What's your player housing wishlist?

A media room where you can view any cinematic from the game’s history. Maybe they are sold by random vendors scattered around the world.

What would be disappointing:
Basic houses with 1-3 rooms that I can plop furniture in.

What I’d be okay with:
A decent variety of houses to choose from with customizable interior and exterior spaces.

What I’d be hyped for:
A plot of land with full sandbox controls, and a wide variety of modular structures to build whatever we want—unique houses, gardens, dungeons, whatever.

My Personal Dream:
The opportunity to obtain or build a mansion. If I could choose any house in WoW to call my own, it’d probably be Waycrest Manor. If housing lets me get anywhere close to an elaborate mansion for me to meticulously customize each room, I’d be extremely excited.

I have a feeling that’s how it would begin, but you know keeping things simple isn’t their strong point.

Both.

It’s false scarcity because there is no reason not to do infinite instances (which is possible) but they decided on scarcity to have neighborhoods/communities which IS a resource issue as far as there hardware/server capacity. A solution is have your cake and eat it two. Limited neighborhoods and personal houses outside of neighborhoods. which they kinda/sorta did with islands.

My wants:
Let everyone have one. No arbitrary limits like FF14.
Dont make them cost millions of gold

Perhaps give each race a free apartment in their respective city, similar to ESO giving an Inn room.
Houses of differing sizes, multi story even.

A farm? Doesnt need to be functional, but something like Sunsong Ranch or a ranch in westfall, etc.

Have it be instanced open world, like garrisons/sunsong ranch.
Even a neighborhood system could be cool but allow for multiple layers so players can live where they want and not be forced into a plot they dont just to be near friends or guildmates.

Privacy settings to allow/block strangers from coming inside. And perhaps lockable/no entry if we have yards.

A dismount area so people cant be annoying with mounts outside of entrances! Also, no toy zone for this same reason and maybe extend to abilities so people cannot spam/grief others with visual effects.

Free item placement and possible resizing of items. No designated spots. Again, think ESO/Wildstar etc.
Turn of collision so we can place items where we want and be able to combine items to make new decor.

Thats about all I can think of right now.

I keep thinking of all the upper levels of Ironforge we don’t have access to, and pretty much all of Gilneas City.

Instead of having a random chance to try looting a piece of furniture, there should be a “Loot” sparkle around an item found in the overworld in an abandoned location or enemy building, or inside of an instance or scenario as an initial appearance to unlock through the Carpentry Secondary Profession. Afterwards, you’ll need to go around the content zone to gather materials to build a second version of that discovered piece of furniture. You want another one of those that Nightborne Tables or that Bastion Fainting Couch: run through a Dungeon in their Zones. You want to get that larger-than-life portrait of Sire Denathrius: go through Castle Nathria.

We should also let our Professions have us get access to certain decorations by completing certain crafts, like using Tailoring to create curtains and tapestries, or Herbalism to create gardens and hedges outside, or Skinning and Leatherworking to create pelts and taxidermies.

In regards to where I would like to build my house at, we should have as Nixxiom pointed out “Plots”: sections of land in nearly every Zone in the overworld where we could build a house at. But I would also like it if we had the option of unlocking areas from certain Instances and Scenarios like the Island Expedition Islands as a place for us to build a house on these private islands. Maybe even introduce things like Neighborhoods or Guild Halls in order to build up a myriad of Communities within the game and a place to showcase our accomplishments and solidarity.

We’ve been wandering for far too long.

Uuna says: Do you live here?
Uuna says: Come to think of it… do you live ANYwhere?

Well Uuna, we now DO live somewhere, we are no longer “Murder-Hobos”.

  1. NO quests, AH, mailbox, etc to do inside the house. Cosmetic only. That way we dont have incentive to sit in there for hours on end and will still actually play the game
  2. Put crap for housing in every part of this game. Including letting it drop from world trash/elites/etc.
  3. A trophy room / den where we can hang maybe a dozen heads of bosses we’ve killed.

I’m going to be realistic and I don’t think we’ll get something like Palia or Animal Crossing, where you can place things everywhere. I think what we’ll get will be like a mini-garrison, where there will be specific spots to place stuff inside your house that you can then switch out to different items/designs (like the dragon mounts and dirigible). It’d be nice to place a chair wherever you want but I’m betting it’ll be specific spots and then we’ll buy new rooms and such to expand.

I’d personally be fine with that as long as there are PLENTY of design choices and options for interior and exterior. I don’t want to see the housing have like 3 exterior choices and 2 chair designs to swap out. I’m going to be cautiously optimistic, and I look forward to hearing more about it.

