms where my faction is outnumbered, so I have more people to kill. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

PvE realms do have PvP options… they queue for the same BGs that PvP server people do. And they can flag PvP whenever they want to engage in world PvP where is exists.

What doesn’t exist on a PvE server is the unmitigated ganking of lowbies with no option other than to switch to another toon, or hopefully call on someone to come kill the ganker.

The difference between the two are"

  1. Choosing to PvP or not
  2. There is more PvP on a PvP server… mostly in the form of ganking.

If you ENJOY ganking and being ganked… then PvP is your best choice.

But this is why a PvP realm is fun?

And wpvp makes no sense either in the sense of it being an actual war. You can never make any permanent gains or win anything all you do it mindlessly kill the other faction just because they happen to be red.

If I gave you a map in an RTS where all the building were unkillable and the enemy units just kept respawning indefinitely and there was no way to ever win most people would find that excessively boring. That’s how I feel about pvp servers.

Aside from the thrill some people get out of ruining someone else’s fun wpvp offers very little.

That’s the chaos that makes vanilla fun. Once you add a goal to PvP, and make it some event that everyone is suppose to do, it’s not fun anymore.

See, this is where I don’t get this mindset … “Ruining someone else’s fun”. Just don’t play online video games at this point.
What a snowflake stance, I am sorry to say but if someone ganking you, and camping you ruins your “fun” the problem is not the PvP …

You don’t like PvP, fine; but damn this argument about “ruining fun” is weak and stupid.

And these are the players I generally like to avoid on pvp servers.

Even on a PVE server, the other faction can still come into town and kill your quest givers, flight master, etc. So, in a way, PVP is part of the game whether you like it or not. Your decision is whether to take part in it or not.

If WoW had true free form pvp and you could kill anyone regardless of faction I would agree that it was just about chaos.

Here’s my speculation. WoW gamers are really two fairly distinct breeds. Those that continued with WoW over the years as it transitioned into a collection game with raiding; and those who enjoyed the raw gameplay of a mmorpg.

The collectors are less interested in Classic and definitely not interested in PVP. The returning players, who just couldn’t abide the new game, are more interested in the game play and open world PVP.

That PVP dominates the classic game is no surprise to me.

Except WoW is a pve game at heart, if I’m questing and I get killed by a player there was no reason to do it other than to interrupt my pve.

But you’re right I won’t be playing on a pvp server because I don’t particularly like killing people for no reason and as such see no reason to subject myself to the same.

How can I kill level 20-30 alliance in Duskwood on a PVE server?

You can make temporary gains by making an area unsafe for one faction.

It makes a lot more sense than being at war but not having the ability to actually attack the enemy.

The reason why I slay dragons and quest for powerful gear is to then use this power to destroy and slay the other faction. What is the point of awesome gear if you can’t use that in PvP?

For me the end game is PvP. Once you have finished questing, raiding and scoured the land to become the strongest fighter. You then turn to destroying all the players that stand in your path and farm Honor kills.

You don’t need “Content” you just need players to kill. So why wouldn’t you be on a PvP server? Why wouldn’t you want to test your power against another foe?

For me I don’t understand why there is even a PvE server to begin with. PvE is only a fraction of the gaming experience.

Quite the opposite actually considering you are always in danger at any moment. Not everyone on a pvp server plays a rogue.

So why don’t you play on a PvP server to help people getting ganked?

Well I’ll personally have two accounts for horde/ally on the same realm. So I’ll be able to kill both factions.

I would say World of Warcraft is actually a PvP game at heart as it is based on a RTS where a faction war is ongoing.
But Vanilla was relying primarly on PvE that I agree.

But in general, I seek better gear to destroy the players. I don’t really care about the end game raiding per se. I care about outmatching my opponents
