We do, but from what I understand, it’s tricky to scale up and even trickier to keep consistent from lot to lot. AFAIK, it’s still easier and more reliable most of the time to get live cells to do the work for us.
Its fearmongering really. Vaccine did so well that even my blue state has return to normal. Virus mutates all the time its nothing new really.
The key word there is “theoretically”. They don’t know. And that will always be my point. They have no idea if by introducing a substance in a way where your body creates these proteins to create antibodies will create some sort of autoimmune response and now you have an autoimmune deficiency. That is my only concern. AND we don’t even know if this new method kills off antibodies to viruses.
They say it’s safe, but they really don’t know. This is again why there NEEDS to be long term study into these sorts of things before pushing it on the public. And what that means, is this has become a large “lab rat” experiment. And I am not ok with that.
This is also the reason why I am comfortable with the J&J “vaccine”. Tried and true method in creating an immune response. As for this other method, “Theoretically”…I can’t get behind that. Yet.
I would actually point to Florida: purple state and kept everything open and didn’t mandate vaccines etc. They actually have been over all, the state that has come out of this the least harmed. And they are one of the “retirement states”. A bunch of old people, and by and large, they have fared better than most. Heck, everyone made fun of Texas (my home state) for opening up and rescinding mask mandates sooner than most. AND…we have had far less deaths since then than states like Ca since then.
I do believe that this virus was overhyped.
it appears that Biden Administration is looking to fire Fauci over email Scandal.
LOL kept everything open. Guess disney and every park and restaurant that was closed was fake news.
Also their death count per capita is middle of the pack, that is if you can even trust their manipulated numbers. Texas is 25th.
Texas has 178 per 10k and CA has 160. FL has 171. So Florida and Texas has done worse then CA.
And yet everyone is moving to both FL and TX because those governors run their state far better than Governor Gavin Newsom (He being recalled) and Andrew Cuomo (Caught in a nasty scandal with the senior deaths in nursing home) ever could.
Is this overall, or since we opened things up? Because we were absolutely laughed at for opening things up and oddly, our death rate since has been really low. And actually 178 per 100K is insanely low. That’s a 0.178% chance per 100K of dying. Have a higher risk dying in a car accident. I’ll take it.
Just don’t be moving to Texas and be bringing your terrible liberal policies that made you move here to Texas in the first place.
Not really, Gavin Newsom will most likely survive the recall because the challengers in CA are bad. No one really likes Caitlyn Jenner to begin with, not even Republican. Jenner is another Rino. Nothing going to happen with Andrew Cuomo, the whole sexual harassments is more of a distraction just to make you forget about the nursing home scandal and its working btw.
I fear Texas will turn forever blue eventually with amount of people moving to red states and ton of illegal immigrants that are living here that and eventually they will get amnesty and they will vote blue. Why you think The Democrats are supporting them? because they are cheap labors and they are not very smart. They can work harder than anyone else here in US, will work for peanuts and they will vote Democrats. So yea the Democrats are cheating.
I’m curious about your definition of “tried and true,” and why you put the word “vaccine” in quotes. Could you describe how the J&J vaccine works?
Joshavia may have a better answer, and I have no idea why vaccine would be in quotes, but:
J&J is a Viral Vector Vaccine vs Pfizer and Moderna that are mRNA Vaccines.
The link below describes the difference in the technologies. I assume the “Tried and true” refers to the fact that this is the first time that any mRNA Vaccines have ever been released for use outside of clinical trials.
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/different-types-of-covid-19-vaccines/art-20506465
Yep, got that. I was hoping for specific points of comparison as to why one type of vaccine is better or more reliable than the other - aside from the “one and done” nature of the J&J vaccine.
Also maybe some discussion about how many vaccines of each type have actually been fully approved for therapeutic use.
And, yes, I’m holding some cards.
Both vaccines were pushed through under the FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization with 2 months of safety studies after phase 3 clinical trials (usually the FDA requires at least 6 months).
https://www.fda.gov/vaccines-blood-biologics/vaccines/emergency-use-authorization-vaccines-explained
And while the J&J vaccine does use an older technology, each new application of that technology still has to go through clinical trials and safety studies.
