I’m totally ok with the updated character models as long as they can be toggled off
I much prefer the old character models to the new ones. I can’t stand how undead look, cast, and throw their spells now blehhh. Can’t wait for old models :))
I very much doubt I will even notice one way or the other. I play really far zoomed out, and I play with the settings down pretty low since I usually have 4 WoW instances loaded. I prefer classic versions of spell effects, but when it comes to actual models, whatever.
Ya know, I’m with you on this one. I’m all for no changes except I wouldn’t mind updated graphics. And to be honest i dont think we’re in the minority here. Same old game, just 2018 graphics! Let’s put this new Asus laptop to work!!
While i don’t care one way or the other, looking at the vanilla textures does make me ill , much like trying to play an old PS1 or N64 game (like say WrestleMania 2000)
Seeing as how it’s being frankenstined onto modern infrastructure i would expect the option to enable the updated graphics.
It does have the Classic Textures, Animations, and mappings. What it doesn’t have is the same engine, the same tier of graphics cards, and a number of other things.
For a LOT of what people saw, it was theoretically possible to see that in Vanilla back in the day, you’d probably have needed a 64 bit client(which didn’t exist), and an uber expensive video card(which also didn’t exist) to see it.
The difference between a top of the line graphics card in 2006 vs a new production graphics card in 2018 is huge. That’s 12 years, or 144 months. Which basically translate into Moore’s Law getting invoked 8 different times since then.
Seemingly he/she/other/neutral could just build a PC using parts from 2004 and get the true classic experience, it would be terribly unstable and prone to hackers and gods know what else but it would work , in theory.
My buddy said the same thing. I don’t remember the difference; I don’t suppose you have a comparison screenshot or something? Personally I don’t much care either way.
I played the demo with directx 12 and everything at max. Beautiful, and yet it still felt like classic… the grass moved as my character walked through it. Details like that add to the realism.
As long as they aren’t the graphics in retail, I find no issue with the updating the graphics. The old graphics just look so much better than those sh#%y graphics they add to retail now days. -please forgive my french
The biggest reason for me are the newer faces models. When I tried out the classic demo the first thing I noticed was how much better the faces look. For once I felt like I wasn’t choosing between only one or two usable face types. The ones one retail just have to may that are just a massive turn off.
This also goes for the open world graphics as well. As things stand I honestly don’t like the newer art styles and models as much in retail as I do the classic one’s. The only word I have to describe this off the top of my head is that they just feel to smooth.
So basically as long as they don’t screw with the art I am fine with new graphics.
I took a bunch of screenshots during the demo, but unfortunately I recently uninstalled WoW and lost them all. However, I did include a couple in the thread I made about my thoughts on the demo’s graphics…
Thanks, I can see the difference now. Not sure what I like better.
Honestly, the new graphics don’t look much different from the old ones to me. I don’t care if they allow the new ones, as long as there’s an option for the old ones. I just wish they were using the old engine. The inability to jump over fences is pretty frustrating, and finding ways out of the zone geometry was a fun way to pass the time.
I really hope they release Classic with the option to use the Modern water. It’s a lot easier to see just how bad the generic water texture from Vanilla was when you view it from a distance. It’s the same texture repeated over and over again, not very immersive:

Modern Ultra water: https://i.imgur.com/9iZIJoJ.png
If the transparency of the Ultra water setting is bothering people, maybe a compromise could be made and they could only include the fair setting which looks very close to Vanilla water in terms of transparency.

Also, I’m not sure the water obstructed your view of things underneath as much as people think it did. Here’s a video of Joana’s 1-60 world record back in Vanilla, and as you can see in the first few seconds of the video, the water was somewhat transparent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7usYjTsUVIA
Maybe it depended on where you were, I don’t know.
I would be fine with updated graphics if they’re 100% optional.
If other people want to use them, thats fine. I might even check it out. But I dont want myself or others forced into using graphics they dont want.
The way I look at it, it is optional. If you want BfA graphics, play BfA. If you want Classic graphics, play Classic. Why people expect graphics from a different game would be used…I still don’t understand.

I would be fine with the original graphics. I also like alot of the original models. The Night Elf Female dance looks like she is part Gumby.
As long as it’s the old models with more pixels/better pixelation, I don’t care.
i dont want new models toggle, for the following reasons:
i select the model to play in the game and expect other people will see my choice as i see theirs. if someone else can change how my character appears, the point of letting me select a model for how people will see me in the game, is gone.
the new model animations are frequently bad. example, night elf males run oddly, female night elves lose their predatory run animation (without shape shifting in vanilla animations, female nelfs ran like cats, their arms swinging forward and digging at the air like a cat pulls at the ground and they leaned into the run) and female gnomes go from running like small adults to running like toddlers.
although i prefer the new female human animations, its not worth it to lose gnome and nelf animations.(not to mention that human female faces from vanilla, are just so full of character)
At the end of the day I expect it to look good on my current hardware. Sorry I’m not playing on a 1024x768 CRT anymore and I want it to look good. That doesn’t necessarily mean new models but whatever they need to do to give it a little over haul is fine.
