Hey guys. I was curious where the community stands on this - would you care if Blizzard updated the graphic models?
I am a huge classic enthusiast. Pretty much once TBC released I hated everything and everyone. Paladins on horde? IT AINT RIGHT.
So that being said - that I’m a diehard classic fan - I don’t see any issue with blizzard applying some of the new graphic models to the old game. It doesnt change gameplay, story, etc. It just levels up the scenery and to me only improves the experience.
If you disagree i’d be genuinely curious as to why. Because maybe there is an aspect to this i am not considering that would truly water down the classic experience.
If they were b4a graphics I’d legit be pissed. I cannot stand the new models for some reason. I think they did a fantastic job of upgrade but keeping them very close to vanilla.
I don’t want the game to look different. I want it to look like it used to look. That’s the point of Classic–to have the game as it used to be. The old models/animations/sound effects are a gigantic portion of the nostalgia. If everything looks different with higher-resolution models, smoother and more detailed textures, and fluid animations…it’s just not the same game anymore.
Can you clarify that? Did they improve the graphics for the classic version already?
And what is it about the BFA graphics that you’re not a fan of? I wasn’t fully aware of new model improvements aside from allied races and posture stuff. Also, do you see gameplay being affected?
I think the old graphics/models are a part of Classic. I don’t want them in modern WoW, but they’re everything in Classic. Run them on Ultra and they look fantastic.
Okay sweet I will definitely look into that then. I personally love the new character models we have now. So having updated graphics in classic would be a dream come true ha.
better resolution is fine, new models are not fine, new water is not fine, increased view distance is not fine, better fps is fine
I don’t feel like explaining why
I want to be able to use the old 2004-2006 visuals personally.
Beyond that if Blizzard wants to include modern stuff, I’m not gonna be bothered by it unless it’s something that provides a gameplay advantage like the distance at which other players and NPCs render.
Yes, I would care a LOT if I didn’t have a way to see only the original ones when I play. Yes, I would care a LOT if they use the new skeletons and models, with new animations. Yes, I would care if they use a toggle they couldn’t even manage to maintain for two expansions (added in WoD, broken partly in Legion, broken completely by BfA).
I’ve disliked multiple graphical changes Blizzard has done. This gal’s face used to have a bit of a soft smile to it. My female dwarf hunter used to have bright red-orange hair. My mage had her fire elemental look like he had muscles implanted. I hate the over-the-top sparkles and glitter and ground imagery they’ve added to many spells - give me a quick simple puff when I levitate, not a ridiculous “LOOK AT ME” spell effect.
They rarely manage to JUST improve the resolution and pixel count, instead replacing things with what someone decides looks better.
In addition, there are things in-game that don’t have matching new models. Anduin because he grew up, Cairne’s model because he was killed, Thrall’s model isn’t a warchief any more, etc.
Separate from whether I would care, though, is the fact that what we saw in the WOW: Classic demo at BlizzCon is very likely close to what we will get. You might want to take a look at videos from that to see what it looks like on modern computers - rather than the toasters so many had in 2004-2006.
There are a LOT of dud games out that proving that premise utterly false.
