I can’t critique your build. I’m not good at building confusers. All I know is don’t buy a hot box and don’t skimp on power supply.

People drive hours to go to Micro Centers. It is almost cultish. Whatever you spend there goes into your computer. Not into a hyped up marketing campaign or obnoxious fluorescent lights. Straight shooters

Hmm I’ve been wanting to upgrade mine too.

  • Processor AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Six-Core Processor, 3850 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)
  • RAM 32
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070

should i? idk

Depends on what you’re doing with it. If you’re playing just Classic at 1080p 60htz that’s more than fine.

top one because i feel it would last you a minute.

eh, I do try to play other games too here and there.
I try to keep this PC clean. Got varies apps to clean up the disk. Did a full defrag recently too.
But even in raids, here and retail, I can’t play on Ultra.
Oculus VR, like beatsaber of Squadron, they work fine, but with occasional 1s lag.

You seem to be the one that is desperate for forum interactions or conversations.

This is a hard thread to follow; to paraphrase Lincoln - I’m sorry for the posts length, I didn’t have a lot of time to write it.

Is this for WoW retail (i assume) or WoW classic? Also what other games do you play besides WoW and what monitor do you have? Are we talking 1080p 60hz, 1080p 144hz+, 1440 60hz, 1440 144hz, etc., etc., Any professional or demanding CPU needs? Can’t really recommend anything until we know your needs.

CPU wise, WoW will basically perform the same across all of those CPUs. The 13900KF offers better multithreading performance than the 12700kf or 13600K but you would need a more powerful GPU and run games at 1080p to actual see a benchmark differences between the three.

GPU wise the RTX 4070 ti offers about 20% more performance than the RTX 3080 while using less power. As an upgrade from the RTX 3080, probably not worth it if you already owned the former but buying new it’s the better choice.

RAM, without seeing speeds and timing it’s hard to say which is better. In general for just gaming you really won’t push past 16GB. If you stream or have production needs than 32GB comes into play. In a few years you can make an argument for needing 32GB but you can also make an argument for going down with DDR5 RAM.

For me personally out of the three you mentioned and I had to pick one of them, I would probably go with the cheapest. It would get the job done easily at 1440 144hz and I knew the savings would let me upgrade parts that I wanted to. Maybe you want a better monitor? No clue to what you have.

If you just want to buy it and forget it, probably the microcenter one. At least if you had any issues you can take it back there rather than ship it back to CA or AZ (some companies use 3rd party repair shops there like Dell and HP)

The expensive ibuypower does offer the best CPU and GPU combo plus plenty of RAM but shows no detail past that. In theory it would last you the longest but I’m guessing there is cost cutting on the mobo and PSU.

That said I’m not crazy about any of the options but I won’t second guess your microcenter parts. I personally would not go with every single one of them. I would also check out Dell and HP as they often have sales on their pre-builts. I know Sal is usually on top of the HP omen sales so he may post something soon (hes on west coast time).

I personally build my own and if I had to go with current parts, I would probably do an AMD Ryzen 7600x DDR5 RAM build with the RTX4070ti assuming I was using a 1440p 144hz monitor. You can also make an argument for the Ryzen 5800X3D if you already owned a compatible mobo, an Intel i5-13600k if you don’t want to go with AMD, or wait until April for the Ryzen 7800X3D although for a pure gaming CPU I still find it too expensive (performance wise it will be great). GPU wise you can look at the AMD 6800 XT to save some money.

Also if we are talking about 1080p 60hz then all these parts are overkill.

I haven’t really looked at OEM computers at all since GPU prices fell. Now that GPUs are stabilized…no point unless you’re just that timid about rolling your own.

If it were me buying today for high end gaming I’d wait a month, get a 7800X3D, 32GB DDR5 6000, B650, 2TB NVME SSD, 7900XTX, and done.

Those games don’t need much. You could get away by spending much less and going to a 6600/XT or 6700XT class GPU, and and i5/Ryzen 5 CPU

I bought the 1 i linked above.

I pick it up on the 21st!

WOW, the 21st? I am not that patient.

That is what I love about Microcenter… Order online, pick up in 20 minutes and start building! In a couple of hours, you are installing windows. And that first hours is mostly unboxing… LOL (I love the smell of freshly unboxed electronics… is that weird?)

Actually, lack of patience is how I got into building my own PCs. I had ordered a PC from IBUYPOWER, or one of those sites… paid extra for expedited build and shipping. Said it would ship in 7 days. 9 days later, still no notification of shipping, so I called. They had not even started my build, and had no idea when it would ship.

I canceled my order, ordered parts from Microcenter, picked them up and started building that evening. First time builder, it took more time, but I got it to post on first try!!

I’m so spoiled by Amazon. Most things are same day or next day delivery. At worst it’s 2 days.

Also, no MC within 6 hours of me. /cry

I wholeheartedly miss the days of Incredible Universe (later Fry’s), CompUSA, Computer City…those were the days.

That is sad… closest one is 15 mins for me… another about a 30 min drive.

So, I can literally order online… immediately walk out door, and they have my stuff ready and waiting by the time I get to store.

The only reason I would go to MC are for their CPUs and to check out new PC cases & keyboards. You can’t beat their CPU prices especially if the CPU is an open box. Their Mobo selection is OK and you can get around $20-30 bucks off the Mobo if you buy a CPU but that tends to bring the prices down to Amazon’s level, they will match Amazon pricing though. Basically for everything else outside of the CPU, I use Amazon. If for any reason it doesn’t work, I have UPS pickup at work to take it back. Driving to MC on occasion is OK, having to go the following weekend to return something is a pain.

Also, Florida used to have tigerdirect stores that looked eerily similar to MC but I believe most (if not all) of them have closed recently.

I used to have four within an hour to me (closest 45 minutes) but I moved a further 20 minutes out so its more of a trek now.

Yeah, that is a drive. I totally recognize I am spoiled by my proximity to Microcenter.

I’m in Northern California and we have NO dedicated computer brick and mortars anymore. The closest thing is Best Buy…while they have improved selection over the years they still don’t have a lot.

It’s frankly depressing that if I have a computer problem that needs resolution immediately I can’t really solve it. I have to wait for something to come out of a warehouse.

But I can see why they dry up. In a different market, let’s take fishing and hunting. I drove about an hour last night to go to Bass Pro Shops to look for some new riverbank rods and reels…selection was decent but prices were really high. And they didn’t have the reel I wanted in stock so I just got nothing. I did grab some .22LR though, mostly because you can’t mail order ammo where I live.
