I’m talking about a complete overhaul of the specs, like outlaw was to combat, and survival hunters. The class needs a complete redesign top to bottom.
Rogue need a lot of work. Assassination is built to play like a TBC DPS spec when the rest of the DPS specs in the game can spread pressure better, less waiting between globals, actually burst, and better survi vabilty.
Outlaw needs to have a lot of bug fixes done along with making other talents actually competitive to use by fixing wonky mechanics and real baseline energy that is better.
Right now Outlaw is busted in that you need too high AR UP time to have reliable energy which has never been true of the history of the spec.
Then I suggest finding a different class.
They aren’t going back to the simple versions they used to be.
And is universally hated by about half the rogue community?
Where the vast majority of hunters hate it?
You’re playing a heavy burst class. That’s how it’s designed and it likely isn’t going to change.
I could see Ele Shaman being a high priority on the rework list. Right now, there doesn’t seem to be any reason to take one over an enhance due to a lack of a form of utility outside of lust.
Frost DK
WW Monk
Enh Shaman
I think those are my top three that I’d like to see get a rework.
My picks would be:
- Frost tree for DK
- Class and Enhancement trees for Shaman
Frost DK is what I keep hearing.
But let’s be real blizz will just designate more time to redesign Spriest again for the 100th time because they just can’t keep their hands off it for any other classes dire need for reworks.
Don’t think WW monk got really anything fixed in a while either… Just some % buffs or nerfs.
EVERY spec needs their button bloat examined except maybe Destro locks and Beast Masters (the two I play and for a reason!) and I’ve heard Devastation isn’t too bad but haven’t checked it out much.
People get very sour when you bring this up, thinking more buttons = more skill so git gud or something but to me having a lot of buttons just isn’t fun (unless said buttons work fluidly together but that hasn’t been the case since Mists of Pandaria). Dragonflight is a disaster with abilities not feeling connected to each other. You grab them because the meta for most specs seems to be to grab every active ability on the tree. I tried to read up on the Shadow Priest rotation since Shadow is an old favorite of mine and I think I had a seizure.
You should try out ret, while not super “brainy” I think the spec plays the best atm.
Shadow is riddled with issues all over the place. To name some off the top of my head…
- Conflicting spells/buttons
- Mind Flay / Mind Spike needs to be figured out and a clear identity needs to be established.
- Mindgames lost its place and should just become a utility cooldown rather than DPS.
- Mind Flay / Void Torrent compete for similar type of ability.
- Consistent AOE is nonexistent with only Psychic Link spreading single target damage. Mind Sear needs to return as choice with Psychic Link.
- Voidform / Dark Ascension need clear identity/ Purpose and talents/spells to support each. Should be Periodic and Non- periodic damage based cooldowns.
- Capstone Idol talents are forgettable and sometimes ignored outright like Idol of Y’Shaarj but other Idols need to be reworked to be more reliable and a clear purpose / build leaning established.
- Power Infusion needs to be reworked as the PI tax is real and its use is frustrating to deal with.
- Mobility is awful and borderline nonexistent with no displacement ability at all and rely on others for mobility entirely.
- Class tree capstone talents are weak or borderline useless pending the spec you are.
- Dot Spread with Shadowcrash is god awful. The spell itself in shooting a slow moving projectile to a targeted area that is easily missable just torpedos the entire spec into the ground since AOE is incredibly reliant on it.
- Mastery based on having each dot spell (3) on the target to unlock full potential is easily prevented in PvP with disease and magic dispels nullifying most of the power in shadows damage potential.
- Dispel protection is nearly nonexistent.
- Major cooldowns requiring cast time on the least mobile class when is prone to easily being locked down and prevents any damage ramping up from starting.
- Most spells require cast time and access to instant cast spells is few and far between which opens for more easily being shut down.
Lots of issues overall but Shadow has a thematic and gameplay style identity crisis in which so many sources of themes that compete to be realized and as such a mix of abilities that compete with each other to do similar things which overall leads to being directionless and increased ability bloat or forgettable interactions that exist in both class and spec trees.
Yes shadow has been in dire straights ever since it’s Legion abomination rework and has suffered ever since as it continues to stay in that shadow of a rework.
But the reasoning for such a sloppy fix each time it’s touched is because the dedicated developer working on Shadow has left during the development process (4 individual developers left since Legion) which causes the rework to be leaderless and directionless and they just slap things together in a bit to duct tape things as best as possible due to time constraints.
Shadow needs a proper amount of design time to really go through and understand what and how should be and how to make the complicated diametrically opposed DPS spec for Priest work in conjunction with its healing brothers since they use completely different toolkit and spell type and thematic and cosmic force power contention.
I go into more depth and detail with ideas of how to solve these issues here…
Ret is actually on my “to try” list! For whatever reason I haven’t gotten around to it yet.
Honestly feral, so it doesn’t use the same combo point/energy system as rogue… ya know, build to 5 combo points, use a finisher.
It would be nice to get a new resource system to make this spec feel more unique. No one has anything close to balance druid, for example.
Enhancement Shaman doesn’t need a rework, just need to do something about storm build. DRE is #1 priority talents that need to be removed or changed because what DRE does to Enhancement Shaman (can apply to Elemental and Resto) is feeling horrible to play. DRE made all Enhancement Shaman ability into the filler and spamming SS even if you have 10 MSW.
Most specs just need buffs to a couple abilities and several talents.
I’d like reworks on all of these (in order of need IMO)
- Affliction Warlock
- Frost DK
- Enhancement Shaman
- Augmentation Evoker (or delete from the game)
- Subtlety Rogue
- Outlaw Rogue
- Preservation Evoker
- Balance Druid
- Unholy DK
- Arcane Mage
- Blood DK
- Arms Warrior
- Fire Mage
but a rework should never be used as an excuse to not make balance changes
Didn’t rogues just get a rework along with DHs (we share a developer I believe)
It is the same playstyle and rotation, but with extra steps and more buttons, so I wouldn’t call it rework, more like adding more buttons. Arthritis-rotation sucks.
yeah, I was kind of joking since both specs recently got reworks, but my main is a holy paladin so I am a little biased. I actually really love the framework of a spec that holy has since the rework, and love most of the changes. I think it’s in a good place to be really fun with diverse viable builds, except for the fact that Inflorescence of the Sunwell is just absurdly overpowered, and every other piece of our kit was nerfed to make up for that.
As a result, Inflorescence of the Sunwell is mandatory. I think we’d be in a much better spot if they nerfed IotS HARD, and buffed everything else back up to compensate.