With the housing, I’d also like to see new professions such as woodworking and woodcutting. I’m not sure I’d want to give up my primary professions, so maybe it could be just a work bench near your house that will allow access to crafting. Woodcutting could maybe be another secondary profession that we could add for us to collect resources for the bench.

My suggestions/wish list for the feature:

  • I understand there are probably technical limitations for placing homes just anywhere in Azeroth, but I would like there to be an option to place houses in multiple zones. Maybe carve out a section of certain zones dedicated to housing? I am not sure what their idea is for how it will be implemented, but if it’s instanced like Garrisons, then maybe have a few spots in Pandaria, a few in Outland, a few in Northrend… etc. My dream is to have one in Kun Lai in Pandaria.

  • Tie some decorations to achievements, and allow some to be drops from old content. I would like to be able to show off achievements like Cutting Edge/AOTC in my home, but also adding decoration drops from old raids and dungeons would breath new life into that content.

  • Let the furniture make sense based on race/size. I think a Gnome would furnish their home a lot different than a Tauren. I don’t think a one-size-fits-all approach would seem right.

  • Give ALL crafting professions an ability to contribute to housing. I think that every single profession should be able to benefit from the new feature in some way. It’s going to be the hot new thing, and obviously a gold sink. A profession that can’t partake will likely feel bad. Tailoring can do curtains, Leatherworking rugs, Inscription can do pictures and portraits, etc.

  • Give housing a fun progression path. I think having a way to continuously upgrade or improve your home will be a lot more fun than having everything available at once, but also give plenty of room for customization right off the bat as well.

  • My personal request - give an option to have an outdoors section, perhaps like a yard, to show off mounts or pets. Being able to have your favorite mounts roaming the yard would be nice.

  • Be able to change the ambient music of the house, like a jukebox. Being able to choose a tavern melody, the sounds of the zone of your house, or whatever suits your mood would be a nice touch.

Would be nice if some achievements where attached. Like a book case, that fills with the tomes and books you gather around the world, and it gives the title “Librarian” . Only because I want that title for a alt of mine

Ok this one may be bias on my part.

A mailbox out front just makes sense. But I agree with most of the rest. Everything else should be purely cosmetic.

My personal thought out wish list:

  • Any quests should be quests tied to cosmetic only rewards for the house, or building the house.
  • MAKE IT A REST AREA
  • A stable showing random mounts you’ve collected, but no mount unlocks through the house like there were in the Garrison.
  • A kitchen where you can cook, and potentially even have some of the well known cooking NPC’s drop by every so often.
  • Personal workshop where you can set up profession tables for your character’s crafting profession. Fully functional. You can normal craft and fulfill crafting orders from your personal workspace. But if you want to place an order, you still have to go to the appropriate places for that outside of your house.
  • A nice garden, but no growing of actual usable herbs from any expansion. Even plant cosmetic trees like the ones on Sunsong ranch.
  • A collection room similar to the one in the Garrison that will let you display various archeology items you’ve found/solved beyond just WoD artifacts.
  • A small pond, but fishing gets you no usable fish for crafting or cooking. Bonus points for not having any fish at all (I keep thinking of Jack from Stargate saying “There are no fish in my pond”). Have Nat and his buddy show up from time to time to hangout and drink around the lake. All the benefits of quiet fishing without the fishing. Since it’s long been a “known secret” that Nat actually doesn’t like to fish.
  • Non-battle pets roaming around the house. Just because I want Uuna skipping and rainbow sparkle streaking around it happily :purple_heart:
  • Be able to get guards and servants for the house from various races like you can pick the race of guards in your garrison. Bonus points for being able to recruit/rescue some unique ones from all over the game worlds.

Tie in the various professions to make neat cosmetics and functional utility things for the house:

  • Herbalists can find rare tree seeds around all expacs for interesting looking trees based on visual themes from the various expacs.
  • Enchanters could make enchanted brooms and mops that clean through the house.
  • Scribes could make elemental runes to let you have little fire elementals in your stove, water/steam elementals in your bath, frost elementals keeping your kitchen fridge cold, etc.
  • Engineers could craft a jukebox so you can use all the garrison jukebox songs you’ve collected for your garrison in your home if you want. They’d also be the ones to craft the crafting profession tables for your workshops. And things like the forges, tanning racks and looms, etc for the workshop as well.
  • Tailors can obviously make curtains and pillows and other clothy things for the house.
  • Leatherworkers can make rugs and other upholstered things for the house.
  • Blacksmiths can make chandeliers, stair railings and a host of other metal based items for the house. Cooking pots and cutlery for the kitchen (I think several of the existing Pandaria “training” recipes could be repurposed for this cause since they make things like this already that are just vendor trash. Cauldrons for Alchemy workshop.
  • Jewelcrafters can make regular and stained glass windows and obviously the bottles and other parts needed for things like the alchemy worktables.
  • Just look at the list of Archeology projects and see how many of the gray items would make great decorations and furniture for the houses.
  • etc

Do’s

  • Obtainable through a questline.
  • Several locations to choose from, across all expansions.
  • Customizable furniture/decor that isn’t just generic “human = alliance, orc = horde” stuff. Show me some draenei specific decorations. Some goblin decorations. Some blood elf and nightborne decorations.
  • Profession-based areas. A garden for herbalism if you have it on your character, for example.
  • Earning decor on the trading post, through weeklies/dailies, etc.

