Dragon Ball Z will always hold a special place in my heart.
UhâŚProbably My Neighbor Totoro.
and Sailor Moon
I know recommending it is overdone but man. Jojo is FUN. I remember thinking âEh part 5 canât be THAT good. These characters canât be THAT hypeâ
Oh I was wrong. I was so wrong.
One of my top favs is Devilman. Both the old Ovas, and Crybaby. Havenât bothered with the old Toei series.
Saitama is actually far from a gary stu.
He is broke, lazy, depressed, awkward, etc
All he has going for him is his absurd strength
I recently got on board with Jojo after years of putting it on the side. I was pretty good, but then again, Iâve only watched to the end of Stardust Crusaders as that was as far as I was recommended, after SC I was told âItâs not directly related so your value may varyâ
Oddddd considering theyâre very much connected
Tangentially related if anything. Stardust Crusaders was the end of the Joestar vs Dio story. Diamond is Unbreakable is more a side-story, and Golden Wind is a completely unrelated story with a Dio/Jojo v2 child as the central character, which would make it another side story.
While I watched through to Stardust Crusaders, Iâve been reading the manga for the two more recent arcs.
God I wanna get to animated Steel Ball Run so bad
Still part 4 and 5 are good. 4 is more slice of life with probably the best villain. 5 is just as Etika called it âFlamboyant masculinityâ and I am for ALL of that.
Sorry but One Punch Man is a lot more than the adventures of a Gary Stu. Itâs basically making fun of the tropes, specially in shonen, of characters constantly getting new power ups and defeating things even thought everyone knows they will overcome whatever villain comes their way.
Saitama is a parody of that, the guy doesnât need power ups, he didnât even need special training, heâs just OP for the sake of comedy and commentary on how too much of a good thing is in the end a bad thing.
One is legit a great writer, and One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 proved that heâs a breath of fresh air when it comes to manga narrative.
Ye. Thatâs why I respect it. I havenât watched the whole thing yet ( It takes me FOREVER to watch new things ) but I dig its message and the fights Iâve seen are pretty freaking cool.
If you ever get around watching it, I suggest going into season 2 with an open mind. It recieved a lot of criticism but I honestly think that the antagonist for that season was very interesting and enjoyable to watch.
Does transformers count ?
Neon genesis evangelion when I was like 8 lol. Such proud heritage.
The reason was because a different studio animated it.
As a huge NGE fan I askâŚ
Why would you do that to yourself?
Imo, the animation wasnât bad. I didnât like some stylistic choices but putting that aside, I did see criticism towards the story of season 2. And while the tournament was kind of meh, Garo made up for it in my opinion.
My first exposure to anime was Higurashi 2006, a friend wanted to get me into anime and knew I liked the horror genre. As for what anime scarred me for life? I canât say that there is one, Iâve seen my fair share of shock value content like redo healer.
who knows, canât understand the open mind of an 8 year old back before the modern internet. It was on my brotherâs computer and he watched it so I did too.
I think it was the best decision and had a really good influence on how I look at media.
The question is, did it scar you for the horror aspect, or the dub quality aspect?
I guess I can see it. I watched it when I was 18 and it hit me hard, I canât even imagine what it would be like to watch NGE as an 8 year old, though.
I have always read at an extremely high level and probably just didnât understand a ton of it. Thatâs part of my pedigree too, subs > dubs straight from the beginning. I always found dubs to be extremely cringe.
I even watched end of evangelion. Iâve watched eva like 8 times in my life though so Iâve had a lot of processing. It was still weird and too intense to experience those emotions when I was so young, especially Asukaâs scenes in EoE. The music is also extremely powerful in that series. I feel very lucky to know what it feels like to watch that kind of media from that age though. Obviously it was bad for me back then, but I feel it changed my perception in a really good way forever.
NGE when I was like 10, my dad had a full collection of disks of it lol.
