Who mainly plays BGs and why?

For me, it’s end of the expansion and waiting for the new one. In my last guild, I did some of their raids but I couldn’t figure them out. The one who led the raids said he was paralyzed from the neck down. It was hard to understand him so someone stepped up, no idea who, and that one provided the interpretation as it was hard to understand the raid leader. Anyone have any bad experiences with people like the leader I mentioned?

Ive always been a PVP guy since I started Windrunner back in 2004, easier to get gear and much more fluid, but thats server experience, Windrunner from 2004-2011ish or 10ish was always 2 steps back from any other server where a guy like me who was a Ret Pally back then never fit into guilds PVE end game plans because

#1 ( They never understood the concept of Pally doing damage which often exceeded most any player they bring to any instance, they think ret pallies should always heal)

#2 To go with #1, They never liked me because of how much I would out do them and call them out on it, often make them look foolish, even the servers top guild Forlorn Legacy built their foundation of server xfers and originally was built by a bunch of ninja looters that boosted their characters up to a point they could do top content.

So yeah thats my story of hating PVE and always joining PVP BGs, why I am exalted with every PVP faction, but not to say I cant do end game content, I had to go to other servers to achieve it and was in top guilds in the world back then.

I play them because i love pvp and i feel its much more a personal test of skill than any other aspect of PVP. If you dont premaded its pretty much what you bring to the table. Charts at the end give you a idea of your performance (in terms of the pvp aspect only).
I love catching people 1v1. Also seeing how i can do in 2v1 or 3v1 situations.
Just what i enjoy.

Unranked BGs and unranked Arenas are laid back low stress and effort fun. Lots of people get worked up in them, but they play out like scrimmage or Rec sports for me.

And unlike world PvP, none of the phasing crap, less lag, and generally it’s a fun way to test out a new class/spec versus the PvE method which is not dynamic enough.

All I do is PvP. I had my gut full of raiding in MoP, not that it wasn’t fun, but it just got… old.
PvP at least in my experience is a lot more unpredictable.
I have seen my team or the other pull off some amazing wins at the last minute to the point we were all like “oh heck! Did not see that coming!”
It’s just… fun.
I have made a ton of good friends through healing bg’s, too, some even becoming very close friends in real life after meeting in Bg’s.
That never happened the entire time I raided.

Two words…dynamic environment…especially if your healing. Its a constantly changing situation that is entirely unpredictable. Unlike PVE where you don’t even have to look at the screen once you’ve beaten the fight once, you can heal and move by sounds alone…I really don’t see why people find raiding fun once its on farm. To me it just seems rote and boring.

its all i do.

arenas are super boring… like you want me to hide behind pillars for 9 minutes, wait for dampening to finally get a single kill then the rest of their team just quits?

lmfao boring. in a bg u can get like 30 kills in 9 minutes , and a lot less hide and seek, just pure action

in battlegrounds you have to improvise, its always a different situation. my teammates could be anybody its random, and the opponent as well so you have to think of a strategy for what to do with what you have.

bgs aren’t scripted and ive never received a hate tell from a raid boss.

I don’t do battlegrounds exclusively, but I’ve been grinding them since vanilla. I have over 100ks on all my character. I just feel like I have a better opportunity to contribute to the team and have fun. Arenas are too compact, high stress, etc. I’ll do them, but they aren’t my cup of tea.

BGs are here and have always been here for one reason. To test out the best gear in the game by Globaling and completely stomping your enemy. We play this game to get BiS items then test their Epic power by farming HKs and breaking the spirits of the other faction.

BGs aren’t competitive and aren’t supposed to be. There will always be undergeared noobs learning the ropes in a BG and it’s your job to Delete them and beat on them till they work hard to acquire great gear and then it’s their turn to beat on noobs. It’s a cycle or initiation.

BGs are supposed to be fun because you feel completely overpowered in an PvP environment that is designed for casual play. Where you 1 vs 3 and win. Where you can easily dominate the other player until they get gear and become the dominators if they also have the skill to do so.

BGs and PvP is a 2 factor situation in WoW because it’s an RPG…First you need gear to compete then you need skill to use that gear. However in BGs there will always be undergeared so it isn’t much of a competition except for maybe competing with your own team on who can get the most KBs while farming their GY.

BGs are only fun if you feel overpowered. That is why they exist and why we continue to do them. If players wanted fair competition they will do something that has a MMR or Rating attached to it. So when I want more of a fair balanced fight I do Arena and when I want to Global someone I do BGs.

The best PvP game of all time was Diablo 2. I PvPed there for 6 years everyday before coming to WoW.

All these replies are terrific and each and every one replying stated exactly why I love bgs. Thanks all!

Basically this. I would have replied with just “this” but I guess I need ten characters

I was a PVEer for the longest. I had never done PvP and was actually really intimidated to do so. So, back in MoP there was one quest you had to do in order to get your Legendary cloak, and it involved winning a Silvershard Mines game (or something like that). I was nervous as hell and a guildie came with me to show me to what do. But I LOVED it. And since then I’ve been strictly a PvPer.

But, I’m kind of confused about your story. It just seems you had a bad raid leader, did you ever try to get into a good group? I used to raid, and I did enjoy it, but I’m just so PvP focused now that I can’t seem to get my head back into it.

It’s far and away the most fun thing to do in-game with no close second. There’s definitely room for improvement but even BGs’ worst patch was more fun than grinding dungeons ad nauseum.

I’m in a good group now, and thanks for asking. Just curious if others had similar experiences.

I mainly play BGs. Why? Because I… gotta!

No but, seriously, BGs are just the best. I’m really hoping they continue the trend of allowing BG spammers like me to level and gear to respectable levels through mainly just BGs.

Exactly what I want to do. I have 3 mains, seriously, but the rest i just use to level and gear to respectable levels to play in bgs.

was in one of the higher ranked Mythic Raiding Guilds in Oceanic earlier this expansion

on norm and heroic, the expectation was to clear each boss without a wipe

the raid leader was militant; no one was allowed to question him on strats or mechanics.

If you messed up once you were called out on discord and berated for it.

three strikes throughout the entire Raid and you were kicked… though they didnt just remove you from the group and discord. It was a shaming ceremony where you were identified by class, race, and letter of your name, then asked to leave, while the rest of the Raid waited patiently for you to leave raid group and portal out.

Never experienced anything as toxic as that in the game… and that’s saying something given the amount of RBGs I do via LFG

I mainly BG as it generally has the most socialising and have met most of my friends through them.

Egads and I thought mine was horrific. I also mainly BG and see some people acting like jerks but it’s fine with me. I get frustrated in there, too, at times. I even like some of the opposing groups as we’ve played against each other for many levels.
