Who want's layering gone out of game

People that don’t have the patience to level without layering will ultimately be the wrong fit for classic wow… delays are actually part of the game.

I can’t wait until we’re past layering so we can get to the past tense threads about how bad it was, and how it ruined the game forever, and people begging Blizzard to make REAL Vanilla servers without layering.

Do not be surprised if Classic never “gets past layering”.

I’m not saying that layering will definitely be present perpetually. I’m just saying don’t be surprised if layering extends well beyond phase 1 or if it never goes away.

Tinfoil hat firmly in place, I see.

I loathe layering, but it probably is a necessary evil to deal with “tourists”…

I predict that a substantial amount of people are going to try classic, but the amount of people that stick it out is going to be a mere fraction of those… The game isn’t for everyone, and many of the retail people aren’t going to want to commit the time classic requires to really succeed vs retail’s more hand out system…and that’s fine, they have retail to keep them going… But it will have a massive impact on server populations over the first 6 months until populations relatively stabilize.

The point of layering in this case, is that Blizzard can dump 3-4 servers worth of players on a single “realm” and just layer it 3-4x in anticipation of 66%—75% of the people quitting and that one realm (hopefully) ending up with 1 full realm sized population after the dust settles.

How realistic the theory ends up working in practice, is obviously up for debate, but I think the intention is based upon trying to avoid massive transfers or mergers as much as possible.

No. Just acknowledging that Blizzard has a history of s aging one thing and doing the exact opposite.

“We know the players will not like this, so we’ll just work it into the game a little at a time” and “It’s easier to gain forgiveness than permission” seem to be Blizzard’s business credos.

Ya, i had that same feeling creeping up on me. It sounded all a little too easy, considering the way WoW’s direction has gone since the end of WotLK.

It’s so odd to see that at the beginning, #NOCHANGES was the common concensus. WoW Classic has to be authentic, start to finish. People laughed at the notion of anything sharding like making it into the game, let alone for weeks and months. The moment it got suggested, it got shut down hard.

Yet here we are, now having to argue to keep the game authentic, and having to defend the games integrity from Blizzard AND those who wish to give it up for retail QoL technology which has been a massive factor that has led to WoW’s big decline.

#nochanges, wake up. It’s not over yet. Blizzard, do you remember #nochanges? And why we came up with that slogan? Not just for us, but also for you?

It’s exactly because of what’s happening right now: We aren’t gonna get Classic currently.

We’re getting big #changes, that have additional potential to leave a longterm mark on the game long after they’re taken out again.
Tune into the #nochanges station again Blizzard. Show us a sign if you’re still out there receiving the #nochanges signal. It’s getting spooky out here, #changes are closing in and there’s not much time left until release, and no word from you on your current status. :radio: :grey_question::sos:

Everyone forgets one thing that blizzard said when they announced classic wow, as close to the classic experience as possible. This means that they will have some changes. I strongly suggest having better reading skills, and listen to them carefully when they say something. Instead of ASSUMING it’s going to be…whatever your expectations are.

When they announced classic, they also said: “One of the tenets of Classic WoW is none of the cross-server realms and different [server] sharding options that we have available to us today. There’s a lot of desire on part of the community that this is something that they don’t want.”

Next they said, we are going to have limited sharding in the starting zones.

Now we are getting layering across the entire server.

It is not about reading skills, they keep changing their plans, and to make it worse, they are vague about it.

Don’t worry, one of the dozen Actiblizz apologists will be in here to respond to every reason why layering is a bad idea with some variation of, “None of us want layering, but the game will have 24 hour queues, be unplayable for the ones who don’t have queues and also have nothing but dead servers all at the same time if we don’t use it so we have to have it and vocally support it!”

Layering is less harmful to the game than Crossrealm battlegrounds.

I don’t mind layering as long as there is the layer hop cooldown.

Let me ask you this. Would it be better to have layering or you position in the que to log into to be at 7000 and have to wait 6 hrs to log in.

Most definitely layering… Atleast with layering you’re not spending your day waiting to play

I’d happily have a queue for login and jump into a fully populated world than deal with this layering malarkey… but I’ve got plenty of free time and will doubtless be playing with a movie/tv show on one screen and WoW on the other.

Yeah…

Waiting in queue for 24+ hours is a good thing.

I must have played on a dead server back in the day, I only recall 1-2 hour max.

I remember having a queue of 48 hours once, sucked even more, as soon as I got on, the server crashed and was down for a week. I have SOOO much comp time from Blizzard from back then.

This is Cozer.
That’s what I mean about the Classic feel. That is a server is that full, you go to a less populated server then transfer later to the server you want.
This only makes me think that they either went cheep on servers or their in league with the gold spammers. And they are trying to make changes to a game they bought, so they can leave their only mark on the game. I don’t think they will ever take out layering.