Don’t’s

  • Obtainable through massive amounts of gold.
  • RNG based or bidding based system for plots.
  • Uncustomizable location/furniture/decor.

My wish list:

  • House is IN World and NOT instanced
  • Ability to invite friends / Guildies to visit the house (both factions); Bel’ameth has a debuff on Horde characters that allowed them to visit; apply this same type of thing to allow friends visit cross faction houses
  • Take inspiration from New World; where there is an “ilvl” for the house, where the highest ilvl is displayed in world
  • Ilvl is tide to the decorations quality (Chairs = Low ilvl / Boss heads = Epic ilvl)
  • a “Fav Mount” to set “parked” outside the house in the front
  • Costs no more then 100k gold to purchase, with NO type of “rent” (I’d like it to cost nothing, BUT that’s not the world we play in, 100k is very achievable to anyone that is playing the game, and would give a goal to players to achieve.
  • No Trade Chat, No Guild Bank, No AH
  • Personal / Warband Bank is OK
  • Customization is tide to Achievements, and are retroactively added, like AOTC / KSM / KSH
  • Customization is also tide to current professions (Give me a reason to keep leatherworking)
  • No new “WoodWorking” profession :stuck_out_tongue: due to above point
  • It’s likely a given, BUT a housing only hearth that do not share any type of CD with the current hearths
  • Maybe an unpopular opinion but, I don’t think we should be allowed to purchase more then 1 house, BUT there should be a spot to purchase in ALL and every City (old or new), Also don’t think we should be able to purchase houses outside of a city, IF we want to have a house in a new location, the current one needs to be sold at a value that is lower then the cost to purchase.
  • A “Portal” generator where you can set a fav portal to a city
  • Last but not least, there has to be an outside / backyard section, where plants or whatever can be displayed and customized

I certainly wont personally ask bliz for what I want in housing directly, but I think its a HUGE mistake putting anything in there ‘to do’ outside of being purely cosmetic.

the last thing we need is another garrison scenario where everyone is holed up in their garrison for hours a day.

I would love to see an instanced town/city. When you select your home, you choose from joining a town with your guild, joining with X number of random players or just your warband (for those who prefer not to be social). The core of the town would be some buildings we’re used to that would probably need to be unlocked\upgraded\whatever. A place to repair and sell, maybe some for professions, a bank, etc. There would also be buildings primarily for RP - a big meeting hall, tavern, etc. Finally, there would be buildings for new, interactive mini-games. They don’t need to be anything incredible, just enough to get people to want to hang out even if they’re not RP enthusiasts.

Around the edges of this town would be many plots of land for the player housing. Different sections would have different styles, so you might have an undead neighborhood and a human neighborhood, etc. These homes would be purely aesthetic with no game function except that your new hearthstone (like garrison hearthstones) would bring you here. Plenty of people in this thread have come up with better ideas than mine on how to handle the design of the actual houses and yards.

Different characters in your warband could have different homes in this town/city so you could have different themes for each.

Personal preference, I’d like to see 50-75% of the cosmetic choices for individual homes readily available to anyone and everyone, a smaller percentage crafted, and an even smaller percentage found through achievements, so that every facet of the game has cosmetic rewards, but more insular players are not punished for their playstyle.

Cosmetics for the shared area, though, I think should be based almost exclusively on group activities. I would be thrilled to see rewards from timewalking dungeons that allow the guild to change the appearance of their core buildings to something fitting the theme of the dungeon or raid they completed as a team.

Obviously, this is much more “guild housing” focused than “player housing”, but I think that if we want to keep the “Multiplayer” in our MMO, we need the social aspect of the game to stay front and center.

I’d really like the ability to pick the setting and location. A variety of plots to put our home in a number of locations.

I’d also like all of the many, many, many (so many) draenei house assets that got added in WoD make a return. I want a draenei cottage.

I was so happy when I finally got my house in FFXIV and stopped being a murder hobo.

Not gonna happen.

There is no way to do this functionally in WoW.

Better yet, just let me replicate the largest libraries in WoW…