Just because the delivery method has been tested before doesn’t mean the vaccine is inherently safer or better. A lot rides on your immune system’s response to the antigen itself (the thing you’re trying to make antibodies against), and for both viral vector and mRNA vaccines, the antigen is the same (COVID spike proteins being expressed on the surfaces of your own cells).
Here’s a list of the ingredients used for the vaccines, for anyone who’s interested:
https://portal.ct.gov/Coronavirus/Covid-19-Knowledge-Base/Vaccine-Ingredients
AFAICT, everything listed (except maybe mRNA) is being used various treatments. The only thing that stands out to me is polyethylene glycol 2000. If you wondered why the vaccinators asked if you ever experienced anaphylaxis, this is why. Basically, if you have to carry an EpiPen, you shouldn’t get the mRNA vaccine.
Already got both of my shots. In spite of the short lifespan of the antibodies, I’ll at least be allowed to return to campus when they start mandating the vaccines.
Ok, so the “tried and true” method means that they take a virus, in this case the adenovirus and add covid proteins to the virus. Now the virus, like all other classically made vaccinations, is degraded and made inert. So it won’t harm you, but having it’s components in your body helps your body recognize the virus and in this case the Covid proteins as not self. And so it takes the proteins and viral debris off to your lymph nodes to present it to your B cells which in turn make antibodies specific to that virus.
Morderna and Pfizer vaccinations are not made this way. There is a new method where they essentially trick your body into making proteins that resemble the covid protein and then your body attacks it and fights it off.
My concern with this, is that for one, we have no idea if this will create a future autoimmune disease. Two: that there hasn’t been any time to see if there are potential long term side effects (same for J&J, but again, see points above as to why I trust it). Most vaccinations/drugs go through a long process to become approved and deemed safe enough for public use. EXCEPT these “vaccines”. 3: my other concern is that even though they say it won’t rewrite your mRNA, but again, we don’t know this for sure, and it should continue to be studied and then verified safe. This didn’t happen at all. And it makes me wonder why.
Yes, 3 million people dead is a lot of people worldwide, but the number still pales in comparison to the Spanish flu or polio etc etc. So my concern is, why have they been pushing so hard getting an unproven technique???
And the reason why I put vaccines in quotations is because truly, they are still in the trial stage. There is a reason why they were emergency approved. Because we have on long term data and we really don’t know what potential harm could come from this new technique.
To answer this question, I only think the J&J is better because it’s classically made. Obviously, we still don’t know the true efficacy of the supposed vaccine. But at least this method is more or less safe.
The J&J vaccine does basically the same thing, just through a longer route. The adenovirus is modified in that it carries DNA that codes for the spike protein, instead of its own viral DNA. (Note - it is the lack of its own viral DNA that makes it inert or inactive)
Once injected, the virus gets taken up by your cells where the DNA is released. The DNA then gets moved to the nucleus, where it is used to make mRNA for the spike protein. At that point, the process is nearly the same for both the J&J and the mRNA viruses - your own cells use the mRNA to make the spike protein, which then gets presented on the cell’s surface.

(scroll down to the part titled “Viral Vectors”)
If by “rewriting mRNA” you mean rewriting your genome, consider this: Without retroviral activity (note - adenoviruses are not retroviruses), I can’t find any means by which mRNA would result in genome editing. On the other hand, a free-floating piece of double stranded DNA can be taken up into your genome by DNA repair mechanisms. However, the chances of it doing so are very, very small - not quite impossible, but very close to it.
If you really meant “rewriting mRNA,” I don’t know of a way to actually do that inside a cell. Would be interested to learn about it, though.
It is true that the virus itself helps to kick off the whole process of generating antibodies, but that’s also true for the stew of lipids used for mRNA vaccines.
The issue is, they say there’s a small chance, but at least from everything I’ve read, they really don’t know. At least doing it “the long way” by introducing the virus (J&J), it’s more of an “organic” response.
Just because something is new, doesn’t necessarily mean it is truly safe. I would still prefer as a scientist, to be skeptical until we have more information.
