So why did they went for guides before the restrictions?
Have you considered that the meaningful choice is actually making the game more fun for you despite how you feel?
A talent tree that I could actually experiment with the different stuff at endgame without a grind would be far more interesting than covenants. As it is now it’s just 2 extra skills that you have to hope Blizz doesn’t break and ruin your “meaningful choice”
Reading everyones responses. The abilities to switch and grind up truly does suck. The guild I have been raiding Mythic CN just told me last night to swap Kyrian to go Venthyr if I wanna keep my slot for progression. Im pretty much forced to since they changed Kyrian so much since the start of the expac for rogues. I really like Kyrian but gonna have to switch now.
A lot of the min-maxers did, sure. But there’s a TON more casual players that would have liked to have been able to try things out on their own.
I have considered that - but determined that it actually makes me not want to play, let alone make the game more fun.
If I could swap freely, I’d be playing more to try out raiding and M+ through the various other covenants and conduits.
Because it’s not?
From an RP perspective my Nelf VDH would always take the tools that are the best because if she wants to do the job she’ll make whatever sacrifices necessary to do it (cue Illidan meme). From a player perspective it’s not fun to be stuck in a covenant that doesn’t match the RP I’d like to have for my character (Nelf… would love to go Night fae).
So no it’s neither meaningful nor fun to me.
I was being sarcastic.
People that keep saying that this affects meta chasers and min-maxers the most are wrong.
Swapping covenants is annoying but you can get it done and max renown within a week.
The players affected the most are casuals because they have to give up the thousands of anima (and hours) and the cosmetics related to it.
It’s their attempt at making a subclass, but they’re not balanced enough, nor do they have enough depth to justify “locking” people into a choice.
It’s crazy how if you slap an ability on some Azerite traits it’s all the sudden a subclass.
just cause. honestly ion never changes specs don’t play alts maybe they think everyone should do this?

Poor guy running around on the same toon since Vanilla collecting pets and mogs really got the shaft this time around
You say that like it’s a bad thing but…
eyes the Draenei from head to toes
Look at me darling, it takes time to look this fabulous.
Because it shoulda been and covenants are dumb!
Not a bad thing at all! Almost all my time is on one since bc
Good thing that you already have that.
When I find one of these players I’ll let you know. So far the casual players I’ve encountered also copy and paste builds from wowhead and don’t really care about experimenting.
The players that like doing experiments are usually not casual at all.
A lot of them quit the game because of the restrictions. A lot are still around though. I hear them chatting all the time in our communities and in guild.
From an RP perspective, it would also make more sense and be more enjoyable to freely use all the covenant abilities one at a time.
The moment you sign up with one they send you off to help another.
We’re there to save the Shadowlands as the “Maw Walker”, but they’re going to time-gate our ability to use different abilities when those abilities can help us kill the bad guy for them? Makes no practical sense if you’re approaching it from an RP mindset.
