I’m kinda with you Sabetha. I want the best graphics possible, but if it provides a gameplay advantage, nah.
If I remember, you could change script back then to adjust how far you could zoom out.

With the newer graphics, it would feel less authentic, but I don’t mind either way as long as the gameplay mechanics are the same. Make it a toggle I perhaps?
in the beginning, a lot of people did not understand (or know), really anything. of course the hope was that classic wouldnt have a lot of the modern hardware/components that current does. and then with the panel Q&A, where a lot of that is explained- from top to bottom, i think it sunk in that- it really couldnt be avoided.
trying to run old data on modern systems, was bound to have a modern effect. in that area at least.
not sure what your faction disdain has to do with the op?
Yes! I can toggle up the graphics to my own preference and others can keep it how they want it. That would be fantastic!
I’d appreciate having the option to use old graphics, but I don’t really care either way on this issue.
Why are you fine with the dynamic shadows but not the updated water option?
Ever since Classic was announced I’ve wanted it to take the route Starcraft: Remastered did. Improve as many visuals as possible while still leaving the original look of the game as the default option.
The people that do not like modern WoW graphics focus so much on the player character models, mostly being irritated by their over-the-top animations. The models for a large number of Vanilla creatures have been updated and look fantastic. I was hoping they’d finish the 1-60 model updates and implement a toggle in Classic but it’s looking unlikely.
I’d like the option to have a toggle for modern graphics, I think it would keep more players engaged long term.
I look past eye candy if the game itself is better. I don’t read books because of the covers, paper, etc.
My vote:
Have the default mode be graphics that were available in original WoW vanilla only all the way up to the highest graphics options available then.
However, also allow a toggle that allows the player to enable more modern graphics, such as updated high-res textures, BFA character models (including skins, animations, skeletons, etc.), BFA shadows and water effects, advanced lighting effects, updated spell graphic effects, and high res and quality ground clutter.
However, even with modern graphics mode enabled, maximum draw distance should remain what it was at in 2006 so that turning on modern graphics does not grant any gameplay advantage.
I don’t mind the toggle idea, to each their own. I would be using the original graphics though, since without updated model and environment textures you will have all these super high res player models and spell effects in what is pretty much a game from 2004. The armor textures are from Vanilla are still pretty low res compared to anything from WoD onward, and I wouldn’t ask the dev team to waste time updating old models when they could be just getting the game out and working.
No need to update old armor models. They look a bit blurry on live, but they still look good. My transmog on my mage is using old armor and I think I look fine.
The problem with modern water is that it’s way more transparent. You can just kinda…look into it. Old water had a glossy surface texture that hid what was underneath.
God, stop with the “Toggle” option. It never worked properly…
No…
Original graphics…
As long as normal models are the standard I’m fine with a toggle. All the modern fans can deal with the issues that causes.
Deal with the buggy casting and attack animations, etc.
Let them have it. Old can be the default and new model fans get to deal with the downsides.
i’d like the ultimate settings possible, beyond retail even
however i’m cool with stock vanilla graphics, or anything in between
Only dislike: new people models (NO disney taurens pls)

Exactly.
I don’t expect it to look perfect with toggled graphics. It just needs to look more modern. I can live with buggy graphics if it looks better.
Even on Retail, the graphics are riddled with bugs. Some examples:
Frankly, WoW’s graphics have never been perfect. The game has had clipping errors with character models right from the start of vanilla and continues to have them to this day. I’m used to them… they’re part of the game.
Updated graphics does absolutely nothing to actual gameplay. Some people just like the old models/graphics, some like the new. It is preference.
The eye test. I don’t notice the shadows. They’re subtle and blend in, which is precisely what the enhancements should be. The water effects, on the other hand, stick out like a sore thumb. It’s a completely different style. It clashes with the world around it. And on top of that, the new effects give game play advantages. You can see things below the surface that you can’t with the old effects.
