As a kid my first and favorite anime was Yu-Gi-Oh! (Everyone in my grade was huge into Yu-Gi-Oh! to with the card game, grade before us was big into Pokemon)

Also the anime that scarred me for life (had too much laugh for it) is Ghost Stories (English Dub), please don’t look it up.

Those aren’t anime… hate to break it to ya.
I don’t know the exact first, but the older ones they used to show on tv. Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Digimon, Yu Yu Hakusho, Sailor Moon, DBZ. Stuff like that! At the time I was a kid and didn’t realize what anime was though.

My first exposure to Japanese animation was Star Blazers (adapted from Space Battleship Yamato) and Battle of the Planets (adapted from Science Ninja Team Gatchaman) back in the late '70s.
The first anime movie I really remember seeing and paying attention to was Tenchi Muyo In Love on SciFi
Ronin Warriors was probably the first series I got obsessed with. I remember timing the VHS to record it and watching it when I would get home from school and getting all the action figures.
Perfect Blue scarred me because of how young I was when I saw it
Ranma 1/2 or Helsing. I can’t remember which was first.
Star Blazers or Space Battleship Yamato… Best ever.

Think it was Big O. Not the greatest but it led into other stuff like Cowboy Bebop and Zoids.
