Everyone who dismisses Tinker and calls people like me braindead stupid. You win. I no longer hope for a Tech based class in this god awful game. I will no longer hope for anything. The very concept of Tinker and those who want it are stupid, I also hope and pray Blizzard rethinks Player Housing because no matter what they do they will screw up and fail no matter what. You all win.
In this game Lipstick on a pig is the only thing we deserve.
Why would a Tinker class (or any tech class) need to distance itself from alchemy or engineering?
Professions and classes do not intersect in the slightest. Do you think mages suffers for Enchanting existing? Or rogues and alchemy? Or Hunters and engineering? Or Priests and inscription? Or Druids and herbalism?
I’d even argue to opposite, professions should softy homologize class specialties so the ‘meta’ doesn’t have such a strong grip on the bleeding edge of content. Let scribes have scrolls back, give engis a 5min death grip/gorefiends.
A Tech class SHOULD have roots/poach from engineering and alchemy, both profs has clear meaning and history to the player base, having a class call back to ‘tech’ professions would only make it feel even more at home in the class roster.
One would hope they fix the issues with the current classes, or game, before adding more new classes, but they are going to do whatever they need to to keep you guys playing. If adding tinkers is what it takes then they probably have it saved in their pocket for when things get really slow.
They aren’t shadowdropping a new class midway into an expansion. We just got evokers last expansion, so it’s more probable that we’ll get some kind of elf-centric or Void-themed class in Midnight.
It’s goblin aesthetic because it’s a goblin-centric zone, not tinkers specifically. We didn’t get tinkers with Mechagon or a First One-themed class with Zereth Mortis, either.
A hunter used to benefit from engineering in so much that they made arrows and ammo, but even today, a hunter benefits from engineering by making a gun and scope.
A class and a profession are distinguished in WoW from a gameplay perspective. In-universe, classes doesn’t really exist - the ones that do exist are typically not described as such.
Mages engage with enchanting but not necessarily the enchanting of items. Which is what an enchanter or scribe would do.
Tinkers on the other hand is merely just a different title for engineers. That’s why one would have to distinguish itself away from engineering since of how broad Engineering as a profession in-game (and in-universe) is.
If folks were just asking for a mech-based class, folks wouldn’t care. But then folks attach the name “Tinker” to it and then start asking about stuff that’s literally impossible to implement in the way folks argue about it.
Hell, engineers can already make “exploding pets that fight for you” but that’s not enough. Folks repeatedly say “Let me build a factory and create an army of it” … as a class ability!
If folks were just saying “I want a skirmisher with the ability to tank that uses mail that’s mechanically themed”, that not only gets rid of the association with tinkers but also opens it up MASSIVELY to what that could include.
doubt they’d dump a class in a patch rather than at launch, especially after the mess that was dropping a new spec mid expansion. but if it does ever come out, they better not race restrict it
the idea of tinker was so cringe that blizzard decided to make an entirely new concept for a class rather than to continue pulling from the RTS. so I’d say they aren’t coming. Which is fantastic news.
We’ve fought Tinkers before and they weren’t using the engineering profession when we fought them. And we’re going to fight more of them in the next patch and they still won’t be using the engineering profession.
Tinker is clearly not just the engineering profession if you’ve ever actually played the game.
In the words of a former blizzard president: “Tinker Rofl”
I imagine that this sentiment is shared by others at blizzard as well that end up making class decisions. So no tinkers, which is nice for those of us with good taste!
Literally every single tinker uses their own inventions to fight. In other words, in-universe engineering. Stop with this nonsense about denying factual reality.
And of course, the classic “you cannot have been playing the game since your arguments doesn’t support my opinion.”
Yes, that’s the point of Tinkers, using their inventions to fight. That is vastly different from the engineering profession. I don’t know what point you think you are making here.
Because you keep coming into these threads saying Tinker is just engineering. Like just move on? We all get it, you hate the idea of a tech class. Go do something else.
you can craft jumper cables for brezing as a non brez class at least. engineering has always been mainly a for flavor profession but the problem is if you give it too much impact its a required profession for everyone’s main. You see this happen in classic versions of the game.
Have you ever tried reading anything I have ever said…?
I’m for the idea of a mech-based class, I just don’t want folks to dig their heads into the sand, scream into oblivion, demand a bunch of insane stuff, and then pretend that one is behaving in a reasonable fashion.
Hell, I have in the past even outlined a way you can do this even if the thread in question was discussion more Void-thematic stuff:
I don’t like these threads specifically because of people like you who love to pretend a bunch of stuff isn’t real, make a bunch of insulting comments about others, and then shut down when folks are actually trying to have a constructive dialogue. There’s an absolute metric ton of really interesting and fun design space to explore with a mechanical class, but everyone is so hardstuck on “tinker” that folks dig their head into the sand and refuse to even acknowledge that Tinkers are engineers.
But what’s the point in going into any of that when ya’ll keep shutting down before the first hurdle of trying to figure out what folks actually want from a class?
Follow your own advice. Trolling ain’t much of a productive activity exactly.
